    Analog Video versus Digital Video

    • Written by from Centreville

I bought this for my 2009 iMac 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo after replacing a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adaptor by Moshi. It works flawlessly connecting to my 2nd monitor.

What I failed to realize is that Apple does not make a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI for a reason. Older iMacs that use Mini DisplayPort are pushing out Analog Video. New macs have HDMI ports for pushing out Digital Video. Converting Analog video up to Digital video is an unnatural act and using Moshis Mini Display Port to HDMI was causing all sorts of issues to my system. Although the image was crystal clear on my 2nd monitor using Moshi HDMI adaptor, the process was compromising my iMac. All issues are solved now using This Mini Display Port to VGA Adaptor.

Do yourself a favor if you have older iMacs without HDMI ports. Get the proper adaptor, Mini Display Port to VGA.

Works for Older MBP, Not for Newer Models (MacBookPro9,1)

    • Written by from Cupertino

Bought this item. Works wonderful on a MBP 13".

Displays wonderfully for my MBP 15" (MacBookPro9,1). Unfortunately, WiFi does not. There are a few threads you'll find on the Internet (apple forums, too) that conclude the adaptor is causing interference w/ WiFi.

Essentially the moment I plug it in, WiFi starts acting real janky. Connection is intermittent - cutting in and out.

I tried using a VGA adaptor (Apple branded, purchased via Apple Store) and no issue w/ WiFi whatsoever. But it happens time and time again w/ only MBP9,1 for this adaptor!

It's very sad because it's kind of expensive. I'm thinking about returning it, but still find use for it w/ my MBP 13".

Bottom line: gorgeous crisp video w/ great sound transfer that work son earlier models, but not if you bought the MBP9,1.

    Worthless after a few months.

    • Written by from Baton Rouge

The connector worked fine at first, but it stopped working completely after only a few months. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

    lasted me a year

    • Written by from Hinesville

I don't understand why this adapter ceased to work after a year, it has no moving parts!? it was never mistreated, why would something as simple as transmitting a direct contact signal fail to work after months of use!? i'm speechless. it gets 2 stars for lasting 12 months, thats it.

WHAT EVERY MACBOOK PRO VIDEO USERS NEED

    • Written by from Anaheim

Don't know why Apple doesn't make these adapters for their own computers (they've done it in the past), but Griffin's 2-for-1 is a must for anyone who likes to display their videos onto a TV screen or computer monitor. The video works great and though I have a 2010 MBP 13 that has audio thru its mini display port, I have yet to test it on a HDMI TV that has audio built into it. Otherwise, works wonders.

    Flickering Pixels

    • Written by from Bogota

This adapter does not work well. When screen is dark or on a dark background you will see flickering pixels appearing randomly all across the external display. I bought 2 and both had the same issue when using the DVI extension. Unnaceptable.

    Excellent UNTIL DEATH

    • Written by from Lewistown

Adapter worked great when first bought. Clear picture and sound. Aesthetically pleasing as well. However, after the first 4 months, the adapter started to lose signal. I would constantly have to bend the adapter to gain signal to the computer. After changing HDMI cables, ports, and tvs, i concluded that the adapter was at fault. I would NOT recommend this product as it only worked for a few months.

    Excellent in every way.

Apple should have a device like this also. What most of the people complain about is that is doesn't have audio, but if you go to their website it clearly says any macbook or macbook pro before april 2010 will not have audio. For that I would recommend an Aux cable. But for me my machine is past april 2010 and now has a built in audio transmitter so all I need is this little thing and a cheap $2 HDMI cable from amazon and I am set. thanks once again for a great product.

I'm so bummed, the video looks great, but there's no sound. What can I do? I already paid for this and I don't want to pay for another one.

    This works Great!

    • Written by from Gander

I have tested this adapter on my new MBP i7 to a Samsung P2370HD and it works great. I have had both HDMI signals(with sound) and DVI connected to my external display and the picture is superb -- seems even better with HDMI.

It's awful nice to have a two in one unit!!! For only $39.

    Functional

    • Written by from Manchester

I picked up a May 2010 MacBook Pro after waiting for the promise of HDMI output with Sound. This display converter works. That is about the best compliment for an item to uphold : does it work, yes. My only wish was it would be a single unit vice a two piece adaptor but that does add functional use of it since if you need a DVI converter you have it.

    Re: Be Warned Video Only

    • Written by from Milford

This is a response to CM of Sebring's review: I researched the mini display port and this is what i came across "MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), and MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2010) computers supply an audio signal from the Mini-DisplayPort."
Now this is directly from an apple support page so i know i am not wrong. Not all Mini Display Port to HDMI cables allow the transfer of audio. Since i am not allowed to post the URL, just google mini display port to hdmi with audio and click on the first link you see which is an apple support page. It will explain everything. I hope this is useful to everyone

    Be warned...video only

    • Written by from Sebring

Many people might look at the HDMI section of the adapter and be fooled into thinking that it allows for the transference of audio as well. I noticed that PO from San Diego seemed to have that idea. The Mini display ports on a Macbook do not allow for audio transfer, so please don't make the mistake of thinking they do.

As such, you will only get video, and not audio. You will have to get a stereo audio cable to transfer the sound.

Great HDMI video but no audio

    • Written by from San Diego

Going from my MacBookPro 13inch which I bought in May of 2010 (is that considered mid-2010?) mini displayport to HDMI on my HDTV brings great video, super sharp. But I cannot get the audio to work and the option does not appear in my System Preferences to select. So that was kind of a letdown. But compared to most converters, this thing is super tiny, making it work smoother with my HengeDock and it just looks cooler than the big bulky ones we are all used to.

Maybe I need some kind of MacBook firmware update to get audio passed through?

    Great, Works Just as Advertised

    • Written by from Marstons Mills

Although it is not as flexible as I would have liked, this adapter does a great job transmitting an HD signal and audio from my 2010 MBP to my HDMI equipped TV.

    Mini DisplayPort > HDMI > DVI-D not DVI-I

    • Written by from Seattle

Not compatible with DVI-I. The product does not work for DVI-I plugs, common to many flat screen TVs built in the pre-digital TV tuner era. Nowhere on this site or on the product's packaging does it specify which type of DVI, so before you buy be sure you know whether you need DVI-I or DVI-D.

Product consists of two pieces: 1)Mini DisplayPort to HDMI 2)HDMI to DVI-D. The first adapter connects snugly with my MacBook. The adapter will not accidentally slide out of the MacBook, even with the weight of an HDMI cord plugged into its HDMI output.
