    Annoying volume reset feature

I find the sound quality of this unit to be quite good but the thing Im finding annoying is that whenever I stop using it for more than 20 minutes the volume automatically resets itself to 0. I have my Airport Express connected to the Auxiliary port in the back to play music wirelessly using Airplay and any time I connect to the Sounddock I have to find the remote to turn the volume up. Its quite frustrating as I purchased this unit mainly to play music through Airplay and I would like to keep the volume on the speakers at something louder than it currently sets itself to every time.

I was planning to buy a Bose speaker for a long time and this one fits right in to my budget and apt for listening to music. If you are having a party and you can satisfy everyone by playing their own songs in their iPod or iPhone. On top of it you connect your TV or any other device through aux

Fantastic once I got it working

Opened the box, plugged it in , sat my iPhone 4 in the cradle. Nothing. Very unhappy indeed. Phone would charge if I fiddled it around a bit, but would only play music through the system if I pushed it down reall hard. Was I cheesed off or what. Played fine when connected via the aux cable, but not what I wanted of course.

Spent ages googling and reading, couldnt find an answer, then I half remembered a comment from somewhere about another iPod dock where the writer mentioned cleaning out bits from the inside of his (or her's) iPod 30 pin connector. So out came a needle, 2 minutes of gentle scraping and probing in the 30 pin socket on the iPhone, 18 months half a ton of accumulated fluff extraction later and it all works perfectly and sounds fantastic... Suitably impressed, especially as I scored the Bose sound dock with my Amex reward points.... Been listening to some led zeppelin, some thievery corporation and now some pink floyd as I write. All sound awesome. Will try some Mozart later.

very good sound, poor quality desing

the sound is fantastic, no doubt. the device is worth the money.
However, at this price the connection dock should have been a bit more solid. both my 3G and 4 are difficult to dock and sometimes don't charge. try the B&O device and it is rock solid.

i have the portable unit, which is great, but half the times when i take the unit with me, I forget the remote. unbelievable that the folks at Bose did not think of a slot to insert the remote in or some other way to assure the owner brings it with. so for sound 5 stars, for design 1.

Bose Quality, Fills yard with sound

I bought this system to replace my cheaper system that broke over the summer last year (one of the Costco TEAC ones) that was good, but I knew from experience that Bose was better. The minute I compared it at the Apple Store, I KNEW this was my next system!

The bass is deep, but not overwhelming like some other brands. The mids and highs play nice as well.

What's kind of neat is I guess they use a digital "sound manipulation" process that allows you to have your system on MAX volume (I personally never have) and yet have virtually no distortion. This process also allows you to use the EQ's on your iPod, or even Bose just suggests turning them off.

What I LOVE is that I can fill my house, my 9,000 sq ft yard, and more, with this little system, and not even have it at full volume and it still sounds AMAZING!

Okay so i just bought this today as a early Christmas gift for myself as i have wanted one of these for a while. I just got home and started to listen to Christmas tunes and wow this is how music should sound. I really believe the fact that you pay for what you get and with Bose that is 100% correct. Superb sound and with the Addition of the Aux cable its amazing you can use other audio sources other than your iPod. Now there are some mixed things about the iPod touch 4th Gen working on this and i can tell you that it works fine and is fully functional, Even on the Bose website it has it a compatible. So if your looking for a great sound dock Bose is the Superb choice. I Love it ! I would recommend it to anyone.

Bose has once again gone above and beyond in my opinion. I held out for three months before I took the plunge and bought the SoundDock II. I was hesitant because of the price ($299.00); however, with the system being marked down $50.00, I couldn't resist any longer. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The sound produced from this small system is perfection. As Bose puts it, "We strive to avoid flashy sounds such as those associated with accentuated bass and/or treble frequencies. While those sounds may be initially attractive to the novice, they are not real and are not enduring." I can't get over how the sound is so clear and has perfect bass and treble no matter the volume level. If you've been on the fence, and have debated about buying this system, now is the time! You won't regret it.

I lost my Altec Lansing IM7 Speaker (Tube) after 5 great years of service. I will miss you so :-(

I spent most of the day going from retailer to retailer ultimately looking for ANY system I could find compatible with my iPhone 4 and that could live up to my Altec Lansing system. After hours of testing, the Bose Series II was a clear winner. It made the decision all that easier when I found it on sale for $30 less than retail. I used the system outdoors in a pool setting and it sounds great! Furthermore, I can control Pandora using the remote control that comes with the speakers. By the way, for those of you looking for a system with adjustable bass/treble or an equalizer (this system does not have), the settings in your iPod or iPhone work quite well through these speakers.

This system has gone a long way to help cope with the loss of my Altec Lansings. Definitely worth the price.

I have read and heard about the much vaunted Bose sound for years but always discounted it as marketing hyperbole. After all, "how much better can it be for all that money?" Well, it can be so much better that it makes it well worth the cost ... and THAT is how much better it is. I actually went to the Apple store to test various players side-by-side so I could see for myself. I took my iPhone 4 and plugged it into one system and then the next, playing the same selection of music on each one. I saved the Bose for last because I didn't expect to actually be that good. When I plugged into the Bose, I was BLOWN AWAY! I stood and listened to it for a half hour, playing one selection after another ... it was so sweet. Yes, it is well worth the added cost ... and more.

When I got this system first, it was working fine with itouch 4G and then it suddenly stopped playing music. Sent that for service, came back with same problem. Sent back again, the new system came in today but still won't work with itouch. It is charging the itouch...so I got a $299 charging station :-( I suspect there is compatability issue with new itouch and it's hit and miss with the Bose sound dock II !!!

    Amazing Sound Quality

Took it out of the box, plugged it in, docked my ipod, listened to great sound. That simple, that good. Anyone complaining about quality is just the odd 1-10,000 bad electronics in the manufacturing process. Bose does the absolute best in sound quality for small, easy-to-use devices. I have bought other docking stations and not a single one can compare. Buy cheap, get cheap sound and components. I equate it to the mindless drones that continue to buy cheap laptops from HP, only to have them crash from software (MS), or very cheap components.

Think about it. You bought an Apple device because of its superior function, build and ease-of-use. That's why Apple sells the Bose system on its site, and why it is the most expensive one they sell. Consider it the 17" macbook pro of docking stations.

SoundDock Series II system is NOT compatible with iPod touch 4G

    • Written by from New Delhi

Bose website clearly states that their iPod docking station Sounddock Series - II is compatible with iPod Touch 32 GB (see link iPod compatible models in the second FAQ). I bought this system with the same belief and when I got it home and tried inserting the iPod in the dock, I realized that the iPod just wouldn't dock !

On calling their service center I was assured that the system and iPod touch are very much compatible and that I should get the system to their service center. Probably I was doing something wrong. I took the system to the service center and there the technicians themselves tried to dock the iPod but even they were unable to. After this they very coolly said -'Sorry, it seems that these are not compatible'. !!

From what it seems that BOSE did not take the pain to test the new iPod 4th Generation iPod touch with its systems and have just mentioned it on their website so that people can buy their systems. And after that whether the system works or does not work for the customer is of no concern to them. This is the worst kind of customer service I have ever seen and this coming from Bose systems is very surprising and disappointing

Got these speakers for Christmas. Great product. Remote wasn't working for my 3Gs the first time so I just took it off and docked it again; worked fine after that. Anyone who gave it a bad review seems to have a faulty Sounddock so I guess it's luck of the draw with these. You just have to toy around with it. The bass was disappointing but i don't listen to hip hop very often so I'm not complaining.

The quality of sound is amazing, however I have had this about a year and a half and the dock has a short in it. The Ipod has to be sitting just perfectly to work, and then it will usually short out again and have to be adjusted. Be very gentle when docking and undocking to not flex the female insert. It won't last long if you do. I now have an almost unusable piece of equipment.

iPod Touch g4 is compatible with Bose Sound Dock Series II

iPod Touch g4 is compatible with Bose Sound Dock Series II.

I just purchased an iPod Touch g4 and Bose Sound Dock Series II. At first, my iPod Touch g4 didn't charge or even play on my Sound Dock Series II (though it did play music from my iPod Nano g3).

I called Bose tech support. The tech rep told me that the two components are compatible. After a couple of troubleshooting steps, he told me to remove the dish shaped plastic adapter that comes installed and surrounds the male connector below the speakers on the front of the Sound Dock (the plastic adapter was easy to pop out with a butter knife).

Once the adapter was removed, I reinstalled my iPod Touch g4. Without the adapter, the iPod Touch g4 set onto the male connector much better. As soon as it was installed, a chirp sound came out of the Sound Dock speakers, which the tech rep said indicated that the iPod Touch g4 started charging. I hit play on the iPod and the music came pouring out from the Sound Dock speakers. It works and sounds great!

Though my iPod Touch g4 is currently connected to the Sound Dock without an adapter, the Bose tech support person told me that he will be sending a new adapter to accomodate the iPod Touch g4 for no charge. Excellent service and support Bose!!!!
