What’s the difference in storage sizes?

iPhone comes in three storage sizes: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The term “GB” stands for gigabytes. The more gigabytes you have, the more content you can store on your iPhone — apps, games, photos, HD videos, music, movies, and more. If, for example, you have a large music or photo library or you frequently download HD movies, it’s a good idea to consider an iPhone with a larger storage capacity. If you have a relatively small music or photo library or rarely make or buy movies, an iPhone with a smaller capacity may be better for you. Of course, over time you will accumulate many things on your iPhone, so you’ll want to think about how your storage needs may evolve.

Which U.S. mobile phone carriers provide iPhone service?

AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless are the wireless carriers for iPhone in the United States. The Apple Online Store and the Apple Retail Store sell iPhone models for use on these networks. You can also purchase iPhone from an authorized Apple reseller.

Are there differences between an iPhone for AT&T or T-Mobile and an iPhone for Sprint or Verizon Wireless?

iPhone offers the same innovative features regardless of the wireless carrier you choose: FaceTime video calling, Retina display, an amazing camera for photos and HD video, the App Store, iCloud, and more.

If you choose AT&T or T-Mobile as your wireless carrier, your iPhone 5 will use GSM cellular technology for voice services and either GSM or LTE cellular technology for data services. Your iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 will use GSM cellular technology for voice and data services. All three devices can roam internationally on over 200 GSM carriers around the world.

If you choose Sprint or Verizon Wireless as your wireless carrier, your iPhone 5 will use CDMA cellular technology for voice services and either CDMA or LTE cellular technology for data services. Your iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 will use CDMA cellular technology for voice and data services. An iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S activated on Sprint or Verizon Wireless also has the ability to roam internationally on GSM networks using the provided SIM.

Do accessories made for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S also work with iPhone 5?

iPhone 5 uses the Lightning connector, which is different from the 30-pin connector on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. You can purchase a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter for use with Made for iPhone accessories except those requiring video output. Visit the iPhone Accessories section of the Apple Online Store to find out more about accessory compatibility with different iPhone models.
If I lose my iPhone, can I buy a replacement iPhone?

Yes. You can purchase a replacement iPhone from the Apple Online Store, an Apple Retail Store, or your carrier’s store. Your new iPhone price will depend on your carrier and contract situation.

When I buy from the Apple Online Store, does my iPhone come ready to use?

Yes, if you have selected an iPhone for use on AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. When your iPhone arrives, all you have to do is turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up. If you have selected an iPhone for T-Mobile, it will come with the appropriate micro-SIM or nano-SIM, but you will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone. If you have selected an unlocked GSM phone, you will need to obtain a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5 from the supported GSM carrier of your choice and activate it in order to use your iPhone.
If I already have a contract, how can I find out the price I’ll pay for a new iPhone?

The fastest way to find out about the price you’ll pay for a new iPhone is to use your carrier’s eligibility checker, which we offer for AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. The eligibility checker will check with your carrier’s systems and show you the price you qualify for. For T-Mobile contracts, you can check your eligibility by signing in to your account at My T-Mobile.
Can I transfer my current phone number?

Yes. When you purchase your iPhone for use on AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon, you’ll be instructed on how to transfer your current number. You can keep using your existing phone until your new iPhone arrives and you set it up. Then you can start making calls on the new iPhone using your current phone number. If you are switching carriers, termination fees may apply. Please contact your current carrier for details.

If you purchase an iPhone for T-Mobile from the Apple Online Store, you can transfer your current phone number after you receive your new iPhone by contacting T-Mobile support, visiting a T-Mobile store, or visiting an Apple Retail Store.

Can I use an iPhone when traveling internationally?

iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S are world phones, so you can use them almost anywhere. Whether you are a GSM or CDMA network customer, you can roam internationally on GSM networks around the world. AT&T customers can roam in over 200 countries; T-Mobile customers can roam in over 145 countries. With iPhone 4 for AT&T, you can also roam on other GSM networks around the world. iPhone 4 for Sprint works in approximately 40 countries and iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless works in approximately 45 countries that use CDMA technology. Availability of LTE data on iPhone 5 varies in some countries and depends on carrier support for certain LTE radio frequencies.
