These headphones are amazing. The bass is incredible and they are very comfy. The only thing i found is that in tight quiet areas
they leak noise. The other thing i love about these headphones is that they are great looking. finally no more of that black and grey like bose .

Ya its good, but is it worth it? Nope

Placed at the price of $300, I was really curious to know how these headphone sounded like. Luckily, I had a friend who bought one and lend me to try for a week.

First impression, I think it looks incredible, I love the look. The black and red theme worked really well together, but thats just the look, I am more interested in the sound. Then, I realized the noise cancellation, I don't really have any love with NC headphones because it kind of ruins the sound quality... but it won't be a deal-breaker for me. I connected to my iPod touch and played "Bitter Sweet Symphony" right away. Wow... yes... wow, that was only word I could say. Not in a good way, but in a disappointed way. To be honest, they sounded like my $55 portable headphones, the start with the violins were the pretty much the same as my portable AKG K450. Since it's called the "Beats" I expected huge bass, and yes, there was a lot of bass. However, I thought it sounded a bit hollow and empty, not a good impression.

I listened for about 3 hours on different variety of music, U2, Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, Akon to Jack Johnson, Bryan Adams and Pink. I even let myself listened to Mozart and Tchaicovsky. And yes, only the more "beat" and "bass" songs sounded good, the others were all disappointing. Probably because of the noise-cancellation. NC headphones only work when you are on a plane, it pretty much blocks out the engine noise. In normal occasions, including public transport, a good closed back headphone (AKG K450 priced with $100) can do the same thing on a bus.

Finally I asked myself, what makes these headphone $300? $300 is fierce, it's hard to imagine this headphone is more expensive than the Sennheiser HD600, Alessandro MS2, Audio Technica ESW9 and puts it awfully close to the AKG K701, which are all headphone supremes. In my opinion, I think this headphones is worth about $150 THE MOST, $300 is overwhelming and unreasonable (like most Monster products). But again, I guess Jay-Z and Monster are selling these to the teenagers who thinks their Skullcandys are too dull and no longer cool enough to bring it too school.

I just got those headphones and pretty much like every one else I'm just amazed to see how good the sound quality is even though the price is pretty intense... not everyone can afford 300$ headphones.

The Greatest Sound Quality! Not so good frame!

Written by AR from San Pedro

    Oct 1, 2009

Initially as you will hear from others the sound quality on these headphones are off the chart!! The treble is clear and the bass is nothing less of perfect, It will practically rattle your head. Outside sound is no where to be heard, believe you won't be able to hear yourself think. The comfort is on point with its ability to adjust to any size head and the look is flawless. However, the durability of these head phones will disappoint you. The frame seems too flimsy and in just three weeks they snapped near the hinge of the fold panel. That should not be expected when paying over $300 for headphones. My advice is, sound quality and comfort, you won't find anything better. Sturdiness look elsewhere. If you have the money to blow, buy them, you'll love them from the first second you get them. However, if you don't, look for cheaper headphones.

I couldn't decide between the Bose, Shure and AKG, I went to Orlando from Charlotte NC, saw them at one of the innovation stores in airports. Asked every employee at each store. Every single one said THE beats where the best. I finally got them and was so amazed I just wanted to listen to my music on my trip.

    Incredible Sound!!!

Written by NM from San Francisco

    Wow. Seriously. Wow!
    These things are amazing.
I've been producing music for years and feel like I haven't really heard it until now. I use powerful monitors in the studio...but lets face it...unless the room is completely silent...or the speakers are blasting loud...I rarely get the opportunity to hear ALL the depth my analog synths and drum machines put out. Then I put these fantastic headphones on, and its like I'm hearing every track for the very first time. Definitely worth the investment. They have monster cables for crying out loud!

Its like bringing the studio sound out into the world. Comfortable and stylish.
    I LOVE THEM!!!

DO NOT BUY THESE, HEADBAND GAURANTEED TO BREAK!!!!

    Written by AB from Troutdale

    Sep 17, 2009

I purchased these after I tried the sample ones in the store and I loved how they sounded. Seeing that the price was a whopping $300 I was expecting that I would be getting my moneys worth, that includes sound and durability of the headphones.

I have nothing against these headphones I think they are high quility performing, great sounding, bass and clarity, these headphones are ideal for people who enjoy listneing to hip hop and R&B.

But dont get fooled into buying these, after about 3 weeks of using these the headband started to crack on the right side where the metal piece is screwed underneath the headband, the top part of the headbands plastic was cracking whenever I wore them on my head and eventually snapped! Before I continue I want to note that I am always gentle with all my possessions and I was especially gentle with my beats and took extra care.

I am highly disappointed and angry that Monster would overprice a product made out of the weakest and cheapest plastic only to find out that the external life of this product doesn't even last for a month. Save ur money and do not purchase these.

The best audio product I have ever owned...

Written by JP from Staten Island

    Sep 12, 2009

Im going to start this review with the only negative thing I can think of about these headphones; they will make you go deaf. The sound is so amazing on them, it will make you want to listen to every song full blast. Your whole library will sound different once you've heard them on the beats. The sound is blazing, the bass is pounding. It literally sounds as if someone glued subwoofers and speakers to your ears. I highly recommend these headphones. The price is definitely steep compared to the competition, but like Apple products you are paying for superior design and quality.

    The best

These are the best headphones money can by. Worth every bit of the price. The accessories (case, cable cords, and airplane adapters) are a plus. I don't understand the mute button on the headphones, because they are noise reduction h/phones. But overall there are no better headphones on the market.

    Absolutely awesome.

Written by DC from Incline Village

I've had these headphones for about 6 months now and they are absolutely incredible. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. It's so incredible that I've actually heard things that I didnt even know were in the song. The noise canceling is ridiculous. I wear these when I mow my lawn and not only do I still hear every single note, but they are comfortable to wear for an extended amount of time. The only problem I have with them is the left ear cup is sorta coming off and I take extremely good care of them.
Overall these are the best headphones I've ever had of wrapping around my ears.

    Good sound, cheap construction

Written by AS from Los Angeles

    Sep 4, 2009

Performance: Similar to Bose QC2, more enveloping bass, however it also uses 2 batteries instead of 1 (bose). Although the bass shakes the cans, it isnt deep. Highs arent very high either.

    QC2 has better noise reduction

Construction: Headphone assembly is held in place to the headband by two little plastic "rods." One of these broke after 4 months of use, which now causes the headphone to fall out and dangle when not worn. Im currently working on getting these replaced.

    Pros:
    Decent sound quality
    Mute button is neat
    Good cable construction
    Mic cord is neat
    folds up

    Cons:
    Pricey
    Cheap engineering/construction
    require 2 batteries compared to Bose's 1
    extremely wide

    Overall:
Get the Bose QC2. Similar performance, pros and cons balance out. The only reason I got this was because it looked nice. With my experience with Bose, they stand behind their products even when its out of warranty. Ill update on how Monster handles my problem

I was doubtful about these headphones, specially after I read the review that warns about buying audio equipment using a celebrity name, to which I honestly agreed. Well, believe me, I own a pair of high-end Sennheiser HD650 headphones and after buying and listening for some time to the Beats by Dr. Dre, I can tell you the sound of both headphones really compete against each other. The great advantage of the Beats by Dr. Dre is that because of their low impedance, they are very efficient and do not require a high power amplifier to sound great, just as it happens with high-end headphones like the Sennheiser HD650 or similar. For this reason, the Beats by Dr. Dre sound great even with portables like iPods, computers or Walkmans (I suggest the new X Series). The bass is powerful and you can feel it in your ears and the mids and highs are clear and shiny. My respect to Dr. Dre and Monster for this great product. Of course they are not cheap, and will cost more than your iPod, but if you have the money and really want to improve its sound quality, don't doubt about buying it.

    Decide for Yourself

Written by CM from East Hampton

    Aug 30, 2009

Listen, I own the BOSE QC3 noise-canceling headphones and I love them. However, after watching a number of video reviews of Dr. Dre's Monster Beats and reading a number of reviews posted here, I decided I needed to make my own decision. I have spent the past few hours listening to my iTunes Library on both my iPod and my Macbook and I have to say that there is a great deal of merit in the reviews I read. First, the build quality could be a little sturdier. As soon as I unboxed these 'phones I knew I was going to have to handle them carefully if I wanted them to retain their mint appearance. (So that costs a star). However, I have to say that the depth of sound, the dimensionality of the music in my library, is greatly enhanced by these headphones--exceeding the range of my beloved QC3's. Also, whoever said that the noise-canceling features of these headphones is absent must possess some form of genetic sonar. My experience is that the external world utterly recedes while music is playing on these inescapably stylish cans. Expensive? Yes. Quality? The construction deserved more attention but the sound definitely delivers.

    The Beats are Good

Written by RM from Las Vegas

    Aug 28, 2009

Okay, if you love bass and love it when your headphones thump tremendously when you blast them to full volume then these are the headphones for you. Yes, they are incredibly pricey and I thought initially that it wasn't worth the money but after spending more time with them I began to be a lot more satisfied with my purchase. All genres of music sound remarkably clear and the quality of sound is highly professional. You really do hear everything in your songs. I think that Hip-hop listeners will prefer them especially because the loud, tight and punchy bass and powerful kicks are all there for you to hear the way producers wanted you to hear it. On a different note, these headphones really, really leak noise. They are like speakers and they get very loud and it becomes so easy for people around you to hear your music. They are very stylish in addition to being top-quality headphones for music lovers of any genre. Rock music and even orchestral music, I might add, sounded very great. You will want to listen to all your tracks again after getting these because they really change the whole music listening experience. From vocals to the slightest sound of a snare, drum, synth, live instrument, etc., the Beats deliver a pleasant sound for the ears to hear.
