Beats Mixr On-Ear Headphones

These lack the noise canceling features of the studio and pro models but I didn't notice a marked difference when testing all the models (in terms of noise elimination).

The design and materials are very sturdy. Quite frankly, they're just a gorgeous looking pair of headphones.

The fit is snug (keep in mind these are a DJ model headphone), so they may not be for everyone. The studio and solo headphones series are definitely more comfortable i.e. you put them on and could likely wear them for several hours without adjustment. These you will be moving around from time to time. The snugness makes them a little less comfortable but it also provides a solid seal over your ear, to eliminate outside chatter without the need for battery powered noise cancelation. For me, this was the biggest plus. I travel a lot and the thought of not being able to use my headphones because I forgot my batteries or they wore out was just not an option. However, the more snug fit will likely lead to people getting a little warmer, because they do tend to hold heat in much better. Just something to keep in mind.

A big plus on the DJ model is the pivoting ear cups. It allows you to rotate one cup back and off your ear while continuing to listen in the other, all while maintaing the fit on your head. It's hard to explain but if you try them, you'll know what I mean. These also have the ability to plug the interchangeable chords in to either side of the headset, which is a nice convenience. It is especially helpful if you use them in different settings (like having my macbook headphone jack on the left but preferring the controls on the right when I listen on my iphone. It's a small thing but it matters.

Sound is really crisp on the Mixr model. To my amateur ear they were a lot clearer sounding than the studio and solo models. Mids and highs were very good but they do lack the more powerful bass (if that is your thing).

One noticeable difference on these vs the studio was sound leak was certainly mitigated. If you turn them up a little louder, you're not going to have people around you giving out the death stare. The studios unfortunately seemed to leak quite a bit more sound than you would expect from a $300 pair of headphones.

Overall, if you're in the market for a higher end pair of headphones these are very good. I wanted to give them 4.5 stars but that's not an option, so I leaned more towards 5 than 4 because of everything I explained.

I think they're moderately overpriced at $250 but you do really get what you pay for. When you compare the sound quality and material construction, at similar price points, the vastly outweigh the competition. This is the first pair of Beats I have owned, so I'm not a fan boy. The performance of these, in comparison to others that I tried swayed me more than the name ever could. The right earphone stopped working about 4 months after purchase. I didn't use my headphones much and I take good care of them. Darn!!...and I really liked these headphones too! This makes this my second pair of beats heaphones that broke on me after about 4 months of usage, my first pair was the Beats Tour. I ignored many complaints about Beats durability thinking that most people don't take care of there equipment..but low and behold, it happened to me.....twice.

Conclusion, good sound, style and a snug fit. In my case, that doesn't mean much if they break easily. I'm going back to using Shure headphones. …More
