    Fantastic... simply fantastic stuff!

My HD gave up on me out of the blue and I thought I had lost nearly 2 TB of data, but thanks to this software I was able to recover 99.9% of it! Literally only about 4 of my 9000 files came back corrupted, and I'm talking about big files too (some > 10 GB).

One of the best features was that it was able to recover the original file name and directory structure. This was the only one that could do this (out of the 4 or 5 softwares that I tried).

I can't recommend this software highly enough!

Buy this if you need - get it from the site - not the app store

    • Written by from SHORT HILLS

The other day I accidentally deleted my iPhoto library. This was a new librarycreated two weeks prior. I was sure I had most of the photos backed up but I knew the videos did not back up to photo stream so I was actually quite upset that I lost what was no more than 50 or 100 pictures and videos. That night I went online and downloaded a couple of Data recovery services but they didn't work so well. I didn't purchase them but when the option came up to recover them it was not easy-to-understand understand. I was then advised to try data rescue 3. For me it was simply a goal of getting the library back. I currently use a Macbook RP 15 inch with 16 gigs of memory and a 512 SSD so I thought the file is gone.

When I went on to the data rescue website I need to buy the version from the website as the version on the app store will not work with the operating system (its 40 more but worth it). The thing that was most interesting to me was there was a telephone number for tech support which is almost impossible to find today. If you do find it you're generally on hold for a long time before you can get somebody on the phone and then it's generally not very helpful. Somebody picked up within one minute of dialing and told me exactly what I needed to do. i bought software for $99 understanding there was no refund if it didn't work although the initial search that didn't include recovery did show my library in the tree as well as it being a 60 gig file so I was comfortable that this work. I accidentally downloaded the wrong software from the company for $99 and when I called the guy up asking how to run what i thought was the right software I downloaded he immediately gave me a proper serial number even though that was my mistake and there're no refunds on the software. That left me with a very good feeling to begin with. Then I run the software on my library and I was done. Complete and intact it restored it to my hard drive and I can't be happier. If you delete something try not to use your hard drive as I learned because he can overwrite the files by this software and use it. The photos were my three children many graduation pictures I thank you very much for such an incredible piece of software. I live in NJ and work in the financial industry - I'm not a robo reviewer - this is the real deal and a real heartfelt review. thanks guys.

    Saved Me!

So happy with this app. This is a real review. I dropped an external hardrive with 2 years of my works files on it. Although when I plugged it in, it showed up, sometime during that day it stopped mounting at all, although the casing could be seen in Disk Utility and it was receiving power - the actual drive couldn't mount so disk utility couldn't do anything for it. It was friday night and I had only 2 days until I was supposed to deliver these files!
I downloaded the free trial version to see what it could do. Magically it could see the drive! It could do a deep scan but not a quick scan. This took about 10 hrs for about 500GB via USB 2. The deep scan compiled the files into folders of file type - not ideal for graphic design files, but better than nothing if the drive was totally dead. I tried recovering one file and it opened ok.
I really needed the file structure ideally - so after reading around I decided to try and clone the drive and then try some other applications on it that might repair its structure, I had read one report that mentioned their drive working after being cloned. I was looking for a cloning software when I read that this app can clone by itself! For a long time I couldn't find the cloning feature - it is hidden. You have to go to top menu and go View > Tasks - then scroll down. The clone feature is there. Note choose you clone target carefully! Cloning to a new disk image file is safest if you have no idea what you're doing. Read the file in the ? button carefully! Anyway although the software documentation said that the cloned hardrive would have the same problems as the original drive - when I opened my newly cloned disk image - everything was there in pristine condition. The cloning process took about 7 hrs and reported 3ooKb of 'bad data'. So I guess my actual data wasn't too badly corrupted - it was just the drive. So I can say 100% win on this software working for a non mounting drive by cloning to get the data off it. And if its really badly damaged it will still recover actual files individually using the deep scan, which is not too bad if thats your only option.

    Works Magic!

    • Written by from Oak Park

My fiancee accidentally did a permanent delete of over a months worth of files for her final architecture master's thesis project only 5 hours before she was supposed to present. Using this software I was able to recover all of the files she deleted with enough time to spare so that she could prepare and present her project. Not only did it recover the files she needed but files from years ago! The files do lose their original names but the software keeps them organized well enough that it's relatively easy to find the files in need.

I wish I could individually thank every single person who was a part of making this software. This software is a legitimate life saver when people do stupid things! Always backup files, but if you do something stupid it's nice to know that Prosoft Engineering's got your back.

Be sure to download their trial software first. Let it do it's scan to see if it recovered your files and when it has you can purchase online and recover the files with no lost time. Also keep in mind that this software takes time to run. To search through a 750GB harddrive it took total of 2 hours from download to recovery. This software is worth every penny!

I have had nothing but joy from this software!! I have tried all the others and Data Rescue is the easiest to understand & very quick at recovery. The clone tool is very powerful too even with windows drives on Mac.

I was skeptical of this program because I thought once I wiped my computer clear, not by choice, but by direction of a pro, I didn't think I would be able to get anything back. But to my surprise, most of my docs, pics, and other files were recovered BUT the only thing is they come out as number and letter codes which you don't know what that file is until you enlarge it on your viewer or double click on the file. So going through the 10K + files was not fun but I was just glad I was able to get some files back. Also, once you go through your files, there are some random files which you'll find going through them. Bizarre! Another tedious task was going through every picture and renaming them to the appropriate folder, but I suppose getting those memories back is priceless. Thanks Apple Support Managers for helping me out through this process... I almost died when I saw I had nothing on my Mac except the initial apps you get when you buy a new Mac.

Just the best!!! It recovered "secured empty trash"

    • Written by from LOS ANGELES

I got this a few years ago and only used it once until last week for the second time. But it's is worthy.

I had to use it and it did recovered files that were rewritten multiple times and even going in the command line on Mac isn't the solution.
Some types of files aren't supposed to be recovered that's why you use secure empty but this software is out of this world.
It goes so low in the hierarchy that it actually can accomplish this kind of tasks.
Companies charges often $2000 for data recovery, so this is a bargain -

I don't usually post positive reviews because when you buy something it supposedly works so I rate if there's problems but when a product is so well done then I feel like I have to leave a review at least to thanks this team of engineers that programed an amazing tool.
In app. graphics and navigation are great as well.

I don't buy software generally but this one I did because it's like having at least one screwdriver in your house when you aren't a handy man, you just got to have one :))

I had stuck a hard drive into a RAID array not intending for it to be part of the RAID array, and despite telling it not to format it, the RAID system (of course) began writing onto it although I stopped it pretty quickly. However, my computer could not read from this HD afterwards. This program was recommended to me by a techie. But being unsure whether to spend $99 for something that may or may not work, I wrote to the Sales team, which responded very quickly and recommended running the demo version in the Deep Scan mode. It worked and was so easy to use! I bought the full version and was able to download all the files from that HD. I can't recommend this product highly enough!

Date Rescue 3 saved my bacon!

    • Written by from Meadville

    1) Their website is awesome
Data Rescue 3 was not the first software I looked at. But your website did exactly what it needed to do for your target audience; it gave me piece of mine. The FAQs and support page for Data Rescue 3 were useful and obviously someone had put in that extra bit of effort (screenshots, clear steps) to make it a valuable resource. Your website was the real differentiator for me.

    2) Providing a fully functional demo version is smart business.
But you already knew that. With this kind of software it was important to me that it worked and more importantly showed me it worked before purchasing. I ran the scan, recovered a file, saw the others I wanted, and then making the purchase was a no-brainer. It was the best $99 I’ve spent in a long time.

    3) The customer support was incredibly helpful even before I made the purchase.
I had a rough time making the bootable DVD via an even older iMac. I called the tech support bright and early Monday morning and the gentlemen I spoke to was patient, knowledgeable, and very anxious to solve my problem. That is more rare than you know. Please buy this gentlemen a beer!

I’m recovering my data right now and then I’ll do a clean install of Mavericks. Problem solved, crisis averted, and I’ll recommend your products whenever I can. I thank you!

Fantastic software! Does what it says on the tin

Used DR3 recently as I had managed to format my storage disk in error which contained irreplaceable pictures. By using this software, which was VERY easy to use, I managed to recover ALL of it quickly and simply.

DR3 is VERY competitively priced over its rivals and, in my own experience, did EXACTLY what it claimed to do. Cannot fault it and would recommend it to anyone requiring data recovery software.

Also, the guys at Pro Soft were very helpful when I needed some assistance after losing my product key. Top support and very quick to respond too!!

    World class product!!

Mega jar - data loss on an usb-stick

    • Written by

    A couple of days ago:
Mega jar - my Macbook can not anymore read an usb-stick with documents, on which I work since a month and a half ...
Supermega shock - getting aware, that no back up of the data exists ...

Of course I checked immediately all recovering tools advertised on the web, and I took notice of RESCUE3, developed of a little start up in California. What they wrote about their tool sounded good to me - I downloaded the demo, run a test scan successfully and purchased the full version. So here is my tiny recovering-report:

For a start I scanned my damaged 2GB USB-Stick by means of the tool and it could read the usb-stick and additionally find and recover within a couple of minutes abaout 80% of all files. And - fortunately among them were the ones of capital importance. Uff. (A little bit luck in addition is needful!)
Then I created a clone and repeated the procedure (funny to watch the gadget in between, but it is not in a pitch, isn’t it ...?) with a comparable result.

Amazingly a lot of folders has been restored fully - including all documents with title and the original formatting.
Some titled folders were completely empty.
Some documents were not openable what with unreadable doctypes or other not specified reason.
Some documents were featuring a strange suffix completely unknown to me and my Macbook -:)
Many „DS_Store“ docs, of course. And some docs seemed to be multiply duplicated.
Now there are still about 400 untitled but completely restored docs left in an untitled folder which I have to check in addition.
But the most important docs were found and resorted. So - luck is back!

Right down the line Rescue3 is easy to handle, it is results-producing and I am content having purchased the tool, it is worth its price. And, noteworthy, the customer account manager who advided me, acted very responsible towards the matter, showed up patience and was much help to me!

Thanks to the great developers in California

After I had deleted a large number of Entourage emails by mistake, Data Rescue trawled my hard drive and recovered almost all of them - I was very relieved.
It's simple to use, no technical knowledge required, and it worked very well.

A great product and company - Apple should recommend it

    • Written by from Wilmington

On a Friday night, as I prepared to update the OS on my older Apple Mac Pro, I decided to back up my USER folder/files. The software I used didn't clearly indicate that choosing a destination hard drive meant that drive would be wiped clean...it was. The 150 GB of mostly video files (HD and DV), stored on a 2 TB internal hard drive, was GONE, with only the cloned USER folder/files now on the drive.

After loud expressions of frustration, I began to seek a recovery solution, not sure if that meant a service or DIY via software. My search led me to ProSoft and Data Rescue 3, which clearly stood out from similar products, particularly for Apple owners. It appeared to be a good fit, so I downloaded the "trial" version, installed it and ran a Deep Scan, which indicated there were many, many files that could be reconstructed.

I ordered the "full" version on Saturday for Monday delivery and by Monday night the majority of my lost files were recovered and reconstructed. Granted, there are some things about the way the files were restored that I'm not thrilled with...and a few of the larger HD video files (several GB each) were not recovered at all. But the bulk of my files were rescued and my peace of mind restored.

Thanks ProSoft, for Data Rescue and your support team. If I may suggest, look into how DR3 restores DV video and other files (thousands of small pieces), to see if there's a way to get them back in a more "complete" form. QT and MPEG files seem to return in tact, it's the DV files that I had problems with. Even so, I am thankful for Data Rescue 3 and recommend it.

The best Mac data recovery software I've found yet

    • Written by from Toronto

I've tried three...Stellar Phoenix, VirtualLab Data Recovery and Data Rescue 3. Stellar was useless...recovered thousands of jpegs...couldn't open 1% of them...all corrupted. VirtualLab 'recovered' tens of thousands of photos that actually weren't deleted...it did not find more than a handful of actually deleted photos. Finally, in a last ditch effort, I tried and purchased Data Rescue 3. The one critical folder I deleted and absolutely had to recover had 598 photos in it...Data Rescue 3 perfectly recovered 597 of them...that's the absolute best I can expect and I didn't even use the deep scan option. A brilliant product and well worth the price. Highly recommended!

    A Long Term Friend!

    • Written by from Silver Spring

Used Data Rescue for almost 10 years now and it's not only brought me more hugs and cookies than any other program, but it's saved gigs of my (and my family's) data.

When your hard drives wears out, Data Rescue will let you pull what you need (if you can!), replace it, and keep stepping. I've done full restores at least 6 times and a couple dozen partials and each time I've saved data that I would have regretted losing for years if not the rest of my life. Worth every penny ... for the relief, for the smiles.

In addition, the customer service has been second to none (except maybe AppleCare?, nah). They always email me back with a few hours and have taken care of me while traveling Europe and Asia. Always provided the links and the instruction to allow me to pick up and take off. Very grateful for companies like this.

One days I could just not start my iMac. Thanks to ProSoft I was able to identify the HDD was failing... (too many bad sectors), cloned the drive before complete failure, then recovered all the data I wanted.

    Close but no cigar

    • Written by from Vancouver

While amazing in it's ability to recover files, the files it recovers seem to be renamed in such a manner as to be completely useless for my purpose. It recovered hundreds of video files but even if I recovered them, reconstructing a video timeline with clips with no names is literally impossible. Other than that, great job.

My RAID system died in a way that I could not just swap disks out... Years of critical data was at risk, so the investment seemed worthwhile. Pre-sales support were very helpful and got me going with a demo to prove it would work, needless to say I got all my data back without a hitch.
