The TomTom car kit works great for me. I like not having to connect a power adapter and audio jack before I put it into the holder. With the TomTom car kit it is easy to put in the iPhone and take out with one hand.
A lot of people on the internet have been complaining that the price is too high for a holder. In my opinion, this product is a convergence of many different products into one. A great holder, Bluetooth speaker phone, charger, car stereo audio adapter and enhanced GPS chip. I have done away with my Bluetooth speaker phone a different holder and audio adapter and the ease and convenience works well for me.
I have been using the Navigon Mobile Navigator and its accuracy has seemed to improve with the Car Kit's GPS chip. …More168 of 178 people found this useful

While I won't argue that this is a bit expensive for a holder ... it's much more than that. In addition to holding my iPhone at eye level, the GPS, built into the holder made my TomTom app coordinate in a matter of a couple seconds and stay on the correct road ... no more jumping over to parallel side streets. It's night and day the accuracy the Car Kit adds to the GPS that's built into the iPhone!! In addition, I can now do conference calls in my car without having to use my BT ear Piece. The ear Piece can get very uncomfortable and also runs out of power when I have back to back or long calls.
I did try another windshield mount in the past and the quality that the TomTom Car Kit has far surpasses the others. They felt cheap and were definitely not built to last like this one is!!
If your budget can handle it, I HIGHLY recommend the TomTom Car Kit!! …More70 of 73 people found this useful

After using the kit I am extremely impressed, and many of the complaints of others in review haven't applied to me. First, I agree with what everyone else has said. It is very high quality, speaker sounds great (at first I thought it was coming through my car speakers), gps seems much more accurate than before, and so on.
But also for me, the audio interference is not a problem. I don't hear any interference at all like other people did. Another complaint was that the weight of the cords when it is horizontal are too heavy to keep it that way, but it stays in place great for me.
I was especially impressed with the hands-free calling feature. We called several people and they said they could hear us perfectly. My wife and I went through normal driving, and talked for more than 10 minutes with various people. It is so useful for us now!

Pros:
- GPS signal strength improved noticeably
- Voice announcements now are loud enough
- Easy to install and adjust
- Contrary to some reviews iPhone case should not necessarily be removed (I use plastic Case-mate for back and edges protection and it fits perfectly)
- Works with other nav apps (i.e. Navigon)
- Adds GPS to your olden iPhone 2G

Forget the gps and hands free calling and it's almost still worth it. Sure a little pricey, but this is the best iPhone holder I've ever used for my car! The iphone is mounted and working in seconds and just as easily removed. It charges and connects your iphone through an audio cable (this may be it's short coming in the end... it should be made to connect to digital ipod and iphone car kits for best sound... still if you're already using a aux line in or tape adapter to get music into your car...bam it's connected) Just those two things are almost worth the price. Add enhanced GPS that works with almost all the navigation programs and hands free calling and you have a fantastic iPhone mount for your car!
I've used a lot including the way cool looking PED holder which turned out to be the worst one I ever used! The thing comes with really weak suction cup system that falls off your window all the time.
Sure there are others out there, and if you want to mess around with cables every time you put your iphone into one. Go for it. Not me.

No, you don't need the TomTom app to use the dock.
There is a line out jack that will allow you to use a cable to connect to your stereo or a tape adaptor.
