    Great for what is important

For those who gave poor reviews for this product need to remember what its main purpose is...RECEIPTS...not business cards...even though you can do them. I am a self-employed contractor and I have a need to record all my reciepts for accounting to pay me, and for taxes. It saves so much time and hassle of not keeping a file cabinet in my house and losing receipts while traveling. It's very easy to lose important receipts, so its a life saver for me. While its true that you need to feed it right so it doesnt appear crooked, the software can adjust it automatically...blame that on user error not on the product. For those who need to keep records of receipts this is the best thing out there!

    Best solution I've ever seen

I bought this to reduce the boxes of paper receipts needed for IRS, and am pretty well pleased with it. After a false start trying to scan face-up and getting nowhere, I spotted the instruction indicating the documents should be scanned face-down. All subsequent scans came in great, were automatically recognized as receipts and the fields were mostly filled in properly. The OCR did better than I expected in analyzing crumpled, long, narrow receipts, despite their tendency to skew. I dropped the rating from 5 to 4 stars because the default fields can't be configured the way I wanted, but for the most part the software did all I wanted it to. The score: although the first receipt took 15 minutes due to my error, the next 12 receipts took less than 7 minutes, and I was able to export the results as a CSV file for importing into Numbers in less than a minute after that. This review is based on NeatWorks v2.1.9 for Mac.

Great hardware - need better software

The scanner works very well and is very portable. It's great for scanning documents as well. I would like to see better software integration in the future. Neat should allow an open-ended option of scanning documents to file. Of course there is an export function, but the multiple steps seem unnecessary. Sometimes connection drops, but the scanner is pretty much plug-and-play. Great product nonetheless!

    Pleasantly Happy with NeatReceipts

    • Written by from KEARNEY

I was very skeptical on buying the NeatReceipts because of all the bad reviews that I have read. It had my curiosity up so I went ahead and bought it. I was told I could return it in 14 days if I didn't like it. The software was easy to load. The scanning works well for me. I will admit, a couple of times, I've had to rescan because the paper went in crooked. I've learned you have to wait till it grabs the paper. It scans very fast for me and I have not had any problems with the slowness of the software. Depending on the receipts, ( I have several invoices that have many dates on them), I might have to correct the date. I have to say that I am pleasantly happy with the product and I am glad that I bought it.

Works as well as I'd hoped

Lots of negatives in the reviews here...can't say I understand why, though. I think it may have to do with expectations. I'm a Mac/Tech junkie...but I know that I need to be realistic with any tech product, especially ones that may not be user friendly, or at least not as perfectly user friendly as we would like. Some things take a little time and effort to get to know the product. Try thinking about the genius who invented the product...and then think of him again trying to break it down so the average person can understand it! Ask yourself what it is you want the product to do for you. And the answer can't be "what the box says" because the box says a lot of things. I guess I'm saying that if you buy something that doesn't do what YOU want it to do, it doesn't mean other people feel the same way. I just started using it and I'm quite happy so far. I mean, I wanted a product that I could import all my receipts for business. Well, right out of the box this thing scans, categorizes, and puts it into the folder I tell it to. This is what I wanted it to do, mainly. I know there's more to it and after a little while, I'll get it! Give it shot. Deep breath and remember...still made by a human, which means there is always the potential for failure.
