Product Information

  • Overview

NeatDesk for Mac is the high-speed desktop scanner and digital filing system that will quickly turn all the paper on your desk into organized, digital files. More than just a great scanner, NeatDesk also includes patented NeatWorks for Mac software to identify and extract key information from your paper files, then automatically organize it in the easy-to-use database.

    Lightning-fast scanning

The award-winning ADF (automatic document feeder) scanner provides a central "inbox" for all the paper that normally clutters your workspace. Its unique paper input tray allows you to insert up to 10 receipts, 10 business cards and 10 full-size documents, and scan them all in a single batch. Or remove the tray to scan up to 50 letter-size pages at once. You can even perform double-sided scanning in a single pass.

    NeatWorks for Mac software

Once your paper is digitized, NeatWorks for Mac uses "Intelligent Text Recognition" technology to extract key data from your documents and populate key fields automatically in this robust digital filing system.

    Capture and retrieve details quickly

NeatWorks software uses OCR and patented parsing technology to identify and save key information. On receipts, it looks for the date, vendor, amount and sales tax. On business cards, it collects all of the contact information. And on documents, it saves the printed text in searchable PDF format.

The software is way behind the windows version, one side of the duplex scanning is 50% quality of the other, post-processing of the image is not acceptable (grainy, no anti-aliasing), and the software is deadly slow.

The scanner had to be replaced under warranty in less than 6 months because it inexplicably snatched up to 25 pages of paper at a time when scanning. The software constantly crashes for no explicable reason. This same thing has happened though several revisions of their software. Their only offered solution is to create new libraries and start over! This is of course entirely unacceptable because they never update the software to correct the problem.

Product support never responds appropriately and never explains why the software crashes. Moreover, the company has now discontinued phone support completely and the only way to communicate with them is through e-mail that is also terrible as far as quick, responsive problem resolution.

Do not buy this scanner or software if you expect good customer service, reliability or functionality.

The real problem is the software. The desktop software is buggy and always has been in the four years I have used it. I hung on hoping for a solution and hoped that the cloud service would replace the desktop. Unfortunately it's worse and shows no evidence of improving. The sync crashes the software my cloud items are always "processing" and have to be removed. My advice after years of trying is do not be sucked in by the advertising; avoid this product at all costs.

I have had my problems but they have always been resolved with some pain (especially with the technical support available). Recently, the software crashed a couple of times at launch and again after scanning a few documents. After the second crash, I could not access my data. The first time I called the tech rep seemed to know nothing. Said he would send an email the next day but that didn't happen. I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone that day (the first thing I had to do was PAY for support). The next day I spent about 45 minutes on the phone mainly waiting for a rep. At least this time the rep knew what to do and the fix took a few minutes. After the fix, the software crashed again and I could not access my data. This time, however, I knew what to do. Now, I upgraded to Mac's Yosemite and the software won't launch. After paying for support, I have been on the phone for 45 minutes and no one has yet answered my call! I WILL SWITCH TO ANOTHER VENDOR AS SOON AS I CAN!!!
