Definitely Entertaining
Written by VH from East Brunswick

To be completely honest, Spore is very creative, but if you're looking for intensive gameplay or something like Sims this game is not for you. What Spore really is, is about five different smaller games (or evolutionary stages) put together to form one larger game. I think this makes the game more interesting, but suffering through your least favorite stage can be repetitive and boring. This is OK though, because you advance to another stage fairly quickly. Space stage by far is the hardest and this is where gameplay becomes a little slow. Otherwise the game is great.
The creature possibilities are endless, and the game itself is easy enough to catch onto. I have fun whenever I play.

Fun, but not epic
Written by AC from Flower Mound

I bought this game because I needed a distraction and I enjoy strategy games like this (or Civilization or Age of Empires, etc.). I did enjoy the game, though it did not take long at all to beat it. This game is basically a compilation of 5 smaller games, or stages, with your actions in each stage affecting the game in later stages. While each stage was fun, none of them was really addicting. This game basically reminded me of the phrase, "jack of all trades, master of none". I would prefer a game like Civilization in which it is in depth, as opposed to 5 simple stages combined.
However, this game would be great for someone creative who enjoys customizing every aspect of the game. Every stage allows you to design your own character, buildings, or vehicles, including shape, color, and abilities.57 of 78 people found this useful

Best Game Ever Built!
Written by AT from Billings
Nov 9, 2008
I got Spore as a gift, and was so excited. (I had been wanting it for a long time.) Once I got all set up, the game was so cool! Create your own cell, evolve to a creature, gain intelligence and evolve to tribe, then raise another brain level to civilization, where you can destroy, trade, or befriend a different city, and then become smarter still to evolve to the space stage, where you can colonize other galaxies, planets, etc. The only downside of the game is registering an account (optional). You have to be 13 or older to register, but it totally pays off. I reccomend it for every game lover.

DO NOT BUY - PATCH FAILS
Written by VC from Honolulu
Nov 8, 2008
EA has not addressed a patch failure for this program. The patch does not install properly and you will be stuck in an infinite loop where it keeps trying to install the patch and it fails. Search the Internet for this issue, it is widely known, yet EA does not address it.

Endless playability.
Written by PH from Cascade
Nov 2, 2008
Ok, so, yes, this game's release has been marred by the activation limiting DRM, and yes, it does have some glitches. But come on, seriously, those things are small, small details.
I bought this game after having heard all the bad things about the DRM, the buggy gameplay, the limited phases of gameplay...I bought it with fairly low expectations, really. But I am 100% glad I bought it, for Spore is one of the greatest computer games I have ever played.
The phases of gameplay leading up to the space stage are definitely not that deep, but that's okay. Spore's real appeal lies in the space stage anyway, and they definitely succeed in that respect. The galaxy is massive, open-ended, and richly detailed. There are any number of ways to play through the space stage. And the massively-single player features add a layer of community to a game where you can basically create anything.
Yeah, there are some bugs. I play this game on my MacBook Pro, with the latest version of Leopard and 4 gigs of RAM, and even on this computer, it's a little buggy. I've had my fair share of crashes. But don't let that scare you off. When it crashes, you just have to shrug it off and boot it back up. My advice? Save often.
So, Spore may not be as deep as Maxis claimed it would be during the development process, where they almost made it seem like you had total control. You most certainly do not have total control. But that's a good thing. It makes the game more challenging, because, rather than just making a galaxy, you instead get to conquer it.
Buy this game. You will never ever stop playing it.40 of 44 people found this useful

No other game is more dynamic, customizable, and awesome as spore. I don't play at the highest video quality and the graphics are STILL great. Every level is just the perfect length to beat. All the choices possible make every move unlike any other.

Awesome until space stage
Written by SR from Stamford
Nov 1, 2008
I love this game! The sheer openness of it makes it hard to stop playing. It is amazing! However, in the space stage, occasionally an error pops up and no matter if you click "yes" or "no", the game quits without saving. This bug is terrible. I have tried calling my Apple Store, AppleCare, and emailing EA, but nothing has worked so far. If I were buying this game right now, I would wait until they come out with a patch for this problem.

Dare I say Spore is too big?...
Written by MM from Urbandale

I was really looking forward to this game and I've been following it's production ever since it was announced. The graphics and interface are beautiful. It is a great game during the cell through civilization levels, but when you get to space it almost seems too massive. I guess that is the point, space is supposed to be big, heck it's even bigger than portrayed here. It just seems like the game flies up to that point and then you are stuck in this immense area that takes forever to traverse. I found myself looking for cheat codes so I could at least experience the Grox.

This game was so awesome and I loved it until it turned into World of War Craft which is the stupidest game ever created and the same is with any other game like it. Don't buy this unless that is what you like they should have stuck with how it was at the beginning instead of changing the game once you get to tribal stage. I suppose it is a good thing I hate this game now because it was taking away from homework time.

Crashes Constantly, don't buy
Written by DO from Olympia
Oct 27, 2008
The Game is great. Moving through the cell, creature and tribal stages goes too fast however and they put a little too much emphasis on the space stage. Besides that though the game is a blast---unless you're on a mac. if you are then expect to save every ten minutes, because it WILL crash. Even if you patch the game, it makes no difference. I've given up playing the game because it keeps crashing, after about an hour or so of play, it quits without saving and gives me an error message full of unintelligible jargon.
EA really dropped the ball. Save your money.
This isn't an isolated case. I'd post a link but apple doesn't allow it, so just go to google and search "mac spore keeps crashing" and you'll get to see forum after forum of frustrated customers vocalizing the countless problems experienced with this game.
Take my advice, don't buy this game. If you're disappointed Little Big Planet looks really fun and exhibits a lot of the same creative aspects that this game does, and it's not made by EA! (You'll need a PS3 of though.)

This game is so awesome. Yeah I know that only one person can be on the game at a time but I really don't care. The graphics are really cool and the music is outstanding! I can't get enough of this game. Also viewing what others have done is cool too, and I like the fact that you can add them to your game. I would really recommend this to everyone I know!!

I was OBSESSED with this game before the release. I checked the website like everyday for updates. I thought is would be "so amazing!", but I bought it, and I was disappointed. As I got to the creature stage, I didn't find much to do. All you an do is eat, attack, make friends and walk around. And also, you are supposed to uninstall the creature creator before you install the game. I installed it, twice, and then I read the "installation" page in the handbook. In probably size 9 font it says "You must uninstall the creature creator before installing this game". Overall, it was just really bland. I don't suggest buying.

I seriously think this game has more re-playability value then Sid Meier's Civilization Series. For those who say it is a wear-out after 2 days, the person doesn't have a clue about creature creation. I,definitely, would recommend this product whose brain is on the creative edge not the literal side of mind.
