Yes, poorly made and outrageously expensive, but get them anyway.

    Written by ER from Gainesville

If you are reading this review, you are actually considering spending $300 on a pair of headphones. That right there says headphones are a BIG deal to you. Me too. So what exactly is it you look for in a pair of headphones? I'll tell you what I DON'T look for. I don't look for "value." I'm not buying a hammer at Home Depot. When it comes to headphones, I’m tinkering with my whole world of music! When I shop for stereo equipment, I shop with my heart, not my head.

In headphones, there are only two things I get serious about. Sound and comfort. Simple as that. All other factors I can compromise on. Beats by Dr. Dre headphones have comfort and sound locked down.

You've read all these other reviews. That many people cannot be wrong about the fantastic sound. I doubt you have heard anything like them. And almost everyone finds them extremely comfortable, as do I.

Lots of people complain about the poor construction... cracks in the headpiece and so forth. Those people aren't making it up. The truth is that these headphones, for all their sexy looks, are manufactured with the cheapest imaginable feel. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if mine cracked. Don’t kid yourself; you will be shocked at how crummy the build quality is. But.... guess what.... I am willing to overlook how poorly they are made.

These headphones expose your own weaknesses... that you will put up with all this abuse, financial and poor quality construction... just to get such a great sound and great comfort. Monster completely has my number. It's embarrassing, but I love these headphones. Try them if you dare.

    Great Headphones and comfort

    Written by EH from Columbia

I got these headphones for sale on Black Friday, taking advantage of a $71 discount. The headphones sound amazing, and I'm going back listening to all of my music. Every album has a little note or sound you never picked up on before that you can now hear with the Beats. The overall sound is superb. I've never owned any other high(er) end headphones but comparing them with the stock iPhone buds is like comparing a racecar to a prius.

I bought the black, not only because it was the last model available, but I like the black to match my existing black iPhone. I thought the white ones would only enhance my honky-ness and detract from the overall elegance of the headphones. I love the over ear aspect the cups, as I work at as CSR answering phone calls, its just plain uncomfortable to wear headphones that are ON EAR for 8 hours a day. The comfort level was a must for me and the Beats deliver. The cups fit snug over my ears and after 2 hours of straight listening, I had no discomfort what-so-ever. The size of the headphones might have you think they are large and bulky, evening sporting 2 AAA batteries, but they are not. They are balanced and did not flip and flop off my head at all since I got them. I even use them while I play drums and have not any problems when I get into the music and bob my head.

The noise canceling works really well. For those who are thinking of purchasing these for flights, train travels, etc. I'd highly recommend you look into these over the Solos. The active noise canceling is noticeable when you flip off the power, or just hold the 'mute' button. I really went with these over Bose because of the in-line mic for my iPhone. I wish there were more options for over ear headphones with the mic built in, but sadly there's not. The Beats, however, are a great offering to fill that need.

Overall they have solid sound, great comfort and stylish looks. I only gave it a 4/5 star rating because of the price. I got them on sale for 229.99 and I still think that's a lot for 'phones but maybe I'm cheap.

Well, I bought these headphone... For actually I bought the sound. It does better 999999x than the other headphones ever!

But, even the earcups really soft, it's still hurt my ear parts. And, I tried to pull out the earcups and suddenly it's spread ********************* erm, buzzing noise I meant... It's really hurt my ears =/

    Amazing Sound Quality

Love these headphones. The bass is incredible and they're very comfortable. My only complaint is that they have minor sound leakage. Fortunately, I have great taste in music, so I look at it as more of a benefit for those around me. Well worth the money and at least as good as my previous pair (Bose) of over ear headphones.

These headphones are good but not great. They give you really really really good bass, have I said really good already? Well anyways some problems i had was that they leak the music, in other words people can hear what you're hearing. They are also not "true" noise cancelling headphones. That being said I'm going to return these for the Bose QC15. There are some draw back such as not have the awesome feature to change song, answer phone calls from the built in remote or pausing songs.

Excellent sound, function, and style, but expensive

Written by JG from Castro Valley

Don't listen to the snobs. The Beats by Dr. Dre provide excellent sound. They compare favorably with the justly-legendary Koss PortaPro headphones; perhaps some might consider they sound slightly better, considering their isolation and depth of timbre. Add to the fact that their noise cancelation excises most steady, droning noise (fans, air conditioning, engine sounds) and their exquisite design, and you have a great audio and fashion accessory to your iPod or iPhone. With its supplied mic-enabled cable, it becomes a usable iPhone headset, which the 25-year-old classic Koss pair can't offer.

The Koss PortaPros come with a lifetime no-questions asked warranty and cost around $50. The Beats by Dr. Dre come with a 3-year limited warranty and cost $300.

I'm keeping my Beats and I'm quite happy with them. They make me enjoy my music collection (not a lot of hip-hop or R&B in it either) more than ever, and I love the utility of the mic cable for my iPhone. But let's not pretend these aren't as much a statement of conspicuous consumption as a piece of audio equipment. You'd buy Beats for the reason you'd buy a MacBook Air.

These headphones are amazing. The bass is incredible and they are very comfy. The only thing i found is that in tight quiet areas
they leak noise. The other thing i love about these headphones is that they are great looking. finally no more of that black and grey like bose .

The Greatest Sound Quality! Not so good frame!

Written by AR from San Pedro

    Oct 1, 2009

Initially as you will hear from others the sound quality on these headphones are off the chart!! The treble is clear and the bass is nothing less of perfect, It will practically rattle your head. Outside sound is no where to be heard, believe you won't be able to hear yourself think. The comfort is on point with its ability to adjust to any size head and the look is flawless. However, the durability of these head phones will disappoint you. The frame seems too flimsy and in just three weeks they snapped near the hinge of the fold panel. That should not be expected when paying over $300 for headphones. My advice is, sound quality and comfort, you won't find anything better. Sturdiness look elsewhere. If you have the money to blow, buy them, you'll love them from the first second you get them. However, if you don't, look for cheaper headphones.

    Absolutely awesome.

I've had these headphones for about 6 months now and they are absolutely incredible. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. It's so incredible that I've actually heard things that I didnt even know were in the song. The noise canceling is ridiculous. I wear these when I mow my lawn and not only do I still hear every single note, but they are comfortable to wear for an extended amount of time. The only problem I have with them is the left ear cup is sorta coming off and I take extremely good care of them.
Overall these are the best headphones I've ever had of wrapping around my ears.

    Excellent cans !

    Written by ES from Washington

I was doubtful about these headphones, specially after I read the review that warns about buying audio equipment using a celebrity name, to which I honestly agreed. Well, believe me, I own a pair of high-end Sennheiser HD650 headphones and after buying and listening for some time to the Beats by Dr. Dre, I can tell you the sound of both headphones really compete against each other. The great advantage of the Beats by Dr. Dre is that because of their low impedance, they are very efficient and do not require a high power amplifier to sound great, just as it happens with high-end headphones like the Sennheiser HD650 or similar. For this reason, the Beats by Dr. Dre sound great even with portables like iPods, computers or Walkmans (I suggest the new X Series). The bass is powerful and you can feel it in your ears and the mids and highs are clear and shiny. My respect to Dr. Dre and Monster for this great product. Of course they are not cheap, and will cost more than your iPod, but if you have the money and really want to improve its sound quality, don't doubt about buying it.

    Decide for Yourself

Written by CM from East Hampton

Listen, I own the BOSE QC3 noise-canceling headphones and I love them. However, after watching a number of video reviews of Dr. Dre's Monster Beats and reading a number of reviews posted here, I decided I needed to make my own decision. I have spent the past few hours listening to my iTunes Library on both my iPod and my Macbook and I have to say that there is a great deal of merit in the reviews I read. First, the build quality could be a little sturdier. As soon as I unboxed these 'phones I knew I was going to have to handle them carefully if I wanted them to retain their mint appearance. (So that costs a star). However, I have to say that the depth of sound, the dimensionality of the music in my library, is greatly enhanced by these headphones--exceeding the range of my beloved QC3's. Also, whoever said that the noise-canceling features of these headphones is absent must possess some form of genetic sonar. My experience is that the external world utterly recedes while music is playing on these inescapably stylish cans. Expensive? Yes. Quality? The construction deserved more attention but the sound definitely delivers.

Almost perfect, highly recommended for avid music lovers

    Written by JP from Oakville

Although a tad pricey these are phenomenal headphones. they wont seem that great for people who dont care to much about listening to broad ranges of music but i listen to music almost all day long and DJ as well so the price is justifiable. they are very balanced with lows, mids, and highs and the sound isolation works perfectly. My dad has the Bose QC3's and i find these a tad better but the sound leakage out of the beats are absolutely terrible. not an issue for me but if your on a quite train, bus, etc. you will distract others. all in all...HIGHLY recommended!!!

    Pros:
    Impressive sound balance
    awesome sound isolation
    sick styling.

    Cons:
    Terrible sound leakage.

Greatest headphones on the planet, but there is a problem. The cord rips where it meets the thing to go into the iPod/headphones. Otherwise great in every area. But does anyone know where to buy an extra cord?

    wow!

    Written by IM from Gilbert

These are the first headphones I have been impressed by. I am sort of an audiophile and it takes a lot to impress me. Audiophile headphones Grado & Sennheiser are great but, unless you have an external amp for your portable player they don't sound very good. With the beats the sound is powerful and clear. The sound is not as controlled as Grado & Sennheiser headphones but if you like listening to R&B, Hip hop, Rap, and Electronic you will enjoy these headphones. The beats are expensive but if you plan on using them with a portable device they are well worth the money.

    May be overpriced

Written by CC from New Canaan

Beats are a very high end headphone. Are they worth the money? Personally i believe there are better headphones on the market for half the price. Bottom line-- If you are willing to pay the money, you will not be unimpressed. For an everyday listener, these headphones produce a very high quality sound. They are also extremely comfortable. Do some research before you drop hundreds on a pair of headphones.

    Great sound but...

    Written by MF from wirral

I have had these headphones for 6 months now and adore the sound. I find subtle components I have never even noticed before on tracks I been listening to for years.
Sadly, twice in those 6 months the cable sheath has failed at the jack plug. The cable looks really robust and well made but the lack of a flex stiffener appears to cause a weakness. To their credit Monster replaced the first one without a quibble and I am expecting them to do the same this time too but I do feel the quality of the cable lets down and otherwise first class product.

these heads phone ruined me...for the best

    Written by KJ from Honolulu

My Beats by Dre ruined me....now any other time I listen to music it will never sound as good as it does through my head phones. If you're passionate about music these headphones are a must! They are sick! The only complaints I have are as far as pricing goes..they're a little steep but you definitely get what you pay for. And also any people around you can hear what you're listening to which is really not a bad thing because now I can show off what great musical taste I have!

I bought the headphones yesterday, and I have to say that they are a little over hyped. They sound good but it really depends on how good the file is. I was dissapointed with the noise cancellation, it was ok but not worth 300$. They look good, feel good, there really comfortable. But really it probably depends on the pair you get because it seems to me that some pairs are defective. Overall they are great sounding headphones, but not worth 300$. I did try the bose headphones and these are clearly better.

    Beat Up. Recommend

    Written by JJ from SEATTLE

    May 29, 2009

    Goods:
--Sound is clear, rich, and directional. High quality MP3's are what this thing is built for.
--Build is solid: Everything was well thought out.
--Feel is solid: Doesn't feel like a toy.
--Look is solid: Speaks for itself.

    Bads:
--Interference on these phones seems to be a minor problem. I get a light "static" interference in my right can, which can be annoying at a $300 price point. (Not using iPhone / cell phone interference)
--Mute button is push and hold. It seems like all it does is cut the power to the headphones.
--Leak noise. People in my office can tell when I am listening to Ryan Cabrera. Lame ;)

Overall: I would recommend these phones. I purchased them cause I prefer the added power on the lows, than what the QC2s are designed for. Beats by Dre are good, just need to maybe return mine and see if a new pair would solve some of the bads above. Dre and MSter did a nice job. Look forward to Beats2.
