    cannot find any syncing problems

    • Written by from ridgmont

have been using for a week so far on a dozen video_ts folders. I love being able to just drag the movie folder that contains the video_ts folder straight into turbo 264 hd multiple times to form a Queue and let it get on with it. So far the encoding is very fast i have used lots of different re encoding programs on windows machines but for vob files to mp4 at decent quality this program gets a 100% vote from me.

Very unreliable - years of audio sync problems

    • Written by from Randwick

DO NOT BUY. Read the other reviews carefully - both the HD and original versions of this product have serious problems keeping audio in sync. I've owned mine since 2008. There have been only four updates to the software in that period. None of them fixed this much-complained about problem.

Much easier to just encode when your processor has down time. Encode at night and save the aggravation of returning this dodgy product.

USB device may not be required

    • Written by from Greenfield

I ordered this a while ago to use with a 2007 MacBook Pro, and it works well, as advertised. I tried it with my quad-core i7 MacBook Pro, and it actually encodes faster without the USB stick. Significantly faster. So, you may not need the USB stick at all.

As for the software, it's turnkey out of the box good stuff for converting video to stream to my iPad using Air Video. I batch a bunch of video files for conversion and let it rip. They all resize consistently and the video quality is great.

Speed of Turbo.264 HD Video Encoder

    • Written by from Beloeil

I have had the Elgato Turbo.264 HD for a week now! This is not a bad product but there are free software on the web for mac that does the same thing as the Elgato Turbo.264 for encoding to h.264 just as FAST or even FASTER!!!

I have a 2009 macpro 4 core 2.66ghz encoding a 4gbs 720p video with handbrake (FREE) i get about 90fps of encoding speed. i use the Elgato Turbo.264 for the same file and i get about 69-70fps of encoding speed, i have try the Elgato Turbo.264 without the usb stick and i get about 40-50fps of encoding speed so the usb stick does work!

I think the product is abit over priced, it does work, does it's job, But free software on the web that does the same thing for encoding video files to h.264

    Amazing!

    • Written by from BRIGHTON

This just arrived from the Apple Store yesterday. I have a number of AVI files I have been wanting to convert over to AppleTV. The old way was time-consuming and labourious. The Elgato Turbo way is amazing. Set up the files and it does the rest.

It is fast, and with the files I have converted so far, I haven't noted any sync'ing problems. All the work is handled by the USB stick, so I can still get work done on the computer while it is chugging away.

    I'm happy I bought this.

    Audio-Sync: Problem Solved

    • Written by from Freeport

It's because you either have a codec installed that causes issues with it or because you didn't set up the settings correctly, make sure you put the right frame rate in and nothings wrong with this, it's great product, I hope elgato comes out with a new version soon. I am going to buy this and the new elgato tv product :)

    Audio Issues

    • Written by from Rio Linda

Like others I will be returning this product.

Although it works as advertised (speed) it has some major flaws in the audio dept.

The syncing issues are all over the place and very inconsistent. I can encode the movie 4 times with the same settings and get different results. and having to re encode a movie ONCE kind of defeats the purpose of the device. If I have to encode more than once the speed difference has been taken away. Sometimes its just better to wait.. Speed kills. :)

    Waste of money

    • Written by from San Jose

This product does exactly what it says on the box; it makes AppleTV format movies in a very short time. The issue is, they're unwatchable. I've ripped 15 movies in the last 10 hours, and not one of them has the audio in sync with the image.

From a quick google search, it seems that if you're converting AVI/DIVX to MP4, this product, is not for you.

I'll be returning mine to the store later today.

Files Are All Out Of Sync

    • Written by from Ventura

This product is a joke ... most of the files generated using this product have audio that is completely out of sync and are unwatchable. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

    Outstanding Product

    • Written by from Chula Vista

As previous reviews say, the Turbo.264 HD does exactly as advertised. I was able to encode an EyeTV recording of a hour-long TV show in 13 minutes instead of 40 minutes on my Mac Pro Quad 2.66. I highly recommend this to anyone that needs to convert video files fast!

This is a great companion to the Mac and until the time Apple builds a coprocessor like this into new consumer based Mac's I will look to Elgato for products like this.

Serious Voice Sync problem - Worthless product

    • Written by from Hong Kong

This product has serious voice sync problem when converting VOB files to MP4. So far Elgato programmers have not been able to solve this problem; There is no sync problems with converting TS files to MP4, but there is a stability problem with the Elgato software itself. It crashs 40% of the time when I drag the TS files to Elgato software window. Sometimes it simply freezes, and requires a "force quit". At other times, it treats the TS files as an unrecognized format.

    I'm Speechless

    • Written by from Scarborough

WOW, On my Unibody MacBook Pro, this thing converts a 700MB .avi file to AppleTV format at nearly 5 times the speed of Quicktime with no loss in quality whatsoever while keeping my MacBook's CPU at ~50%, and the fans only at 2000rpm. I'd recommend this device for anyone who find themselves converting video. It is well worth the price tag!!

Great speed and decent quality, but....

    • Written by from EGGEDAL

This gadget is great for some tasks, but not so great for others. If you got a high quality AVCHD HD camera, like for example Sony HDR-TG7VE and you are thinking about using it together with this encoder, forget about it. The end quality is just way too low nomatter what setting you use. (I might be picky, but my eyes sees major loss of quality thats for sure) If you use AVCHD cameras, i recommend storing the clips in their original AVCHD format since AVCHD original format does not get bigger than this gadgets max settings anyway. Also, I recommend the software "RevolverHD" instead for use with AVCHD if you want to burn blu-ray compatible DVDs in a flash. Nevertheless, this gadget is great for all other purposes tho, except from AVCHD.

My only gripe is the software update mechanism, new downloads can only be accessed through the application itself so don't lose your install CD!

    Turbo.264

    • Written by from Hobe Sound

During a One on One session, I bought this on the recommendation of my Trainer. It is awesome! I first used it on my 15" Mac Book Pro. While rendering a video, I checked my CPU usage with iStat. My Mac Book Pro wasn't even working hard. I could surf the net, work in iMovie without any problems. I would recommend this product to anyone.

    Unbelievably fast!

    • Written by

I use this to convert movies (VIDEO_TS format) to Apple TV format. On my MacBook Pro it does this conversion three to four times faster than realtime! It's amazing.

And I love being able to convert clips directly from my Panasonic HD camcorder.
