Incredibly simple to setup with spectacular results.

Have one bulb in the ceiling fan, one in a small lamp in the far corner of the room and one in an accent light behind my laptop while on its stand. Setup couldn't be easier... insert the bulbs and turn them all on, plug the signal unit into one of the open ethernet ports on your base station (cable included) and connect the AC adapter. Start the app up and press the button on the signal unit and you're all set. Bulbs at their highest setting are brighter than expected though still not as bright as conventional bulbs but that's to be expected. Really phenomenal option for people who work from home and want total control over the brightness of multiple lights to optimize their screen work. Price may seem steep but it is what it is. Though once you install it and use it you'll think it's worth every penny. …

One day later....Extremely I read an article and decided to purchase this product over a much more expensive home lighting system. One day later....Extremely Happy! Product was very easy and simple to set up...in Fact my six year old did all of the connections and i downloaded the app. The light output is as good or better than your normal light bulb and the color combination you see and get its just makes it that much better. I installed one on my sons room and tried the gradually dimming feature and it worked on the first try. If you are considering spending over 4K on a full house lighting system....make sure you spend the $199 starter kit and you will be Happy you did. I will be ordering more bulbs as they become available to change the entire house to this new system. …

So Far So Good
Very cool product. App could use some tweaking to make it a bit easier to use as there was a bit of a learning curve. All in all Very cool product. App could use some tweaking to make it a bit easier to use as there was a bit of a learning curve. All in all, set up was very easy (less than 3 minutes). I have the starter pack and 2 additional bulbs. I'll be ordering 10 more today to set up more rooms. Groups are a bit of a pain to set up as you have to create a scene and from what I can figure out so far can only set up colors in a group from an existing photo. Colors can be adjusted on an individual light but won't save unless in a scene. Could be I need to spend even more time on the app. Fade function didn't work in my first few trials but again I expect this to be me just taking more time to figure everything out. I also haven't been able to get a group programmed on my iphone to appear on the home ipad for others to use. Not sure if there's a way but will be a pain to set them up on multiple devices. Only a 2 year warranty even though they say the light is good for 15. Having stated all the learning issues, it's a very cool product, easy to get started and in my opinion completely replaces a crestron type lighting system. It is expensive but much less than a home lighting system would be. I will continue to hopefully replace every bulb in the house as various sizes are hopefully released. …

Great lamps, unusable software

However, the big issue is the software, which is just abysmal. Setting an alarm for e.g. "turn on 17:00 and turn off 23:00" sometimes works, sometimes not. If you actually turn the lamps on before 17:00, the software then turns them OFF at 17:00 instead of just letting them stay on. Another example of the quality of the software is that daylight savings time is not incorporated at all. You just have to erase all alarms twice a year and then create new ones. I could go on, but I won't. Stay clear until they release completely rewritten software for the lamps, as they are currently just super expensive LED bulbs that sometimes (quite randomly) do cool things. …

A product to love - in theory

Out of 9 bulbs in my home, a total of three have now died already (within 6 months). While they were eventually replaced (which took forever as you had to mail them to Philips), the app does not allow to delete any bulbs, so I have three defective (non-existing) light bulbs in all my scenes. Only way to fix is a complete reset, which completely deletes all you scenes and all shares. This is unacceptable for such expensive product.
Philips really has great ideas for products, but is extremely bad in making reliable, well manufactured, enduring objects. Its a 60 bucks bulb that comes with an incredibly bad app and even worse quality. …

Great! After Initial Reservations, Love it!
The lack of detailed instructions led me to give this product a mixed review. Let me state that it is fabulous and my working wit The lack of detailed instructions led me to give this product a mixed review. Let me state that it is fabulous and my working within the Meet Hue website and using my own photos, I was able to have all lights including the two extra bulbs plus the three in the starter pack work. As it comes, the starter pack ONLY works with the pre-loaded scenes with the 3 bulbs included and the extra two bulbs could only be adjusted by using the slider controls manually in the app. I noticed that the Meet Hue website that user scenes in the website worked with all my bulbs. I selected photos from my iPhone albums and dragged my lights onto them in the app and saved/named each one and perfect! All 5 Hue lamps work as expected! Love it! …

I've used a Hue bulb in my bedroom ceiling fan and it's worked well. The only issue I have is sometimes switching the fan's speed turns the bulb off, but simply resetting the bulb switch (usually via a toggle) works fine. I rarely change the fan speed anyway so its usually not a problem. …
