    Bad sound quality, fickle performance

    • Written by from Shannock

Got this as a Christmas gift & was really excited. I followed the instructions regarding turning the volume on the car stereo & iphone all the way down, then increasing them simultaneously. All I got was horrible static. I had to turn the volume all the way up to hear ANYTHING, but the static drowned out the music.

Later, and on accident, I hit the FF button and then resumed play. The thing started working (i.e. I could actually hear the music), but the static was still there. I thought I'd fixed the problem.

The next day, I had the original problem of hearing only static and soft, soft music no matter how loud I turned it up. I tried the "trick" again and again, and it only works sometimes.

    Lousy.

    Only Plays on Right Side

    • Written by from San Jose

I am using this in my 2003 Acura, with a Bose system, and it only plays on the right hand side of the car. Adjusted the balance to the left, and I hear nothing. Also, you have to constantly adjust the volume of each song, as some songs are louder/quieter than others.

    Plays just like CD

    • Written by from CHICAGO

I hesitated to purchase this product because there were quite a few negative reviews but I took a chance anyway. I drive an 2001 ML430 and this fitted my casette player fine, plugged the cord into my iphone 4 and it played right away just like my CD player. I also have bose speakers so it just made it much better listening.

I recommend it. For those who it doesn't work so well with I suggest they check their casette players.

    One Star.

The monster iCarPlay was returned within minutes of purchasing it. I tried it in my car with iPhone 4 and iPod classic and the sound was full of static. I've tried fm transmitters, and I was hoping to get better sound quality with this than my current fm transmitter. I don't think either product is worth the money when a new cd player for your car is ~ 125 installed which would have the auxiliary port.

this works much better than having to go through a radio station; it sounds just as good as playing a cd.

Better Sound Quality w/ the New Silver Chip Mechanism

    • Written by from Houston

I bought this EXACT Monster iCarPlay Cassette Adapter 2 years ago and it started to make "clicking" sound so I bought a brand new one today. Monster added a new Silver Chip Mechanism towards the bottom of the tape and improved the sound quality a LOT. But if there is a bottle of oil could be provided to add to the wheels (to prevent "clicking" sound) would make this product PERFECT. Apple should really update this product pic since the new updated adapter has a new silver color coating around the adapter head. This product is way BETTER than FM transmitter.

    Sounds great!

    • Written by from Westbrook

I just got a new used car and the Monster cable that I'd been using didn't fit in the cigarette lighter properly. Since there's a tape deck I thought I'd try this product. Very happy with it. Sounds great. I do agree that the quality of your current system plays a factor and I needed to adjust the volume controls on my phone and the vehicle to cut out distortion and buzzing. After those two minor adjustments I was rocking out! Also, this is $50 cheaper than the new Monster cable I almost bought.

    It works just fine

    • Written by from San Carlos

I use it with my iphone 4. I'm not saying the quality of sound is great but it was good enough that I am able to enjoy the music. The reason I give 4 stars not 5 is because it drops down the sound volume quite a bit that then I tune back to radio, it blasts out so loud! Other than that, I'm happy with this thing.

Too scratchy with my iPhone 4

    • Written by from Plymouth

I don't know if anyone has tried this with iPhone 4. I tried it with mine and had to turn the volume of the car tape player all the way down. Otherwise the sound just blasts off and is too scratchy. The vocals are terrible. I am connecting with my 2006 Lexus RX330. Would like to hear experiences from others that have used this product with iPhone 4.

    This thing has CD quality

    • Written by from BOONE

My daughter has this for her Audi and i thought it sounded OK. I had a FM modulator and it sounded ok,but was a pain because go around a curve and another radio station interrupted. I had seen and bought the Monster iCarplay a few months before I remembered to try it. The first time I used it in my Volvo, I was blown away! I'll probably never buy another CD again! It has CD quality and now, I'm downloading music like crazy from iTunes and every time I get in the car I'm hooking up my iPhone 3GS. I love it and so far have had no problems (and neither has my daughter). I happy that Volvo still put tape players in their cars. Highly recommend

    Very Disappointing

    • Written by from Amherst

I was very disappointed when I tried this in my car. At first I didn't even realize my iPod was playing - it was so soft! This thing seemed to be very weak, and to be able to hear anything I had to turn it up very loud which caused the buzz of the speakers to be heard. I went out and bought the same product made by Belkin and it worked like a charm. If you're in the market for one of these, get the Belkin one, not the Monster one.

Read car manual & it worked great

    • Written by from Saint Louis

I had a 2003 Chevrolet Impala until a month a go in which I used this product every day. At first it worked fine and then it would pop out on me after a short time of play. I came back to this site and reread the reviews and found one where the buyer suggested reading the car manual. After doing this, I learned that for my car I had to turn the stereo off, push in the Aux button, and wait for the Ready light then I could put the tape in and connect my iPhone. After that, no issues. I just gave it to my daughter's boyfriend who drives a later model Ford Taurus and he just told me it keeps popping out on him. I guess the success of this player will be determined by your car's stereo, but I do recommend reading your car's owner's manual before completely giving up.

Two lemons so far, not trying again

    • Written by from Huntsville

We have bought two of these for two different cars, each one has been bad on purchase. The hideous loud buzz mentioned in other reviews, from two different units, on two different tape players. Appalling that they even still sell this product.

The best cassette adapter on the market

    • Written by from Princeton

I've tried several cassette adapter models and none compare in sound quality to this device. I found it to be better than the FM modulator I had previously as well.

Sound on one side of car only

    • Written by from Redding

This tape adapter did not work for me (2003 camry). The sound only comes out of the right side of the car, so whole parts of songs are missing. I know it is not my tape player bc I have tried a normal audio tape and it works fine.
