I bought this game for my Intel based MacBook Pro planning on trying it on both Windows and OSX. BE AWARE that if you are getting this to play on a Mac you MUST have an Intel Mac AND the latest LEOPARD update (10.5.3). So if you're still using Tiger (10.4) then you're out of luck unless you buy Leopard.

Anyway, if you love games that employ your creativity then this is definitely your bag. There are limitations that might burst some of your imaginary bubbles such as maximum spine length and maximum parts. There are a plethora of colors and textures to choose from just don't expect to find any "furry" texture if you planned on giving your creature a fro. It's possible to make anything from the disgustingly cute to freakishly ugly. Even if you think you might like it just a little, at $10 it's MORE than worth it if you do and a bargain bin gift if you don't.

Fun, but not on a Mac Mini

I've really enjoyed this on my Intel iMac.

Caution! This will NOT run on a Mac Mini (any of the Minis, including the latest and greatest!) According to the Spore website, the Intel GMA 950 chipset is NOT supported for the game at all. We've tried to run it on my son's LOADED Mini, but it doesn't work...

Error GL:5538 easy fix

If the issue you encounter is a "GL:5538" error message, you will not need to re-download the game --
instead, the solution is to remove your Spore Creature Creator Preferences folder. GameTreeOnline.com has
a script/application available that will simply automate this process for you, and allow you to run SporeCC correctly. To receive this script you can contact the GameTree Online support through the 'Contact Us' section and ask for the script. This fixed my problem without any difficulties. I had a huge problem with EA support. It was slow and never accounted for anything.

As for a review of the game; there is nothing I don't like except that there is no preview of the gameplay of the actually Spore game. I enjoy the idea of being an entity of intelligent design (higher power, god, or any being along the same lines). The Creation of Creatures is as easy as slicing already sliced bread. This game is by far the best Mac supported game on the market right now (in my humble opinion).

Fun for Absolutely Everyone!

One word could justify this game: amazing. It is nothing short of that. I have been playing the preview version for a few hours now, and I know this is beneficial for all ages. Building your creature is only the starting point about learning about our universe, the ecosystems that inhabit it. Best of all, there is no win or lose in this game, it's purely an experience in itself. Have fun playing God for a day, and try and tell me that this isn't the revolution gaming has been waiting for.

Now, this is the build-up to the full-fledged experience of Spore. In this version, you get to build up an entire encyclopedia's worth of creatures, which you will be able to use in Spore's full game. But this is so worth the 10 bucks, you can't go wrong.

I highly recommend this game, not only for it's creative merit, but the education that comes along with it.

Creativity galore, this game is amazing, and worth twice its retail price, its even better with the full version of spore, its just like an add on pack. I'd even recommend adding creepy and cute. Unfortunately, I bought the guide, spore galactic, and this game 2 weeks before I ordered the aluminum iMac and was bursting out of my skin to play it for that whole time, I also recommend the guide if you purchase the full version. TOTALLY AMAZING GAME! Just make sure you have a computer with 10.5.3, or you'll kill yourself waiting to play.

This game is just a fraction of what the full game spore has, and I love this game . I only have the demo version (not the full $10 version), but I love this game. Can not wait to get the game Spore when it comes out in the U.S 9/7/08 and it get it for the mac

GL:5538 Error FIX

One star for support / Five for game...average 3
Finally! Remove the installed Spore CC app from your drive, and then locate and remove Spore preferences. Next, find any files marked "Transgaming" (Library/Application Support). The removal of these made the next installation work. I think the problems were due to leftover Cider/Transgaming preferences from an installation of Battlefield 2142.
No thanks to EA for passing the buck on these problems, removing threads about them from their forums, and generally ignoring problems in the Mac community.
Great game once it gets working, though.

I just downloaded the trial version of this yesterday, and my daughter and I LOVE it! I'm going to have to go on and at least get the whole creature creator, even if I don't get SPORE. The movements are so real and life-like looking. Yeah, I'm going to have to go on and get SPORE so I can make my little critters live. This is a lot of fun!

I downloaded the trial version for the computer, it was awesome, it has great graphics and is really fun. Although it has limited number of parts and paint selections, it is REALLY FUN!.I like how you can stretch the parts, move them and make them bigger or smaller. So for Christmas I really want Spore, and Creepy and Cute pack parts.

When I try to open the game, it starts, but then displays the error "gl:5538" and terminates. I have heard the content is great, but the game doesn't seem to want to work! I want my money back!

I instantly fell in love with my little Bidi. I effortlessly shared him on my facebook page, and shot my little super star into YouTube land. My only fear is we are going to want real pets less and less.

No Mac Demo and you can't buy this in Australia

I give this 4 stars, it looses a star for the total lack of support EA has given Mac gamers and Australian gamers in general. I was forced to buy a copy from a UK website of all places.

EA needs to seriously release a MacOS demo of this game and also allow Australians to buy it. Because its really annoying having both this shop and EA's tell me "There are Country restrictions" blah blah blah.. Honestly I thought now that we live in the grand age of Region Free gaming that all this nonsense could just go away.. but looks like that's not the case.
