Love all things APPLE.... Except this dock; it's NOT GOOD. Don't bother.

    • Written by from Marlborough

I immediately purchased one of these the night I bought my IPad3. I thought the idea was great. Tried to use it for a week and returned it last night.

Even the people at the Apple store could not believe how poorly it works, particularly the sound control with the speaker jack. They tested it on the spot with speakers. Sure enough, they saw what I was talking about.

    1) The angle it holds your IPad at is not good, not good at all.

    2) If you use a cover for your IPad, (who doesn't), plan on removing it every single time you want to dock it. A royal pain.

    3) If you plug in speakers, you loose ALL control of the volumn. The hard switch is disabled, the electronic control is blacked out, even the control on Pandora is useless. The dock-speaker jack appropriates your entire sound control to a very high volumn and you can't do a thing about it.

Once when the phone rang, I could not turn the volumn down, Then again when there was a knock at the door, I could not immediately adjust the volumn. This is useless.

They were GREAT at the Apple store. Gave me my refund and I bought an extension cord instead for my IPad. I still love all things Apple and the customer service is stil great.

    Charging

It was working fine and attached fine, but all of a sudden, it stopped charging my iPad and I did nothing to it, and didn't touch it.

    Stopped charging after 8 months

    • Written by from New Haven

During the short time that it worked, we were satisfied with it. We purchased it in March 2011 and then one day in November it abruptly stopped charging the iPad. I expected this product to last longer than 8 months even if it did only cost $30.

    Rubbish

    • Written by from Ichikawa-shi

1st one didn't work at all. Went to service centre and was replaced. 2nd one now speakers work but doesn't work with the iPod dock to VGA cable (works if I plug it into the iPad directly).

Complete rubbish - whole point was to stop having to plug in two cables to get external monitor and sound and instead just plug the iPad into the dock.

    Very Poor

    • Written by from Auckland

I gave one star because I couldn't give none. The connector fails its primary task - to connect. A proper connection is not made between ipad and the dock so the ipad doesn't charge consistently, and the AV functionality is intermittent. The ipad is held at a precarious angle, can be knocked easily and the base slides around easily on a table surface. Not what you expect from a Apple product really.

Dock does not charge iPad if you have a protective case

    • Written by from Sydney

Very disappointed that I can not charge or connect my iPad 2 with the dock, if I have the iPad protective case on.

The connecting jack and dock is made so slim, that if you have even a thin protective backing on your iPad (and who doesn't want to buy a cover after spending so much $$$ on the iPad?), it won't connect with your device properly.

The dock needs to allow a little bit of space for the protector covers guys.
I had to perform a few Google searches to find out why, and I even returned my first purchased dock to the store, believing it to be faulty, before I had to work it out myself via feedback online from other disgruntled consumers.

Food for thought on your next model!

    Not very good

    • Written by from Boston

It does what it's supposed to, charges your ipad and even allows you to jack in external speakers.

it is solid built, and bigger than the older one.

    Problem:

it does not come off easily. which is annoying. cus you have to hold your ipad with one hand, and use your other on the dock, and wiggle ur ipad free.

it doesn't fit if u have the smart cover on.

i was told that it is spongy - doesnt scratch the ipad where the ipad sits.. no.. it isn't

    Solid Docking Station

    • Written by from Vancouver

Product does what is says. Clean and simple design.. It is a docking station to charge and display your iPad plus you can connect it to some external computer speakers.

And no it will not work a Smart Case. But not sure why you would need the case if you want to use a docking station since most of the smart cases allow you to prop up the iPad.

But i would recommend viewing the product images on the Apple Store site before purchasing the product.

    Well done! Apple designer!

    • Written by from Singapore

I love the design. In terms of look, it is slick, handsome, and beautiful. It terms of functionality, it serves it's purpose providing perfect steady support to hold my IPAD vertically for either charging or used as picture frame/clock/typing etc. I am not the designer of the dock, not sure if it was intentionally designed as such. But in my opinion, even it can be used with the cover on, I would probably still take the cover off while my IPAD is in the dock. 2 simple reasons: (1) IPAD looked beautiful and elegant enough to be displayed on my desk, living hall, bedroom etc, why would I want to cover it up with something else? 2) While charging, I would like to have as much cooling as possible to prevent over heating up the chip. Why would I want to put an insulation around to risk my IPAD over heated while charging?

I have been looking around for alternatives to the dock, honestly, I couldn't find anything better. Well done Apple designer!

    Tough Alignment

    • Written by from Columbus

While the stand is very convenient once you get the iPad installed, alignment is quite difficult. I have to pick up the base and fiddle with it almost every time I use it. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the iPad or the base, but it pretty disappointing.

    Great Product!!

    • Written by from Wilmington

This is a great dock. It does it's job well. I like the sleek look it gives my iPad sitting on my desk. Everyone is crying because it doesn't work with the case... my question to you is, why the heck didn't you use your eyes and see that it wouldn't work with the case before you bought it? Well worth it, recommened, there is also a lot of cases that support the dock now as well.

    Good Dock

    • Written by from Cheyenne

This is a good dock. I use it a lot typing up school papers with my Apple Wireless Keyboard. The only con that I can see is that the stand isn't as heavy as the keyboard dock, so when I take the iPad off the dock the dock comes up with it. I have no problem with taking the case off my iPad because of one word: HEAT. Heat kills your battery life so Apple is really doing you a favor by making you take the case off. All in all a good dock and does exactly what it is supposed to. Good job, Apple.

    Not worth the trouble

    • Written by from Omaha

$29 is a fair price, but what does it do? Well, if you have a case for you iPad (don't we all, after all we do want to protect our investment, don't we?) the iPad will not fit on the dock with the case. Take it out of the case to dock it? Why bother, it really doesn't do much other than prop it up as a picture frame or charge it if you choose to do so... but again, out of the case.

The MAIN reason i bought it was to play iTunes through my home stereo system.. without even reading the specs, I bought the dock. What a major disappointment to get home and attach the line out cable and find out it doesn't work like the iTouch dock. I thought I would be able to use the small white Apple remote to advance songs, volume control, etc., but nope.

Do I want to get up and manually advance the song using the iPad itself when a lame tune gets into one of my Smart Playlists and I don't feel like listening to it? No way.. but that's the only control you have... your blasted finger on the iPad with your fat fanny out of the Lazy-boy.

I can only blame myself for not reading the specs.. but shoot, I thought Apple developed 'useful' products.

Works fine but not needed - not required

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

If you do not use your iPad as a "frame" for digital pictures, you will likely not use this dock. I bought one for my wife with her iPad - but most folks who own an iPad usually buy a protective cover - this dock is NOT compatible with any cover. And if you have a cover, you will likely charge the iPad with a straight power cord. I would recommend not getting this accessory unless you want to use your iPad solely at home and on your night stand or desk. But it's (iPad) mobility is one of it's strong points - hence a protective cover - hence no need for the Dock.
Again, mine works fine and has a tight fit - no problem there. Just not that practical for the majority of iPad owners in my opinion.

    Amazing

    • Written by from Minneapolis

I've been waiting for this sort of thing for a long time. So what if you can't use a case? That's probably a good thing, since you don't want your iPad hardware burning up inside that extra layer of plastic while it's charging. It's always nice to have your iPad stand up while it's charging. Maybe in the future, you would be able to pull the 30-pin connector and an extend-able cable out of its groove so that you can view your iPad in both portrait and landscape.

For the people saying that its too wobbly, you might want to try using it on your desk and not your bed.
