Studio quality for serious sound
Pro specifications for full, clear guitar tones: up to 24-bit/48kHz audio quality throughout, and 110dB dynamic range on the guitar input. Unlike other devices that connect to the analog headphone jack of an iPhone or iPad, Mobile In attaches via the 30-pin connector for a high-quality, all-digital signal path. Clean tones sparkle and sing, effect-laden tones are rich and colorful, and high-gain tones are powerful and feedback-free.
Mobile In is also the high-quality way to record stereo audio sources to your iPhone or iPad. Simply connect a keyboard, mixer, CD player or even another iPhone to the stereo line input.
32 amps, 16 cabs, and more
Leading guitarists depend on POD for amazing tone in studios and on stages around the world. The Mobile POD app brings these legendary guitar tones—the same ones found the award-winning Line 6 POD 2.0 and Pocket POD products—to your iPhone and iPad.
32 amps, 16 stompbox and rack effects, and 16 speaker cabinets give you immediate access to an impressive array of sounds. The intuitive graphical display makes it easy to tweak and save your custom tones. You can also take advantage of over 10,000 Mobile POD presets designed by artists, Line 6 and other players, right on your iPhone or iPad. To top it all off, Mobile POD also lets you play along with songs in your iTunes library.**
The ultimate jam-along experience
Designed to work together, Mobile In and the award-winning free Jammit app let you immerse yourself in your favorite artists' original recordings—and play along with incredibly authentic guitar tones. Just plug your guitar into the Mobile In interface to access legendary POD tones—perfectly matched to a variety of Jammit songs.

Lag/battery drain and finicky controls
I bought the Line 6 Mobile In with the hopes it would be a good on stage utility. However after opening the product and plugging i t in, I found that it would be next to impossible to use on stage.
-Lag. This is a few milliseconds of delay from when you hit the guitar strings to when the sound comes out of your speakers. Timing is everything on stage and this would throw everyone off.
-Battery Drain. There is no external power source for this gadget and it seems to quickly drain the battery, this would be a serious problem if you were attempting to play long sets on stage.
-Sticky online presets. Finding presets isn't too hard, but you have to wait almost every time you touch the screen to scroll up or down which makes it very difficult to navigate online presets.
-Only one cable. It comes with only one cable for your guitar to your iPad/iPhone. The first question I asked apple was, "Do you sell 1/4 in to 1/8 in cables?" I shouldn't have to go to radio shack and spend another 10 dollars.
-Flimsy connector. The connector is made out of cheap plastic that doesn't seat very well. This could turn out to be a big problem.
-Great selection of amps/effects. I gave it two stars because it has such a wide selection of options and it does sound really good when you get over the lag part of it.
Overall, this is a great pocket/practice amp, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything other than practice and garage band. By a POD if you want live sound. …- Written by Richard D C from Hanford

Awesome Tool
While it would be nice to be able to charge your iPad or iPhone while using the plugin, the choice of amp heads and cabs and effec ts makes this an awesome tool. I have used it for over one month now and have found no lag in the app, the rig is very quiet, unlike other devices that have a very loud hiss, and the factory and user sounds are awesome. For playing with headphones or plugging it into a home studio, this app/plugin combo is fantastic. …

Line 6 Mobile In goodness!
A great little device for home / practice use - which it is designed for!!
1. Although the item is made out of plastic, the build quality is absolutely fine, I wouldn't want a "higher quality" HEAVY adapter hanging out of the iPad / iPhone connector! This is small and light and seems just fine!
2.Battery drain seems to be a none issue and the iPad 3 - lasted hours and hours off half a charge!
3.Works on all the apps I've tried it on... Mobile pod, GarageBand, Amplitube, Ampkit+... Splendid!!
4. Sounds awesome... Miles better than the audio jack type devices - really, it's night and day by comparison! (I have both!)
5. Did I mention it sounds awesome!? :)
6. "Guaranteed" to put a smile on your face! :oP (IMHO) …- Written by Jonathan F from Chorley

Not for bass
There are no amps or bass effects so this input is of limited use for bass guitar (out of the box anyway). Other apps can be bough t to work with it, I'm sure but it's disappointing that line 6 does not include at least a couple of amps & effects …

Answer
You can't, but I used the mobile in last night for hours and hours off half a charge on my iPad 3... It's a none issue for home / practise use - although I don't know how the phone lasts out since I have an iPhone 5.
This is a brilliant product in my opinion and now works with amplitube as well as ampkit and GarageBand (of course it works with mobile pod as well!) …- Answered by Jonathan F
