HUE is a WINNER!!!

Took 10 minutes to set up. I had to convince the "geniuses" at the local Apple Store that HUE really existed. They went online, discovered it did, went in the back room, found and sold them. No one had asked about them before I walked in.
They assured me I could return them in 14 days, so I decided to try them. Hue and the free App is amazing! Download your own pic. Touch it to turn on the lights. Group anyway you want, dim independently, color control independently.
If you turn off the wall switch, the bulbs forget where they were. Turn the switch back on, and the bulbs turn on to default approx. 3000 degrees K. Then touch any mood you set up on the iPhone, and it instantly changes colors & intensity.
We have a 50's Diner designed kitchen with black / white tile, red wall tile, red neon accents, so touch the 50's Diner photo, and 4 bulbs come on, 2 red and 2 whatever temp white you choose. Halloween? Orange no problem. Christmas? Red and Green.
1-A must if you are really into home automation, home theatre, etc.
2-Extremely high quality feel bulb design
3-Bulbs run barely warm and draw 8.5 watts max
4-Super easy to use
5-No need to use your iPhone. Set the onboard timer function for on / off. Gives that lived in look, and no need to turn on / off every time.
6-Full dimming capability
7-Default to Warm White (looks like 3000 degree K) if power fails and comes back on
8-No high frequency sound, no flicker, no RFI interference
9-Instantly group able and groups can be changed instantly
10-Philips is a leader in LED technology. I have over 100 Philips LED bulbs in service for over a year, with no failures. yet, Lights of America and other off brands have failed 100% in a year! The electronics fail, not the LED's themselves in the off brands.
11-Touch a pic of the room to turn the lights on.
12-Set a different background pic for every page of moods.
13-Set a page up for every room. This groups the bulbs to a scene in that room by choosing the specific page on the iPhone.
2-Only medium Base available today. I need Candelabra base and need R30
3-600 Lumen output is a little low but is OK
These bulbs are NOT going back!!! Wife loves them, as do I. 'Nuff said!!! …

I recommend using all th Controlling lights from iPad and iPhone is neat. Colors work well. There is a slight learning curve..
I recommend using all the lights on setup, this may have been problem for me since I screwed in only one bulb..
Also I noted when you edit bulb name light flashes while in edit mode.
This would have been a definite 5 star but unfortunately tech support is nonexistent except for email. …

Sing the colors of the rainbow

But I will be returning the kit to I just bought the starter kit today and had no problems getting the lights to connect and work. But I will be returning the kit tomorrow when the store opens because the lights sing or hum or buzz loudly when at full brightness. They especially sing loudly when they are a bright white but still buzz when displaying colors. I really liked the idea and want to keep them but I don't care if they are free, I can't stand the buzzing.
Maybe in the future I will try them again but not now. One other problem I have is I don't like always having to use my phone or tablet to turn on & dim my lights. For the most part I would like to just flip the wall switch and used the dimmer on the wall switch. But the lights do not respond to the dimmer but they do turn off and on with the switch. I did like the Syfy synced lights and programming. Oh well. I just saved $200 …

Save your money. Great idea but bad product with bad support

Then, I randomly lose a connection to a bulb, which is a huge hassle to resurrect. Resurrection is only sometimes successful after hours of effort. I'm a tech enthusiast and an Electrical Engineer with all the latest gizmos and gadgets, so I love experimenting with technology. Until I've decided that it is a fail. And THIS is a fail. Tech and product support with Philips is virtually nonexistent. I feel foolish for having spent so much money on this stuff - but I'm like a kid in a candy store with no spending limit.....I should have listened to my very level headed wife and not bothered with the Philips products.
They are all going into the recycle bin and I'm going to just stick with simple manual light switches from now on. I'm lucky I can affford to throw out $1500 worth of Philips Hue lights without any stress! Lesson learned! My advice: don't bother and save your money. …

I have nothing but good to say
I own 28 of these lights so what I am going to review comes from experience. I have them in my home to create wonderful lighting I own 28 of these lights so what I am going to review comes from experience. I have them in my home to create wonderful lighting that is soft not harsh. I can choose warm for the evening and colors of red and green for Christmas. I have actually (successfully) put them in the eves of my home and outdoor home lights with no problems even at sub zero temps. I push a button and I can change the front of the home to Halloween, Christmas, St. Patricks, or Fourth of July. I have the home wake up when I come home with geo sensing and turn off when I leave. I have had zero problems but I will say that I have very high end tech stuff. I use the Apple Airport Time Capsule and that branches off to a business class 24 port high capacity router that feeds the home to each room of the home. It just works and is really fun. If you are having trouble your success is only as good as your weakest link. Have a good up to date router and place the Hue hub central to location of the lights. …
