Fantastic Guitar and iOS Device
I ordered this a couple days ago and received it today. I am not a huge fan of squire guitars, but when I saw what this could do I thought "what the heck its only $200". I can honestly tell you that this is easily one of the best builds that squire has done, and the interface with iOS and computers is incredible. I am actually using it with an iPad mini which requires the 30 pin to lightening adapter, but it works perfect. Anyways, I can't recommend this enough. This is a great guitar, and certainly more then worth the asking price. …

Finally, Nothing Comes Between My Strat and My MacBook Air
Ordered the Squier USB Strat from the Apple Store on Wednesday November 13, got it on Friday November 15, and it's a dream come tr ue. Finally, I don't need an external sound interface; just plug the Squier Strat using one of its two included cables and it just works on GarageBand.
Fit and finish are incredible; it must be some kind of loss leader. It's an HSS (2 single coil pickups and 1 humbucker) so it gets a big variety of tones, all of which sound excellent. Action was nice & Fender low but not buzzy.
For me the only problem is the plug & play aspect of it. Half the time I fire up GarageBand the guitar has a buzzy sound, sort of like when your headphones aren't plugged in properly, but it's clearly a digital artifact. I've had to restart GarageBand or even the Mac itself to get rid of this problem. Don't care--it's such a gorgeous instrument and such a freeing thing to be able to just plug straight into my Air. bad placement of outputs
just got it and, so far plays good, looks good. my concern is with the placement of the headphone and USB output. it's only a matt er of time before the strap wraps around the cord or, more likely, it gets put down on the end or bumped and the small plugs and/or inputs are damaged. it might be possible to baby the guitar in you own studio, but on a gig, and/or with others around, stuff happens.
since this is what makes this model special, I'm surprised the designers allowed this set-up. the 2 outputs should probably be next to the analog output.
to those at apple... since I'm apparently the first to point out this obvious flaw, when you get around to fixing this, I'd appreciate a free upgrade. …- Written by Eric P from Englewood

Excellent, but not without issues
In general it's been great fun. It's my first electric and I'm really enjoying playing it.
The USB connection really is terrible. My usage has been in my bedroom, no gigs, no waving it around, but mainly sitting and playing Sunshine of Your Love and practicing blues scales. The USB port is at the bottom of the body, right next to the strap button. I rarely use the strap, but it pushes against the connector. That combined with putting the guitar down in its stand (a good inch off the floor) without unplugging it means every time I look at it it's bent. I must have put it in its stand without unplugging it maybe twice, and today, 5 months into ownership, the USB cable bent and snapped while I was playing. I was sitting on a chair, NOT rocking out.
I did find that I had to have all the volume controls up pretty much at their peak in order to register on the GarageBand amp, though this might have been to do with the connection being dodgy.
It's also a bit of a pain having to change the audio driver and turn on monitoring in Garageband every time I plug in, rather than having some kind of default.
Overall, great fun, but it's now broken until I get a new cable, thanks to a design flaw. …- Written by Tom O from London

A lot of fun
As a frustrated guy who has been "learning to play the guitar" for the last 20 years, this is the most fun I have ever had playing ! Plug it in your Mac, fire up Garage Band's artist lessons, learn the song then rock out. It's that easy. Before you know it, you're playing power chords with Sting on Message in a Bottle (and sounding good doing it).
The guitar itself is well crafted, sounds good and stays in tune. It's literally plug and play with the Mac (make sure you turn monitoring ON, though).
The wealth of amplifiers/pedals in Garage Band also makes it a lot of fun. The possibilities are endless.
I strongly recommend this guitar to anyone who has an interest in learning to play. The quality/price ratio makes this a no-brainer. …- Written by Pascal B from Markham

USB Mini-B – 30-pin iOS cable not available on the market?
Product is great... but there is an issue with replacement for USB Mini-B – 30-pin iOS cable... due to bad position of connector i t's easy to damage the cable and so far I as not able to find this kind of cable on the market... any workaround combination didn't work …

I have used both and I can tell you there's no delay whatsoever to ruin the experience. They're equa lly good.
I guess there is no delay because the guitar uses digital signals to send and receive the sound = USB out > iPad > USB in > Guitar headphone. The digital signal on cable is so fast there is at least virtually no delay.
The only delays I have experienced so far were using bluetooth speakers and Apple TV on wireless.
Using the headphone plug of the guitar offers the advantage of having less cables crossing over and having to stand right on top of your iPad or Mac. It's much more comfortable to move around and tidier. …- Answered by Paulo N

Hi James,
The guitar signal is sent to the iOS device or Mac. The audio is then being processed b y an app like GarageBand, AmpliTube etc. and send back to the guitar via the same cable that connects the guitar to the device. The audio then goes into the headphone amp and comes out through the 1/8" output. The headphone amp volume can be controlled by one of the control pots on the guitar itself. This means that the headphones can plug right into the guitar to monitor your backing tracks and processed guitar tone. Only one cable goes to the iOS device or Mac.

I needed to adjust the intonation, but not by much. There's some fret-buzz on the lower two strings, heaviest in the lower E. Haven't set that up yet. Pickups were set low and I brought the bridge one up a bit, which worked for me.
It's very nice to play. The action is about right and I love the neck, which is easy to get around for someone with medium-to-small hands.
With the exception of the flimsy USB jacks and socket, it's a very likeable guitar. …- Answered by Paul M
