    Disappointing Product!!

    • Written by from Huntersville

Not difficult to install software but once installed the program is not as user friendly as NeatReceipts would like for you to think. Even though the software is installed it recognizes data on your computer does not seem to recognize the scanner to scan documents, cards etc in which is the reason for purchasing the NeatReceipts. I have had to force quit a lot. Support for the product is extremely limited! The NeatReceipts website has some FAQ's but it spends too much time saying how it can help organize your life but not enough time on telling you what to do when things do not work correctly. When you call NeatReceipts they want to sell you more stuff. It is an expensive piece of equiptment that does not work well. Useless!

It works well at times, but when it has a receipt format that it doesn't know it freaks out. I'd rather it just leave it blank than fill in what it thinks.

    Wow.....what an waste

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

Hardware is great, but you can tell that the sales folks have WAY to much of a say at this Idiot Ranch. Software updates can only be access though an account that tries to sell you every service in the world but never lets you get to an update of the software. Fascinating. The great news is that one simple sledge hammer allowed me to correct the problem. Expensive therapy, but here is the bottom line. DON"T BUY IT. The hardware component is decent when it works.....but the software is so buggy and riddled with silly updates tied to accounts so they can sell you x, y and z that it is not worth the aggravation. So fellow Apple users of the world heed all of these reviews about this incredibly bad product.

    Huge waste of time!

    • Written by from Marlton

Awesome concept if it actually did what it was supposed to do. After you scan, you have to put some of the information in manually because it didn't read it right or read it at all so you spend a ton of time on each receipt to put the correct info in so your doing half of the work that the machine is supposed to be doing for you! 2 hours later and I got five receipts in! This was supposed to save time and energy and I just wasted valuable time for nothing. Not happy!

    Tough to use.

I'm no techie, nor am I a neophyte, but I find this scanner to be an overpriced pain in the a**. It is totally non-intuitive, often opens on a page with no obviously discernible way to get out of it. NOT recommended!

I'm an IT engineer. I run a business where I need to scan checks and receipts. I spend more time changing settings and troubleshooting that producing. Please stay away from it.

    Nice concept does not deliver

    • Written by from Vadnais Heights

I have had Neat for just over a year. I have spent more time trouble shooting than actually using the machine productively. It is just one bug after the other. It doesn't scan receipts, it doesn't sync. The files are easily corrupted and shut down the program.
Bottom line, I am going back to my old paper filing system. In the end, I know where to find the receipts and I don't have to worry about not being unable to retrieve when needed.

    Broke after 14 months

    • Written by from Chesterfield

I like the portability, but that was it. Small receipts and business cards were tricky at times. They would pull through at angles and bunch up on the sides.

I could not figure out the software. It did not seem intuitive at all. Seemed like they tried too hard to do too much, so nothing was simple.

After 14 months the scanner no longer scans. Documents go through it, and it sound like it is scanning, but my computer just says no image.

    Over experience was disappointing.

Works as well as I'd hoped

Lots of negatives in the reviews here...can't say I understand why, though. I think it may have to do with expectations. I'm a Mac/Tech junkie...but I know that I need to be realistic with any tech product, especially ones that may not be user friendly, or at least not as perfectly user friendly as we would like. Some things take a little time and effort to get to know the product. Try thinking about the genius who invented the product...and then think of him again trying to break it down so the average person can understand it! Ask yourself what it is you want the product to do for you. And the answer can't be "what the box says" because the box says a lot of things. I guess I'm saying that if you buy something that doesn't do what YOU want it to do, it doesn't mean other people feel the same way. I just started using it and I'm quite happy so far. I mean, I wanted a product that I could import all my receipts for business. Well, right out of the box this thing scans, categorizes, and puts it into the folder I tell it to. This is what I wanted it to do, mainly. I know there's more to it and after a little while, I'll get it! Give it shot. Deep breath and remember...still made by a human, which means there is always the potential for failure.

Wasting so much time with this thing

    • Written by from Stony Brook

I agree with the negative reviews. The Neat scanner is overhyped and does not live up to advertising claims. It frequently hangs up during the "analyzing" process prompting me to have to follow tech support's advice to go into Mac library to delete files, recreate folders, do app reload, etc. Have to calibrate frequently. When it does analyze, the character recognition is terrible, even on document types that it's read previously. All in all, I have wasted far too much time & money and wish I would have chosen differently. Cannot in good conscience recommend this for purchase.

It seems to work for me

    • Written by from bear

I am stunned by all of the negative comments on this product. However, I probably only use mine once per month so may not be the best source of feedback. Having said that, it does in fact "hang" and forces me to reboot periodically. Annoying but not a deal breaker. You do have to use some care in feeding your documents or you will get an unreadable image. Again, annoying but not tragic. I have not had any reason to call NEAT for support but I assume they are horrible given the other reviews. I will say that the one thing I haven't figured out yet is how to alphabetize my file cabinet. It appears that I am expected to do this manually. I assumed that there would be one button for this but I haven't found it yet. I have used the product for a year not and still haven't been able to figure that one out. Given all of that, I have in fact ended the life long habit of having boxes and boxes of receipts sitting at my home. That in itself made this a worth while purchase. 3 out of 5 stars since it does fail at times but I am glad I bought it

After 6 years of use, this a 1 star at best product

    • Written by from tampa

I purchased neat receipts in 2008 and have invested time and money to make it work; but, I am now using it to just dump and store. Here are my chief issues:
The Support is seriously lacking, they truly do not know customer support, and pass the buck to someone else.
The software updates are buggy - right now, the software gets stuck at the 'analyzing' and 'working' stages - you have to force quit the application, then open to get things done.
Creating custom reports - forget it! it is not worth the trouble - save yourself time and don't even bother with this.
Lastly, the user community has provided great ideas, and I yet to see them implement any of those salient ideas.
I just finally decided to look at some other piece of application.
lastly, don't buy from the kiosk at airport - they are not knowledgeable enough to understand the needs of a road warrior, and they just say 'yes' it does it.. Trust me.. NO NO NO.. if your a mac user, avoid it.. save yourself 6 years of work arounds ..

Great... Only When It Works (Buyer Beware)

    • Written by from Markham

    - Inferior scanner compared to ScanSnap S1500
    - First NeatDesk (brand new) ordered from Neat.com - defective after few months; ADF no longer works so you need to "babysit" the scanning process, contacted Technical Support and after going through dozens of emails doing the same troubleshoot, they finally sent a refurbished scanner
    - Refurbished scanner from Neat.com Warranty - dead on arrival; scan image is not usable; now going through the same tedious process with Technical Support

    - Windows - frequently crashed
    - Mac - always hangs; does not "analyze" the scans, does not "auto-fill" the fields; may need to use it under Windows in bootcamp/virtual machine

Scanner works.... ok.... most of the time... however CONSTANTLY needs re-calibrating. The software on the other hand is the worst piece of KRRAP I have on my system (and I have a TON of software).

I has been over 10 minutes since I tried to launch the soft. and it is still loading. This happens all the time. Also, the software tries to access internet every time you launch and further delays the launch. I am really pizzed off that I paid so much for this and I spend half the time fighting with the software just to launch!

I had time to do a google search, read this forum and write this review and the software is still "loading". If the software engineer was close by I would SLAP HIM!

The software finally launched after 15 MINUTES!!!! (it took me that long to finish my review because I had to "clean it up" ha ha)

I am running version 4.0.3 and have a yearly subscription to neat cloud which is worthless since the software crashes-constantly! My scanner works fine, but is absolutely worthless with the software. Wish it worked as claimed.

    Pleasantly Happy with NeatReceipts

    • Written by from KEARNEY

I was very skeptical on buying the NeatReceipts because of all the bad reviews that I have read. It had my curiosity up so I went ahead and bought it. I was told I could return it in 14 days if I didn't like it. The software was easy to load. The scanning works well for me. I will admit, a couple of times, I've had to rescan because the paper went in crooked. I've learned you have to wait till it grabs the paper. It scans very fast for me and I have not had any problems with the slowness of the software. Depending on the receipts, ( I have several invoices that have many dates on them), I might have to correct the date. I have to say that I am pleasantly happy with the product and I am glad that I bought it.

    Terrible Software

    • Written by from Jessup

I agree with the other recent negative posts. I just recently got a Neat scanner to try to cut down on paper in my office. I typically leave my computer on in sleep mode and everyday I need to kill the Neat software and unplug the machine to get it to communicate. Very often I have to reboot my entire MAC to get it to work. This is horrible!

    Horrible, do not buy!

    • Written by from PORTLAND

This is the worst piece of equipment that I have purchased in a while. I'm getting ready to go buy a new scanner because this one is just useless. Especially ever since the last "update". It can never get the type of document right. It takes forever to do anything, especially once it has a few receipts saved. It scans fast but then it takes FOREVER to classify the type of document and in the meanwhile it doesn't let you do anything else! you have to wait until it has finished classifying the scans to move on. If you have nothing to do and can sit around for hours just to scan a few documents then this is for you!

    This software is inconsistent.

    • Written by from Tacoma

The "Analyzing" process in the software version 4.0.3 (403153) is taking forever. It used to let you scan one page after another. I'm behind a stack of paper now and I feel like I now need to wait until the next version of the software to be able to scan again. I can't go back to an older version of the software, because the 4.0.3 software asked me to upgrade my database. The older version won't read my new database. Aarrrgh! Frustrating.

    Software buggy.

    • Written by from MONTEREY

The software is buggy, constantly hangs (not responding) or quits, hardware is not upgradeable. Some of the document limits (size or length) are not realistic to the real world. (Programmers must be living in a bubble) Sometimes it recognizes a document (receipt) the next time the same document from the same company/store it does not recognize.
