The biggest problem is the price

    Written by NW from Cambridge

    Dec 25, 2008

I tried these out at an apple store a few nights ago and first things first... the bass will make your eyes bleed. It thumps all the other sounds right out of your ear and practically humps the side of your head. Also... it wasn't good bass, it was distorted and at times completely drowned out the FOLK song i was listening to so i can't even begin to imagine what hip-hop would sound like coming out of them... prolly irecoygnizable. Everything sounded thick and heavy and filled with BASS. this being said, i loved them. even though it was a bit much they were great, when you could hear vocals through the pounding of bass they were good and i would defiantly buy them if it wasn't for the price which is ludicrous. All in all, they're good but if u have the $ to spend i suggest you spend it else where.

i received these for christmas and i love them. they have the best sounds i have ever heard and i've listened to many headphones before i decided to get these. they are also very comfortable and durable too. even though they are kind of expensive they are worth the money because most of the noise-canceling headphones are a couple hundred dollars anyway. these are great and i just cant stop listening to them.

All these people complaining bout the humming noise, that is only when you are not listening to music because that is that sound cancellation. You do not hear it while music is playing. They produce great sound.

    Fashion Fiction

Written by CR from Paso Robles

    Dec 25, 2008

Well, I would like to think of myself as a ignorant sound snob. I only know what I like by listening to the quality, not the technical part. I like the deep bass of my Bose in-ear, but I like the iPhone mic in the Vibe II. The Beats are nothing more than a fashion statement. A statement saying I have money and I want people to know. I acquired these "beats" with the preconceived idea that they would have amazing deep bass. I was wrong, kind of. Some songs have the deep bass, but the majority of the time it is only hinted at. These are $100 phones in $250 clothes. When Monster and Dre say these were made with bass in mind it is all fiction, fashion fiction.

    Great cans

My friend bought these for me on sale for a little less than $280 for Christmas, I was a bit skeptical because I read the reviews about how "bad" these things were for the price. I have to say though, they sound great to 90% of the listeners. If you are true audiophile then you wouldn't be using these headphone but, if you want a very good option to the Bose definitely take a listen to these.

    WAY overrated

    Written by BT from Eufaula

    Dec 22, 2008

I tried a pair out at an Apple store. Way overrated compared to its price tag. All these people saying Bose is better, are wrong. They are just fanboys. If you want true audiophile phones, go with AKG, Grado, Sennheiser, etc... These Beats do sound good, but not good enough for the steep price tag.

These are not very good for acoustic music.

My only advice, TRY THEM BEFORE YOU BUY THEM!

    Not worth the money

Written by DP from Pen Argyl

    Dec 22, 2008

I had a chance to sample these at the Apple store last night. I listened to several different tracks, these lack presence, and sound like headphones...meaning you hear more of the electronics and less of the music. Do yourself a favor, go listen to a set of Grado SR60's (69.95), or a pair of Grado SR80's (89.95), available at most higher end audio stores. They are worth every penny. Then use the left over money to download a bunch of good tunes on iTunes!!!

I love these headphones. I was worried about the music leaking out to people around me and it does a lot but the sound on these is worth it.
The sound is smooth, bass is great, very comfortable, carrying case is very good and useful.
And what makes them even better, they work with my LG DARE, so i can go from listening on the phone to talking seamlessly.

    Heavily unbalanced, but read on.

    Written by HR from Sunnyvale

    Dec 21, 2008

Names should pretty much explain this headphone itself; this one is BASSY.

Sound is.. er.. GREAT (if you only listen to like 2-3 genres that only focuses heavily on... well.. BEATS), but also BAD (if you DON'T....)

I guess the unbalance isn't AS bad as some other headphones out there (but trust me.. you will need to do a LOT of custom EQ'ing for each song..), but considering it's $350, I don't know why you would get this and get a limited sound.

It's really up to you, but PLEASE bring your own ipod (because.. well most apple stores have ipods with like.. 10 songs on it :P ) or something and PLAY different genre of music.. you'll see what I mean by "limited".
THEN if you still like it, and want to be lazy and spend $350 on this baby, go ahead, after all it IS your money. :)

I went to a the nearest apple store in need of new headphones i was going on an 8 hour trip and needed some head phones the would tame the background noise. So i bought them not very excited about the 350 mark but they were outstanding! i flet like i didnt have any headphones on! They were very soft, light wait and the sound was amazing! I didnt hear a thing! The only problem is the music quality needs to be from apple or cd i have some share music on my ipod that had static. But other then that they were amazing head phones

    WOW!

    Written by JH from Poway

    Dec 16, 2008

To be completely honest I was a little bose biased. I decided to go to Best Buy because I was able to try on both the Beats and the QC2 and the Beats are definitly worth the extra 50 bucks. The bass is rich and thumping compared to the Bose which i found to be a little weak. The highs are just as good the Bose are pretty equal here. I listen to pretty much anything and I have been nothing but impressed so far. So glad that I chose these over the Bose. If you dont believe me try and hit up your local best buy and try them out. If they dont have the quiet comfort available to test use the Bose triport its the same thing as the QC2 but without the noise cancelation. 10 out of 10 for the Beats.

Trust me, I have had both of the Bose QC models and these absolutely blow those out of the water! Comes with iSonic cable so it works seamless with iPhone too. I know they are expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for!! Great for flights or just listening to tunes at home. Also has a nice mute button that comes in handy when the flight attendant asks you what you want to drink on the plane

    Hype...

    Written by NK from MELBOURNE

    Dec 15, 2008

Yep I've read most of the reviews on this site and the guys giving five stars I'm sure haven't had the chance of hearing top quality studio monitoring headphones and for the price that these are going for frankly there are a lot more options that will provide excellent clarity across the audio spectrum and some good background noise cancelation. I've compared the beats Vs some of these and this is my personal conclusion.

My personal preference are the Sennheiser HD 25's around $450AU [I was lucky and picked them up for $250AU] if you've got the cash; or even a Pair of Sennheiser HD 202's for $69AU are excellent for the money and still better than the beats in my opinion.

Also check out Bayer Dynamic DT 100's for $300AU or 990's for $350AU, the AKG K141's for $249AU....

    Hope this helps...
Oh and stay away form little headphones that fit in your ear, ear piece style, they're all exceptionally bad! never enough bass and the quality no matter how good the head phones is never on par with all the head phones I've just mentioned!

    cheers
    :K

sounds better in some areas but shares the same issues as most

Written by CN from San jose

    Dec 15, 2008

Ive burned thru several pairs of Noise-canceling headphones and one thing I've learned is that the electronics involved in noise-canceling is fragile, and the headphones degrade over time. With that aside, these headphones excel with the sound of heavy dance music, but the Bose (since everyone's comparing) and the Audio Technica's that I decided on, did a better job with all types of music.

Ive decided on a pair of Audio Technica Quiet Point's for when i want noise-cancelling (airplane, office etc) as they were $100 and do just as good a job as the bose headphones, handle all music, and left me with some money in my pocket to pay my mortgage. I had the original Bose Quiet Comfort headphones and they fell apart after a year. All noise-canceling headphones have a "buzz" as mentioned a lot, its more of a strange de-phasing sound to me, and it causes discomfort after a while--like my ear is being pulled out from the reverse phasing process. That buzz got more and more prevalent in the Bose's. I wonder how the monster/dre headphones will fare after a year or 2.

If i want to make beats in the studio, i dont use headphones. I use speakers. If i had to use headphones for that, I will continue to use my trysty Sony MDRV700 DJ headphones, as they're built like a rock, unlike your average fragile noise-canceling headphone. And no batteries required :)

    About the hissing noises...

    Written by AS from Sarasota

    Dec 9, 2008

There have been a few reviews about hearing a hissing noise in the background. One explanation is that the song being listened to was illegally downloaded and has been stripped of quality.

However, some people are hearing the hissing noises when listening to songs downloaded from iTunes or songs ripped from a CD. On my pair of Beats the hissing noise can be heard only when listening to music from my computer. So the other source of the hissing noises could be the signal computer gives off when nothing is supposed to be playing.

I think this may be the cause because I never hear the hissing sounds (that come from the left ear cup only) when I am listening to music out of my iPod or iPhone, only from my laptop.

There is also the distinct possibility that other reviewers have received faulty headphones.

Looks, sound, hissing, price and all - 4/5 stars
