Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi.

Anybody looking to buy this product, be warned as you will only get approx. 18month lifetime and no way of getting your data back when it fails.

I loved the function, wireless ease of use and simplicity, at least when it worked. Alas, mine died after approximately 18 months of service. Not what I'd consider acceptable for something you'd expect to be heavy-duty since it's advertised as having a "server-grade" hard drive.

I used it as an external drive I had LOTS OF INFO in it and it quit working. i LOST EVERYYHING. If the internal drive crashes there is no way of fixing it …More

I have had my time machine for a few months now and it is amazing. It works exactly as advertised. In fact, my internet connection sped up once I started using it. Way better then my Linksys router and being able to print from any computer in the house without having to buy a wireless printer is a great bonus. I've had my 1 TB since it came out almost 2 years ago. I bought it the first week it came out, I think in March of '08 or something. I back up my 750GB iMac & 250 GB laptop, all wirelessly. I'd definitely buy another, but I've been blessed with no computer problems ever. I did alot of research before buying it, before knowing it was even going to exist, I was looking at Lecie drives (and I have one), every company out there has a device that has failed, and people get really upset, all you can do is hope you stay on the luckyside. I think this is a great device and love that it's all wireless and hidden: if I happen to run into a bad case scenario and some one breaks into my house, they won't find my time capsule, so I'll at least have that! Time Capsule: Easy To Set Up and Forget

I've used several of Apple's wireless network devices. Time Capsule is much like the others, as far as ease of setup and features offered. All offer some sort of security which is easy to set up. All offer super compatibility with your Apple products coupled with fast set up to create a wireless and ethernet home net. So far my Time Capsule has run like a clock and with little interference of maintenance needed. I did have some problems running an attached external hard drive for a short period, but after an upgrade the function improved. I am able to once again have net storage available to my home net. Time capsule is also easy to set up to support Back To Mac and Screen Sharing. I also use Elgato and an attached external SATA raid drive on my MacPro to enhance our experience and offer a wider variety of home entertainment. It also plays nice with our AppleTV and Airport Express Base Station running Airtunes.
Only real annoyance to me is that sometimes when Time Capsule runs Time Machine it sometimes impacts the performance of my Macs. I notice minute freezes or long loading pages and then notice that Time Capsule is running.
Anyway you will not regret buying a Time Capsule. Apple stands behind their products and will work with their customers to repair or replace items. This is a solid network router which also provides seamless back ups. …More9 of 9 people found this useful

If you are using the Time Capsule with a computer that's covered under AppleCare, the Time Capsule is covered. Note that they do NOT have to be on the same receipt. From the AppleCare Protection Plan terms & conditions:
"An AirPort Extreme Card, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, an Apple-branded DVI to ADC display adapter, Apple RAM modules and MacBook Air SuperDrive are also covered under APP if owned by you and used with the Covered Equipment."
Also, from Apple's page advertising the plan:
"An AirPort Extreme Card, AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, MacBook Air SuperDrive, and Apple RAM when used with a Mac covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan"
Note that I (and others) have verified this in practice - I am getting my dead 18-month old Time Capsule replaced under the APP on my MacBook pro. …More- Answered by RG from Portland

The new 1TB and 2TB Time Capsules might have a different brand of hard drive or if not, they might have a better more reliable hard drive. The new Time Capsules were released April of 2009; so no one can say that" My 2TB Time Capsule died after 18 months!" I do not know if Apple has changed the hard drive or not; I would think they would try to do something about the two star rating for this product! …More

So can this replace my wireless modem to allow my Internet and printers to be used on a wireless home network? I'm on a 24" iMac.

It will replace the wireless part, but you will still need a modem for your cable or DSL. Many DSL modems have it's own router built in, this moves your Apple router one step away from the actual internet. This disables certain features that require a direct connection to the internet such as Back to my Mac.
If you do have two routers you will get a Double NAT error in Airport Utility and a flashing amber light on the Apple router. If your internet provider can't help you turn off the router in your modem they may be able to replace the router/modem they sent you with just a modem. I had to explain what I was trying to do to get them to replace it. If they can't replace it and you want to, or have to, stay with this provider you can set the Apple product to Bridge Mode where you're passed through directly to your ISP's router so services like iChat can connect to the destination directly. …More- Answered by RS from Alameda
