    I recommend it ^_^

I bought this after deciding that I didn't want to spend $250 on a Canopus/Grass Valley product to convert VHS/VHSMini tapes to DVD. The first time I used it the program crashed 2hrs into the first tape- however after updating the software, it works fine. I know some people complain about the darkness of the picture or the low volume during transfer, but you can adjust the color saturation and volume in iMovie easily enough. It works exactly and as easily as advertised. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to convert their tapes before they start to disintegrate but doesn't want to pay through the nose to have a 'pro' do it.

    Works Great!

I bought the EVC so I could transfer my favourite tv programs from my PVR to my iTunes account and then onto my iPhone. Because it is an analogue transfer the sound and picture quality are not quite as crisp as the HD source I'm recording from. That's okay, because I expected that when I bought the device. Transfer of files is done in real time meaning that it takes one hour to transfer a one hour program from the PVR to my macbook. I'm giving this product four out of five stars for this reason. Hopefully they will come up with a way to transfer programs digitally in just a few minutes. One other thing I should mention is that if you buy the EVC, download the software update from their site before your first transfer as it significantly improves the sound and picture quality over the software version 1.0 it comes with.

    Works Great!!!

this product is so simple and easy to use that even a novice can get good results.
I have a 2010 iMac and have not had any issues at all. I have already ripped through 5 tapes and am using a NAS device to store the data. So far, the results are as good as the original film. I see no choppiness or loss of frames. Keep in mind that this is a simple product and not full featured, but if you are like me and just looking to get the VHS data stored to digital media, this is the product for you. The interface is easy and straightforward.

    Works Beyond Expectation

Works well but drops a few frames in the first few seconds, most capture devices I've used do this as well. My best work around for this is to start recording a few seconds before starting source. The ability to capture audio with iTunes or Adobe Sound Booth using the Elgato as an input devise was a bonus but unable to capture video in Adobe Premiere using the Elgato as an input device. Premiere looks for a firewire input and the MacBook doesn't have one!!! Premiere readily excepts files created by Elgato though. I am using a MacBook with the 2.4 GHz Dual core so others may experience different results. I would recommend this device to anyone who wished to convert analogue sources to digital files.

Solid product at reasonable price, with one shortcoming

    • Written by from New York

I bought the Elgato Video Capture not only to digitize video, but also to watch live tv from a cable box that's in the same room as my computer. While the latter is possible, the software isn't quite set up for it. Instead of having full-screen live video, I have to do the following to watch live tv:

-Connect the RCA (composite) cables from the cable box to the device, and connect the device to my computer via USB2
-Start the software and specify a file name, as if I am about to record video
-Proceed to the next step to see a preview window, which takes about 1/6 of my 13-inch screen . The preview window shows a good-quality live preview (with video and sound) of the output from my cable box, but it's not expandable

One helpful feature software modification: Enable me to watch the live video full-screen, instead of just as a preview window for recording.

    Elgato video capture review

This product is very easy to use, simple device. simple software

Only problem I could find is that you cant view what you are recording in full screen, and also it only has "RCA" and "S-Video" in, no HDMI or Other higher definition in.

But for what I'm going to use it for its perfect!

    Laggy, but good

    • Written by from Foster City

Sometimes when I'm recording my games, I get a lag during recording which speeds up the finished clip for no reason! It still works, but it would be nice if someone can fix the lag problem....
