Overview

With the iPad Camera Connection Kit, it's incredibly easy to download photos and videos from your digital camera to your iPad so you can view them on the gorgeous iPad display and share them with family and friends.

The kit includes two connectors, each with a different interface:

  • The Camera Connector features a USB interface. Just plug it into the dock connector port on your iPad, then attach your digital camera or iPhone using a USB cable (not included). iPhone 3G is not supported.
  • Use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from your camera's SD card. Connect it to your iPad, then insert your digital camera's SD card into the slot.

After you make the connection, your iPad automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose which photos and videos to import, then organizes them into albums. When you sync iPad to your PC or Mac, the photos and videos on your iPad are added to your computer's photo library.

iPad and the Camera Connection Kit support standard photo formats, including JPEG and RAW, along with SD and HD video formats, including H.264 and MPEG-4.

The USB will work with many things, not just a camera!

    • Written by from COEUR D' ALENE

Things that I found out that you can plug in to the USB connection are USB headphones and USB headsets, USB keyboards and probably more things. If you buy the package, it comes with two different products, one for a USB connection, and another for an SD card. Also, you can plug any iPhone to the USB port and get your photos off of the iPhone so you can view them on your iPad! This is a very nice product and nothing I would change. If you email the photos with the Mail app on the iPad, they are in 2048x1536 resolution rather than the iPhone's 800x600 emailed resolution. One last thing, once you connect to your Mac, iPhoto brings in full resolution images with EXIF information intact. Great job Apple! The iPad now has a USB port! More

    great!

The first connector (30 pin of course) features a USB port allowing you to connect up either your digital camera or iPhone direct to the iPad. When connected an application automatically loads up displaying thumbs of images that are available on the camera or iPhone to download. You can then select what you want to copy over. Images are then synced with your PC or Mac is required.

The next connector is almost the same but instead of connecting the camera direct to the iPad it features an SD card slot allowing images to be read directly from the memory card containing pictures. The same app (Photos) is opened up and the same interface.

    Useful Little Thing

    • Written by from Albuquerque

This is a wonderful little addition to my iPad accessory collection.

Picked it up at my local Apple store.

I am so happy now as I can very easily transfer photos from my digital camera directly or by putting the SD memory card into the slot. This is VERY handy when you travel.

Thanks Apple for another great product for our magical iPads !

    Don't waste your money

Overpriced and underperforming. Direct camera connection won't work with any of my cameras. Apparently it draws too much power. Obviously I should have heeded the reviews and not bought this product as majority of purchasers experiencing similar problems. More obviously the folks at Apple should read the reviews and correct the problem. I didn't return it, just threw it out. Will not buy anything from Apple in the future More

I can finally upload 10 years worth of photos!

    • Written by from Niantic

I love this gadget. I went digital about 12 years ago and have a number of full SD cards (they're also on a back up drive). I can finally share photos with ease on Facebook, upload them quickly from my camera while on vacation, along with anyone else's photos. No more lugging a laptop around on vacation. Yeah Apple! More

    Why not include the iPhone

    • Written by from Pioneer

This little device is great to travel with. We use it all the time with our iPads. I really don't understand why Apple doesn't make it iPhone compatible. I have wished many times that I could import directly to my iPhone when I don't have my iPad. More
