Ya its good, but is it worth it? Nope
Written by CS

Placed at the price of $300, I was really curious to know how these headphone sounded like. Luckily, I had a friend who bought one and lend me to try for a week.
First impression, I think it looks incredible, I love the look. The black and red theme worked really well together, but thats just the look, I am more interested in the sound. Then, I realized the noise cancellation, I don't really have any love with NC headphones because it kind of ruins the sound quality... but it won't be a deal-breaker for me. I connected to my iPod touch and played "Bitter Sweet Symphony" right away. Wow... yes... wow, that was only word I could say. Not in a good way, but in a disappointed way. To be honest, they sounded like my $55 portable headphones, the start with the violins were the pretty much the same as my portable AKG K450. Since it's called the "Beats" I expected huge bass, and yes, there was a lot of bass. However, I thought it sounded a bit hollow and empty, not a good impression.
I listened for about 3 hours on different variety of music, U2, Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, Akon to Jack Johnson, Bryan Adams and Pink. I even let myself listened to Mozart and Tchaicovsky. And yes, only the more "beat" and "bass" songs sounded good, the others were all disappointing. Probably because of the noise-cancellation. NC headphones only work when you are on a plane, it pretty much blocks out the engine noise. In normal occasions, including public transport, a good closed back headphone (AKG K450 priced with $100) can do the same thing on a bus.
Finally I asked myself, what makes these headphone $300? $300 is fierce, it's hard to imagine this headphone is more expensive than the Sennheiser HD600, Alessandro MS2, Audio Technica ESW9 and puts it awfully close to the AKG K701, which are all headphone supremes. In my opinion, I think this headphones is worth about $150 THE MOST, $300 is overwhelming and unreasonable (like most Monster products). But again, I guess Jay-Z and Monster are selling these to the teenagers who thinks their Skullcandys are too dull and no longer cool enough to bring it too school.21 of 36 people found this useful

DO NOT BUY THESE, HEADBAND GAURANTEED TO BREAK!!!!
Written by AB from Troutdale
Sep 17, 2009
I purchased these after I tried the sample ones in the store and I loved how they sounded. Seeing that the price was a whopping $300 I was expecting that I would be getting my moneys worth, that includes sound and durability of the headphones.
I have nothing against these headphones I think they are high quility performing, great sounding, bass and clarity, these headphones are ideal for people who enjoy listneing to hip hop and R&B.
But dont get fooled into buying these, after about 3 weeks of using these the headband started to crack on the right side where the metal piece is screwed underneath the headband, the top part of the headbands plastic was cracking whenever I wore them on my head and eventually snapped! Before I continue I want to note that I am always gentle with all my possessions and I was especially gentle with my beats and took extra care.
I am highly disappointed and angry that Monster would overprice a product made out of the weakest and cheapest plastic only to find out that the external life of this product doesn't even last for a month. Save ur money and do not purchase these.55 of 82 people found this useful

meh

These headphones really only have one purpose, techno music. When i listen to any kind of techno or house music, i love as much bass as I can get, these cans deliver. But for the other 8k songs i have in my library, these headphones are utter garbage. The bass isn't controlled at all, and dominates the music, making them seem very muddy and too warm. I would only recommend these headphones to people with only hip-hop and techno in their library, even so, actually I wouldn't recommend these to anybody.
If your looking for a new pair of high end headphones, do some research with companies like Sennheiser, Denon, and Grado, your ears will thank you.

Big bass, muddy sound
Written by KY from Apison
Apr 23, 2009
I had money in hand and was going to buy the Dr. Dre Headphones. I tried them on at an Apple Store immediately disliked the overly thick, thumping bass and overall muddy sound. I played with the EQ on the iPod and couldn't get any level of what I would call Fidelity out of them. I switched to another pair, same thing. Too bad. I wanted something with good solid bass, full sound AND crystal clear sound. If you want head exploding bass, get these. If you're more of an audiophile that likes pristine sound, don't buy these. Get the Bose or Sennheisers instead.

Decent sound, leaks . Broken. Beware of screws which loosen and break.
Written by PG from Traverse City
Mar 12, 2009
I loved the sound and fit of these while I had them, however there is a design flaw in which the screws that hold the headband together loosen, and ultimately break. I know of at least two other people who have experienced the same problem. Like another poster here, I am extremely careful with my gear, and these were no exception. Its a drag really, because they sound is pretty decent, but at this price they shouldn't break after a few months of normal wear. Also, the sound leaks from these so bad that anyone near you can hear exactly what you are listening to at moderate volume.

Not worth Price
Written by TP from Los Gatos

Ok sound. Pretty Load. But not worth the 350 $ price tag. I own pairs of the Bose Qc 3 and Skullcrushers by skullcandy. They Both deliver amazing sound, Noise Cancling amazingness. If your looking toward a heavy bass with good sound go with skullcrushers. If looking for amazing highs and lows, go with Bose. But I would not recomment overly bulky, pricy, and noise leaking headphones.

Fashion Fiction
Written by CR from Paso Robles
Dec 25, 2008
Well, I would like to think of myself as a ignorant sound snob. I only know what I like by listening to the quality, not the technical part. I like the deep bass of my Bose in-ear, but I like the iPhone mic in the Vibe II. The Beats are nothing more than a fashion statement. A statement saying I have money and I want people to know. I acquired these "beats" with the preconceived idea that they would have amazing deep bass. I was wrong, kind of. Some songs have the deep bass, but the majority of the time it is only hinted at. These are $100 phones in $250 clothes. When Monster and Dre say these were made with bass in mind it is all fiction, fashion fiction.

Hype...
Written by NK from MELBOURNE
Dec 15, 2008
Yep I've read most of the reviews on this site and the guys giving five stars I'm sure haven't had the chance of hearing top quality studio monitoring headphones and for the price that these are going for frankly there are a lot more options that will provide excellent clarity across the audio spectrum and some good background noise cancelation. I've compared the beats Vs some of these and this is my personal conclusion.
My personal preference are the Sennheiser HD 25's around $450AU [I was lucky and picked them up for $250AU] if you've got the cash; or even a Pair of Sennheiser HD 202's for $69AU are excellent for the money and still better than the beats in my opinion.
Also check out Bayer Dynamic DT 100's for $300AU or 990's for $350AU, the AKG K141's for $249AU....
Hope this helps...
Oh and stay away form little headphones that fit in your ear, ear piece style, they're all exceptionally bad! never enough bass and the quality no matter how good the head phones is never on par with all the head phones I've just mentioned!
cheers

These headphones cut in and out, and have a strange humming and clicking, its like Dre did this to remix each song on the fly... I've had 5 pairs and handled even more.
I expected better from a MONSTER product...

Nice deep bass but to expensive for both the look and the package
Written by ML from MALVERN
Aug 26, 2008
So, I bought the Beats today.. with tax in Dallas it came to a $400 headphone purchase. After have read a lot a reviews before and I will echo a lot of what I have read before.
I'm comparing the Beats to both my Sennheiser PXC350 (also noise canceling, about $350) and my custom-made UE 5 Pro, about $700 incl. the cost of the audiologist)
INTENDED USE: I'm going to use the Beats mostly in the office to listen my iPhone and to make calls with them. (I am not even going to try to run them against the custom Ultimate Ears because in airplanes and all high-noise environment there is nothing better!)
THREE CRITERIA:
1- Sound (especially for Jazz, Classic, Modern Acoustic, Audiobooks and making calls)
2- Looks (since I am wearing them in the office they need to look professional)
3- Use as a Headset for Phone calls on the iPhone
Bottomline: I will return the Beats tomorrow, because the Beats are beaten by both the Custom-Ultimate Ears and the Sennheiser PXC350):
1- Sound: The Beats do sound great - especially for all of the music categories that I listed (was surprising to me because I thought that they would only excel in Rap etc)... Audiobook performance was very weak though.. very muddled sound.... Sounded OK on phone calls but also a bit muddled
2- Looks: well they do look like the headphone equivalent of a Ghetto Blaster: red and shiny and black... and the "Beats by Dr. Dre" lettering across the headphone just don't look as professional as the Sennheiser lettering, or the complete understatement of the Custom Ultimate Ears.
I also didn't like how big the Beats looked on my head.. sticking out inches on both sides of my head.
3- Use as a Headset for Phone calls on the iPhone: this really has two aspects...
First, the microphone needs to be really good and clear (it is even though it does not get close to my Blue Ant Z9 or the Jawbone 2 headsets). Also, I didn't get that weird "taking in your own head" feeling that you normally get when using stereo headphones to make phone calls.
Second, Isolation of the headphones against the famous "GSM buzz"... Since the 3G reception is so spotty and battery-intensive on my 3G iPhone I have that feature switched off in 95% of the time. Which means that any headset that are to be used in that context need to be insulated against the "buzz"... The Beats are not...
As I said, I am going to return this because for this price I demand nothing less than perfection.
I did like how they sounded with the music that I am playing mostly... I would have kept them for about $200.25 of 37 people found this useful

LEAKING SOUND!!!!!
Written by RF from San Luis Obispo
Aug 22, 2008
You could use these headphones as speakers in your house with someone wearing them!!! I can hear my room mates music from my room when he is wearing them at medium high volume. Once they go to higher ranged volume I have to ask him to shut his door. I love these headphones but I cant wear them in quiet places or even semi-quiet places without making people angry. This makes all the other wonderful stuff about these headphones drift to the wayside. If I wanted to listen to them ONLY in my room with the door shut they would be nice but alas I dont. I want to listen to them everywhere and cant. And for the $349 dollar price this is just unacceptable.

Not Worth It!
Written by TB from Shantou

I tried them out side be side with my Technics headphones. No Competition!!!!! If you are used to the supplied earbuds that you get in the box, then these will really impress you, but, if your going to spend that kind of money, make sure that most of the price is for superior technology not for an endorsement.

Better out there for the Money
Written by JB from Winston-salem
Aug 13, 2008
Many $100 headphones have crisper higher quality sound then these. Be careful when buying a name since thats mainly what you get. Quite "bulky" compared to other name brands. Some other brands fold up for easier portability. I understand most headphones need some time to "break-in" to get a comfortable fit but I wouldn't want to subject my head to that painful break-in process. If someone is looking to spend that kind of money look into other alternatives. Bose QC3's for example. Same price and much better all around (comfort, noise canceling ability, sound quality, and roughly same price).

Its All About The Looks
Written by DD from Torbay
Aug 11, 2008
..and thats all it seems to have.
These headphones are beautiful, only to the eyes.
I'm glad I had a chance to try these out before I purchased them, because the comfort, and sound quality is horrible for such a high price.
I was expecting pure quality from Monster cable, which the wires were.. but the sound was very mediocre. My JBL 410 headphones have better sound quality, at less then half the price!
Just a dissapointment, I would consider buying these if they were maybe $100, but certainly not $350.
The only thing that I was impressed about from these headphones were the looks, and really, thats all the provided were looks, not sounds.17 of 39 people found this useful
