    Cloudy Keys

    • Written by from Salem

I bought this keyboard protector soon after I bought my new mac. I have a macbook pro 13" retina display and the protector fits it perfectly. It takes some adjusting, but when you are used to the feel, typing becomes easy. When I first put it on you could hardly tell that it was there. However, after a while it saturated to look cloudy on the keys, very sloppy. I tried washing it with soap and water, but it still has that cloudy residue. Overall I am really upset with the quality of this product.

    Moshi ClearGuard is Ok

    • Written by from Knoxville

I purchased this keyboard cover to protect my keys against my fingers. It does a great job protecting the keys, but I do not like how the protector gets really dirty and smudged. Also when you close the lid your fingerprints appear on the screen. Very annoying. I have tried to clean the Moshi Clearguard but it doesn't really help.

    Underwhelmed

    • Written by from toronto

Bought this product because i heard good reviews about it. However, after trying it out myself on my MBC Retina, I feel this product was WAY overrated. For one, I feel like it's not a perfect fit and can come off easily. As a result, I feel like I can "trip" while typing. Second, it just doesn't feel good typing on this thing. This is a personal preference of course but i disagree with those people who say they barely feel it. In fact, it is VERY noticeable. Aesthetically though it is appealing. And I don't doubt the longevity of this keyboard protector. However, it is not what I was looking for as it does not stay on well on my MBC Retina, nor does it feel comfortable.

    Try Thicker Silicone Before This

    • Written by from Cincinnati

I bought my first Mac about three weeks ago. Along with it I purchased this keyboard cover.

It is certainly not what I had expected. Yes, it conforms to the keyboard and, when not in use, is barely noticeable. But with every keystroke a large portin of the cover shifts, causing my fingers to get tangled up and "trip" over the guard. A friend of mine has thicker silicone one which does not cause this same problem. Needless to say I have purchased a silicone cover for around $3 on eBay. It has yet to arrive; I remain optimistic. For $3, try the thicker silicone cover before this one.

I feel that this cover would protect against dust, humidity and the occasional misdirected sneeze. In no way should you expect it to protect against a spilled Coke as the borders of the guard are easily undermined.

    I hope that this helps.

    moves when you type

I wonder why most people give this a 5 star, this thing is a bit loose and moves when you type. I can't even play using this.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from Montreal

I bought this product hoping that it would protect from any spills. It is thin, looks almost invisible but it does not serve its function as a protection against spills (dust, maybe). Sometimes when you type it sticks to your fingers so the whole thing just comes off.
What a waste of money, now I would need to buy another product, may be a little bit heavier so it does not move when you type.

    works great-difficult to clean

    • Written by from Anaheim Hills

i purchased this because it looked very promising in the photos on apple. as soon as i got it, it has a slightly loose fit. the only problem was i only had it for about 4 months and it started to get very cloudly and the translucent look on the silicone was going away. i tried washing it coz i thought it was grease and it got a lot worse.

    Good, but hard to clean

    • Written by from Hoffman Estates

I bought this protector when I ordered my 2010 MBP. Overall it's a good keyboard protector, but is very difficult to clean. I have naturally oily hands, so the protector got smudged up pretty quickly. Water alone does not remove the grease. Using a grease-cutting dishsoap like Dawn did very little to help. Since washing, the keyboard protector now has a very washed-out look, like a salted road in the winter.

    Beware of LCD Screen imprinting

    • Written by from Durham

Nice product but avoid closing your clamshell with ANY silicone keyboard cover because the key squares will imprint onto your LCD and leave square marks.

Place it during use BUT remove it when closing your clamshell. The older versions of Aluminum MacBook Pro (pre-UniBody design) flexes inward - especially when jamming your notebook into your computer bag and will press against the keyboard covers making contact with the LCD. Once those imprints are worn into your LCD screen, they are permanently there for your viewing dis-pleasure for the life of your screen.

Side note: will help lessen the damage for you Liquid Spill prone users.

    Doesn't fit

    • Written by from Melbourne

I'd heard good things about this case, but when I actually bought it, I was disappointed. I bought it for my Macbook Pro, and it doesn't fit very well. Every time I type, it lifts up and there is more dirt underneath it now then there was before.

    It doesn't even stay on.

Honestly? It kinda stinks, but you should still buy it.

    • Written by from Kansas City

    1. Sits loosely on the keyboard - nothing to hold it in place, so if you type as fast as I do, you will end up needing to readjust after a few minutes...by that, I mean just run your hand across the keyboard to smooth it out. Not a huge issue, but it is there.

    2. More opaque than photo shows. It looks like exactly what it is...a plastic rubbery thingy flopping around on my keyboard.

    3. Doesn't really lay flat - you can always see a good 1/8" of space between the top row of keys and this protector. This is the main reason why this product is so unsightly. If it really would lie flat, you wouldn't be able to see it quite so much.

    4. It ain't all that thin. That doesn't seem to affect the function, so I wouldn't bring it up if they weren't touting it in their advertising. That said, it definitely feels awkward, especially when it starts lifting up under my fingers.

    5. This product is a necessary evil - If Apple could make their keyboard keys out of a halfway decent material, I wouldn't need this stupid thing.

I'm extremely irritated that my MacBook Pro's keys started showing wear after 5 days of use...that said, I still love the MacBook Pro and recommend it to everyone.

its cool, unless you hover over your keyboard like me.

    • Written by from MISSOURI CITY

I bought this item because of the positive reviews. For what you get, it is extremely expensive. It is basically just a thin piece of elastic plastic. The packaging is very nice, and I would be willing to bet that the package costs the manufacturer more to make than the unit itself. It has several problems. First of all, I am using it on a 17" macbook pro. Although they say that it fits this unit, I can tell you that it was definitely not designed for it. The edges of the unit go past the recessed keyboard area, so the unit is constantly slipping off, because the plastic hovers over the top of the keys rather than sit on them. The top function keys are not a perfect fit, and the unit slips off whenever I press the delete key. I am thinking of trimming the edges of the unit with an Xacto blade so that the unit will sit on top of the keys, rather than hover... hopefully this will help cure the slipping, which is extremely annoying.
