I'm Kicking myself for not buying these first.

    • Written by from Gretna

So I heard a pair of these, and I was blown away. They sound much more natural than my Dre Beats Studios, and have a lot more power and depth than my Audiotechnica's, and in my opinion, even sound more full than Bose QuietComforts. I realize that this model doesn't use active noise canceling, but the noise isolation is just as good (if not better) than Dre's active noise canceling. It's not as good as Bose, but Bose headphones make me nauseas anyway. In my opinion, these are the best for the price.

Great sound, it is a real concert for one!

    • Written by from NIEUWEGEIN

I am a producer and DJ and I always use my HD-25 II sennheiser headphones. But these are real DJ headphones and aren't that comfortable after wearing them several hours.

I was looking for good headphones for my iPhone but did not want to buy headphones with lower quality. Which makes it very difficult because the HD-25 is The standard for monitoring, producing and DJ-ing in Europe (for me Amsterdam).

Offcourse I tried the Beats Studio, but they are terrible if you are used to sharp and honest sound. Besides the fact that I think that people with a Beats are just showing off like 'ow look at my and my overpriced headphones'. :)

The P5 just gives you that uber quality HiFi sound on the go, I enjoyed Michael Jackson like never before! The P5 look so ridiculously amazing and the fact that it is a headset makes you never want to take them off again, they are so light en comfi to wear.

So I would say get to the store and try a Beats first and than the P5 and you know what I mean.

Picked over Bose QC 15 and Dre Beats

    • Written by from Conway

I have been struggling with the Bose QC 15 and the Dre Beats for a while now. Here is the reason why I chose the P5's over the others.

    Bose
I liked the Bose QC15's noise canceling over all the others. Bose has worked very well on this technology but let's face it... it work REALLY well on airplanes and good in the office environment. For me, the noise canceling did not outweigh sound quality for 90% office/home use vs 10% air travel. One thing I did not like about the QC 15's was the plastic-y headband.

    Dr Beats
I loved the base in these phones and the sound quality was *good* for what I would use them for but the biggest drawback for me was the PLASTIC. The displays I have seen in audio stores and demo units all were broken. I quickly ruled these out because of the quality of the materials used. They look great new but take a look after 6-months of use. The noise canceling was just okay and no factor at all in my decisions.

... this brought to me the B&W P5s.

I have had them about a week and these are the best phones I have put on my head ever. The sound is incredible and best of all no batteries for noise canceling. BTW, you don't need it in these headphones because of the design. The block out most, if not all, the ambient noise. I am about to take a trip on an airplane next week but have no doubts they will be great performing without ACTIVE noise canceling. They are SO comfortable to wear. I have had them on for about 8 hours today and really have not noticed.

Did I mention the quality that has gone into building these? One word: superiority. Every piece of hardware on these is 10x better than anything I have compared them to.

If you are thinking about buying these... stop thinking... do it!

Makes Bose look like cheap toy manufacturers

    • Written by from NEW YORK

I've always loved the sound of the Bose Around-Ear headphones, but was never happy with the low quality of their product. The main problem I always had with them was how the cord eventually breaks from the audio jack.

These Bowers & Wilkins headphones look great, they sound even more amazing, and have beautiful top-quality construction. The cord is even changeable when you pop the cushion off the headphone!!! (My favorite feature, aside from the brilliant sound)

I know these will be a great investment to last a long time (longer than the 1 year Bose headphones so) and are worth every dollar.

    Excellent sound

    • Written by from PATTERSON

For years I've been using Sennheiser HD580 headphones. I enjoy them so much I have two sets, just in case one has to go back for service. (the pads need replacing as they wear with use.) After reading the reviews from others here, I decided to try the P5's out. B&W's reputation for studio monitors is excellent, and I was hoping that experience would transfer to their headphones.
After a week of ownership I can say that they are indeed excellent. The sound is very neutral and clear. My ears tell me that nothing is added or subtracted from the audio being pumped into them. Being closed to outside noises, I get the impression that I'm hearing more than with the Sennheisers.
The only minor issue is while wearing glasses, the pads place too much pressure on my temples. I have to raise my glasses up above the pads to alleviate those pressure points.

    Good product, horrible tech support.

    • Written by from Vancouver

I've owned my pair of P5s for just over a year now. They sound (or sounded) great. Unexpectedly, the left earpiece stopped working last week. Good luck trying to get in touch with B&W for warranty support - they have been unresponsive to my emails for 3 days and their phone system has transfered me to a dead line all the times I have called. This is not the level of support I would expect from such a premium product.

    Absolutely Stunning

    • Written by from Yorba Linda

When I purchased the Bowers and Wilkins P5's I knew they would not disappoint. These are by far the best pair of headphones I have even owned or seen. The build quality is unheard of these days, all metal and leather. The sound is absolutely beautiful. There is no obnoxious bass, everything is perfectly balanced. These headphones are also extremely comfortable to wear, with their plush earpads with memory foam. The case that is included with the P5's is very stylish, and has outstanding build quality. By far the best purchase I have made in a long time! I definitely recommend these to anyone who likes amazing sound. You will be satisfied with the build quality and sound! Thank you Bowers and Wilkins for making such an outstanding product.

A pure and rich sound experience

    • Written by from Linne

Because I listen to music a lot and got tired of my in ears. I was looking for an upgrade , testing the obvious brands like Bose, Beats, Sennheiser etc. I came across these Bowers and Wilkins P5's. I knew the brand but never tried a product.

At first sight you already know this is something special, no plastics like the other brands mentioned above. They fit perfectly, there's no pressure on your head and the leather is very comfortable on your ears, which means you can listen for hours.

So they are comfortable and build like no other, but most importantly is the sound quality, in short: I was blown away with it. The sound is so pure and so rich. I don't think any headphone can reproduce the original sound better than the Bowers and Wilkins P5's.

I'm really, really happy with my headphones. My advice: If you're about to spend 299 on a pair of good headphones consider these, try them and I think the P5's will blow you away as well.

Great Design - except for a couple of things

    • Written by from Fort Lee

If you're a long-distance traveler like me, you may have experienced discomfort with having earbuds in for extended periods of time. I wanted to move away from "inner ear" headphones to something with great sound, a low profile and the ability to take and answer calls on my iPhone.

The Bowers & Wilkins P5 headphones fit the bill, offering Zeppelin-like sound in a portable package. I've tried these with a wide range of music styles and from classical to opera; indie to pop, the sound is natural with good base definition and acceptable (albeit noticable at times) high-end clipping.

Construction is sturdy steel and leather - the earcups are held in place magnetically, not a problem if you use the included soft bag for transporting them. Included are two cables - one with iPod / iPhone controls, the other without. I don't advise you change the cable a lot though; the little tab on the inside of the earcup that holds the cord is sharp and can nick the cable, and the molded plug feels cheap - of more concern is there is no flex of the cable at the plug end so over time the cord may internally fray and break.

Overall, these headphones are value for money exhibiting good performance and a solid design. With a fold-flat design and passive noise-reduction earcups, the Bower & Wilkins P5 fit that bill matching style and performance in a minimalistic over-the ear package.

    Superior Sound and Comfort

    • Written by from MILLERSVILLE

Compared to the other headphones made for the iPhone this is superior in every way. Maybe if you are a DJ the Monster Beats would be a superior headphone because it sacrifices the midrange for overwhelming bass. The P5, however, is a serious hifi headphone. It responds sharply to the music and gives recordings clarity that no other headphone can reproduce with an iPod as a source.

They are noise isolating and very good at doing so. They effectively shield you from the outside world. Compared to Bose's sound cancelling, it may let a little more noise in but the sound quality is still far superior. Moreover, there is no pressurized feeling that the NC feature creates that leads to listening fatigue. I compared these to some open-air models like the Grado i80 which audiophiles laud as the best value headphones. These sound better with my iPhone as the source. Perhaps a real amplifiers headphone jack would reveal some imperfections but for use with an iPod it simply does not get better than the P5.

I wholly enjoy listening to music more than I did before I owned the P5s. Listening to low quality music is a low quality experience. Listening to high quality music with high quality equipment reveals an entirely different activity. The quality and emotion that musicians put into their work shines through when using the P5. Ballads suddenly convey the emotion of the singer in a way that lower quality gear cannot. I highly encourage these; all I can say is you'll never know how much fun listening to music can be until you experience a little hifi.

I've had these for a few days and after breaking them in, I can say that the quality is much improved. While still not fully broken in, it's a night and day difference from when I first listened to them out of the box. Build quality is perfect, no plastic pieces here, and the packaging is brilliant. Unlike the Zeppelin Mini which I was not impressed with, these headphones are excellent and well worth the price!

    Great Product!

    • Written by from Valencia

First of all, the primary areas I had in mind when purchasing headphones was audio quality, design/build quality, ergonomics/portability and cost. I tested every headphone throughout my local Apple store as well as the one's Bestbuy had on display and in my opinion the P5's were the clear winner. The design/build quality is typical B&W. The looks are very elegant and will appeal to anyone that likes the finer things in life. The build quality is very good and should last for years as long as you maintain the fine leather. Ergonomically, I love the feel of the pads and the fit is very comfortable. The cord being on one side is a plus but I do think the controls could have been lowered about two inches but I'm sure I will get use to it. As for the sound, I find them to sound very warm with a good smooth bass. The mid's are warm as well as the highs but it could be a bit more detailed. Controls work great on the iPhone.

Overall, it will be hard to find a better headphone for $300 that will give you quality sound, comfort and the look of elegance. I had the P3's for a few days and realized for a price tag of $200 they just weren't cutting it that's why I stepped up to the P5's.

    light weight but solid Performance

    • Written by from Anchorage

The headphones feel excellent on the head even after prolonged wearing. The sound is great even the base is sufficient. The cable could be better, but is removable for replacement. Wish they would put the the beats Dr. Dre cable in the box instead. Maximum Volume output is excellent. Passive Noise Cancelation in the Airplane was on par with my much more expensive Sennheiser PXC 450 active Noise Cancelation headset, which will go on the block. Prior to buying the P5's I compared at the Apple Store with the Beats by Dr. Dre Studio and as much as the base is better at the Studio, the overall sound is more balanced at the P5's.

Well worth the price. Best in Class

    • Written by from Pickering

Anyone in the Audiophile Industry knows about the build and sound quality of Bowers and Wilkens speakers..These headphones are fantastic. Having tried BOSE QC and Dr Dre's in the $300-$400 prince range, the P5's are better in every category. Bulid Design (All stainless steel and NZ leather). Sound is detailed, mids are clear and the bass is clean not boomy. The sound leans a llttle to the warm side but never do your ears get fatigued. If you are looking for headphone in the $300 range. Put the P5's on the top of your list. You will not be disspointed.

By far the best pair of headphones I have ever owned or even tried. Extremely comfortable to wear for long listening periods and the sound quality is incredible. Although the P5 is not focused on sound cancelation, these headphones do a great job at eliminating outside sound. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and sold on B&W for life.
