Performance Mouse MX doesn't work with Mountain Lion

    • Written by from Burbank

I've been using Logitech Performance Mouse MX for the past 2 years. It's the best mouse I've ever had. It stopped working after I upgraded my operating system from Lion to Mountain Lion. Basically Logitech Performance Mouse MX is not compatible with Mountain Lion.

Be Weary Of This Mouse On OSX

    • Written by from Indianola

I got this mouse today and have been messing with it for a few hours and let me just say that when I bought this mouse I had very VERY high expectations. Right when I opened the box I was very please with the button layout and how the mouse felt. I love the free scroll button on the top and the switch to the regular scrolling button.

BUT! DO NOT INSTALL THE OSX DRIVERS FROM LOGITECH!!

The Logitech drivers conflict with the existing OSX mouse settings. Meaning, if I have my default OSX scrolling speed set to the 4th tick, the Logitech driver multiplies this by whatever speed it's set to. That's what they mean by "hyper speed scrolling". Sure, fine if you're working in Excel, but it totally breaks Minecraft if you use the scroll wheel for selecting items in your hot bar. I'd imagine this is the same for other games "weapon selecting" as well.

The only con to this is not having any of your extra buttons work. I haven't had a chance to try third party button customization options, but I couldn't imagine they don't exist. If I find one I like, I'll be sure to update this post. So far a great mouse, with the exception of the absolutely terrible drivers for OSX. For $85 (sale on newegg) I expected better quality drivers, but, still a great mouse in terms of comfortably and button layout.

I'd just like to say that for all those people complaining that this mouse is to heavy, you must be spending WAY to much time on the computer. I mean, the mouse is like 1/4th a pound, if you're really to weak to move a mouse around a desk then that's just sad. Sure it's heavier than the common mouse, but it's NOT a common mouse. I actually love the weight to the mouse, it makes me feel like it's solid and of good quality.

In the end, I give the drivers a 1 star for OSX and the actual mouse 4 stars. I could see this mouse getting better reviews if maybe it was set to a more reasonable price of $60.

    Probably the best on market

Logitech rarely go wrong when it come sot input devices, and this is no exception.

It looks beautiful and feels even better on your hand, like its a natural part of you makes you feel completely in the driving seat of your computer and in control. The response is amazing, even on my lacquered desk and the ability to charge while using is thoughtful, however I wish the USB charging cable was thinner and more flexible. but then it rarely needs a charge

    Expensive and No compatible

Worst drivers for OSX SnowLeopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. Doesn't work with Finder the preset button, you cant chose the move speed. It's Only work as normal Mouse in OSX.
You have to use with SteerMouse if you want all the function as a Windows Like. cost $20 more.

Buy this for Windows NOT for OSX

    Fantastic

I have this mouse and it's small cousin the notebook "Anywhere MX" mouse, and they're both great. Really enjoying the customizable buttons: programmed the thumb rest button for Mission Control and the zoom button for Launchpad.

I have huge hands, and this is a superb mouse for those whom have larger-than-average hands.

it's good/better, but not quite there

    • Written by from Anderson

I bought this mouse for my macbookpro (mac os x 10.7)
and the first quirk was: it wasn't supported. at all.
I then started using it with my work laptop, until recently I discovered that logitech came out with the new drivers for it.
After installing the new driver and tweaking around with it for a while, it works quite well. I must however say, it is clear that this mouse is not 'native' to the mac system. It still has a few quirks about it, but I'm still tweaking the settings.
bottom line: it is a great mouse, but it isn't a plug and play type of deal when hooking it up to a 10.7 mac os. By the time it does get to where it need to be, the next os x will already be out...so, we'll have to wait and see.

    Huge Disappointment

    • Written by from Lillington

Other reviews on this page say that the Logitec Performance Mouse MX works well with Lion, so I ordered the mouse, only to find that the accompanying CD yielded to me only a message saying that the mouse is not compatible with my OS 10.7.4. The message on the CD provided a reference to the Logitech company where presumably I might find a fix for the incompatability; however, I was lost trying to find my way through requests for technical information which I did not know and could not find out. So, I am shipping the mouse back to Apple.

    Best mouse ever!

    • Written by from Kansas City

I've been using mice for 40 years, and this is my favorite. It has great ergonomics, is wireless, uses a common rechargeable AA battery, can be charged via USB, has no lag (like bluetooth mice), has several programmable buttons, and has excellent pointer tracking with the Logitech Darkfield technology. The mouse works great with OS X, Windows, Linux, and all virtual machines I have tried. The Hyper Fast Scrolling is the greatest innovation to mice since the demise of mouse balls.

LOGITECH PERFORMANCE MX MOUSE HAS PROBLEMS WITH MAC LION

    • Written by from Memphis

Mac Lion users should be aware that this mouse has control problems with its scrolling and zooming when updating a Mac to Lion. All other features seem to be OK, but Logitech needs a new driver for Mac Lion.

    Great mouse, BUT...

    • Written by from Pittsburg

i love this mouse. its comfortable, lots of customization, love how it works on any surface. One of the reasons i went with this mouse was its ability to assign the thumb button to bring up the expose. I HATE that after about maybe a year, the left click has begun to fail to click or gives me an unwanted double click; this happens more than half of the time. I read that this is a common occurrence with Logitech mice. For $100, i expect this mouse to at least last me around 2-3 years! I have since gone back to the apple mouse and been shopping around since. Great mouse but the durability extremely disappointed me.

Simple put the best mouse for graphics of any sort.

    • Written by from Bristol

If you edit photos in lightroom or aperture you know how important a good mouse is. This is the mouse you're looking for believe me. I'm on my second one of these having worn out the right button after 18 months of 9 hour a day use.

This mouse is very accurate and very comfortable, non of that jumping around you used to get. The extra buttons are great easy to program and well located. The range of this mouse is good and it can be used on any surface without issue.

I was looking to see if there is anything new on the market for my replacement but this seems the best currently available so I'm getting another.

Yes it would be better if it were bluetooth as you have to remove the receiver if you want to use it with both an iMac and a macbook pro. Equally it would be great if the scroll wheel moved left and right better but its the best on the market today.

if apple were to use this design shape for a new magic mouse with the touch sensitive pad like an iPhone on top I'd buy it as it would be application relevant and clean from the muck that tends to get picked up, but they don't so there we go.

Mouse is excellent, Itunes not so much.

Itunes is not fully compatible with this mouse.
If you really likes the mouse use it on Windows Media Player or another player.

    Decent, not great

    • Written by from Long beach

Lacks Bluetooth which is a huge downside. They use a proprietary connector that clogs up a USB port.

The scrolling is not the smoothest no matter how you adjust it.

It is very comfortable and the additional buttons are a bonus.

    Needs to be Bluetooth

    • Written by from Holly

Love this mouse. Fits my hand "like a glove" and is great for precise graphics work. However, it's really DUMB that it's not Bluetooth. My laptop has 2 USB ports - using this mouse limits me to 1 available USB port. Love the mouse, hate that it's not Bluetooth.

    Very very good buy.

This mouse has been a pleasure to use. I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch and I browse the web, do a little Photoshopping, and some soft core gaming. My previous mouse was the Magic Mouse (or whatever the touch sensitive Apple mouse is called). After using the Apple mouse for a while I realized that it had many flaws. I'd acidently swipe the mouse sometime's which would interrupt me when streaming Youtube. Second, it wasn't very comfortable at all. And lastly the conection and laser sensor I found wasn't very good.

With the MX mouse, I had none of those problems. The mouse is VERY nice to hold. the various, well designed buttons are a joy to use. Also the laser is very nice. I found myself carrying this mouse with me all around the house and even using it on surfaces such as a couch or glass.

This mouse is well worth the 100 bucks. Honestly no matter how much of a 'wow' factor the Magic Mouse has, this mouse is way better designed. The little receptor the plugs into the USB port, only sticks out maybe 3/4s of a cm. It turns on instantly and holds it's charge FOREVER. In fact, I don't even know if I've charged it 3 times yet and I've had it for a year.

This mouse deserves a 5/5. I don't know what more you could want from a mouse. Everything I do on a computer, this mouse can handle.

    5/5, 10/10 bye all means.

    I definitely recommend this mouse

    • Written by from Rogers

I absolutely love this mouse. The ergonomic design is awesome. It fits my hand and feels so much better than what I have been using. I have average sized hands. I'm have a 7 1/2" hand size, from tip of middle finger to bottom of my palm. With that said, this mouse will feel great even with someone with bigger hands. I didn't know what I was missing until I got the mouse. With the programable buttons, I'm spoiled now. The mouse is designed so that the buttons do not interfere with my work flow or get in the way. It is far superior than the "Might Mouse" and "Magic Mouse" and does even more than they can do. Plus the battery lasts much longer and can be recharged while you work. The best thing about it, is that it works great with my Mac. Check it out for yourself.

    Better than expected

    • Written by from Hatboro

Remarkably, I didn't expect this mouse to be very good.

I purchased this mouse as an experiment to see if it could possibly be the best mouse for me and to my surprise, it turned out to be true.

My previous mouse: Apple Magic Mouse

    Problems with the Magic Mouse:
    1. Surface too sensitive, causing serious problems when editing videos.
    2. Looses connection frequently.
    3. Unable to rest hand on the mouse -- too low -- and -- the multi-touch surface prohibits resting the hand.
    4. Battery indicator shows full charge until it is too late. Must replace batteries -- not rechargeable.

Solutions with the Logitech Performance Mouse MX:
    1. Surface very comfortable with rubberized edges. A pleasure to hold.
    2. Never lost connection since using it. Turn it on, it's instant connection immediately with no waiting.
    3. The ability to rest my hand on the mouse comfortably is a feature I didn't realize I missed with the other brand.
    4. The ability to charge this mouse (while using) or directly plugged into an electrical outlet is the perfect solution.

The solid feel is very nice, but I find that horizontal scrolling a bit tricky. It works when tweaked from the Logitech Control Center, but it's not as smooth as the Apple Magic Mouse.

The numerous programmable buttons are very nice and missed terribly with the Magic Mouse.
The scroll wheel is a pleasure to use. Not quite as precise as the Magic Mouse, but very smooth.

When comparing all features, the Logitech Performance Mouse MX has the competition beat.
It's a bit heavy to use, but overall a much better and more reliable mouse.

This mouse is compatible with both the Mac and PC.

CS5 Design Suite and Web browsing

Lovely feel to the material when you've gripped it into your palm. The functions of all the buttons are very good especially the "preview all pages button which I think comes in very handy.
The pointer can become very smooth and precise, and this is very helpfull when using InDesign or PhotoShop etc..

The only grips I might have would be the positioning of the forwards and backwards buttons, it just feels like they're up a fraction too high for your thumb to press, you'll notice this when you've got a deadline to make and your in a hurry, you're either gonna be pressing the wrong page button or else missing the page button just below all the time.
Another issue is the speed that the mouse wheel zooms into the screen, it goes "way" to fast, you'll constant be trying to re-correct your view on the screen if you use this. Perhaps the settings just have to be tweaked on the preferences menu screen.
On a whole, I still really like this mouse, it might not be blue-tooth but it is rechargeable straight from your laptop if you wanted too and the battery lasts a long time!

    Impressive yet...

    • Written by from MIDDLEBURY

I had been anticipating this mouse's arrival for a few days and when it finally arrived, the packaging was impressive. I set it up, it began to work without any problems and I began to download the Logitech Control Center in order to fully use all the possibilities it promised (the customizable buttons etc); however, it doesn't support Mac OS X 10.6 meaning I can't use it. So here I am with a mouse that supposedly will allow me to do many things such as Expose, zoom etc but cannot use them! The only thing I can do is scroll, point and click...the functions of a plain old mouse. If I wanted a plain regular mouse, I would've gotten that instead of paying around 100 dollars. However, the shape is a bit awkward too, will take some time to get used to. But, the dark field laser technology is impressive and working on glass is simply perfect! I wish Logitech will develop LCC so that it can be installed in 10.6. I will keep this mouse in the hopes that some day, I will be able to use all of its features...

Great for new Mac-compatible Steam games!

    • Written by from Plano

Hoorah for Valve bringing the PC gaming scene to the Mac! This mouse is ideal for desktop gaming and is absolutely accurate. Works well with games like Portal and other apps like Firefox.

My only wish is that Logitech's software worked more in sync with OS X's native mouse settings. Other than that, this beats Apple's Magic mouse by a LONG shot...
