110V only so useless in Europe

    • Written by

I bought this thinking it was a travel plug but it can't handle 220V-240V like cheapo adapters do. I also find it bulky, there's got to be a way to make it more compact, at the very least a retractable plug…
    Not impressed.

    Great product

    • Written by from Miami

I always bring it with me. You can set the connector position in order to get the best arrange to your power socket. The only one problem is when charge my iPod (5th gen) and other gadget at the same time by USB port (I have tryed with other iPod, Android phone and USB battery), it get overloaded. Nevertheless it is a great product. 100% recommended.

    Great and Handy

Love it, I bought this at my college's bookstore ---- I used to plug my iphone into it via USB and/or the power adapter cube. Now I use the USB ports to charge my ipod shuffle and Livescribe pen when I need it - all the while my clock, laptop and rechargeable toothbrush are using the power plugs

    Very convenient on the road

    • Written by from Belmont

Very useful to carry with me. Every time I use it at the airport, I always find people plugged into it.

Don't lose the little protective cover for the plug when you get it. You can slide it into the opposite side from the plug as a way to balance the unit.

    Well-made, well-engineered

    • Written by from Seattle

A previous review states that “When the unit is plugged in the lower end tends to pull into the wall. There is no support on the lower end to match the upper end.” Actually, the grey cap that covers the plug (when not in use) is designed to connect to the lower end for exactly this purpose.

    best charger

I love that you have the 2 USB ports on the top and how you can turn the plug around so it suits your plug conditions (which mine aren't very organized). Very satisfied with Belkin products!

USB Power Outlets too low for iPad

    • Written by from Scottsdale

The USB ports on the Belkin Mini Surge Protector are rated at 5 watts. This is inadequate to charge devices that require more power such as iPad (10 watts) or Mac laptops.

If your requirements are limited to devices that require lower power rating then this surge protector will work fine. Otherwise, you will have a bulky 120vac, three outlet surge protector that is waste of money.

There are other devices available that provide the function giving you 10 watt output for USB although their design may not be as elegant as the Belkin.

Won't work with 220V, it too big to be useful

    • Written by from Laguna niguel

This unit is much bigger then you would think from the pictures. It might be manageable but you can't use it outside the US with 220 volt systems. I ended up using it in my house as an extra [expensive] wall charger. Look for a smaller competitive product with a plug receptacle that retracts and 220 volt support. They exist and are a better value.

    Don't waste your money...

    • Written by from Grand Junction

I only gave this one star because it wouldn't let me rate it a ZERO. I had many of the same problems the other reviewers had. It got the 'not charging' message when I tried to charge my iPad using the USB...but that same cord worked everywhere else. And the charger takes up both outlets. The rotating seems like a great idea, but then the USB ports are on the bottom which make it impossible to plug them in. I'll be returning it tomorrow. Don't waste your time or money for apple products.

    THE BEST WARRANTY EVER

    • Written by from Boston

I have owned this surge protector for about two years. It gave out while I was on vacation, which sucked but when I got home I checked out their website. I was able to complete a 2 min form, mail the item back ( at my cost) and they mailed me a new one. The process took about 2 weeks. From now on I am only purchasing Belkin products.

    Does what I need.

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

I purchased this because it was small, had three outlets and two usb ports. I love it. I have two for me: work and home. I also purchased one for each of my daughters.

I wanted to protect our laptops. This does the trick for us.

    Only ok

    • Written by from Natick

Pros: Two USB ports to charge your iPhone and iPod

Cons: It's too large and will take up both plugs in a standard 2-up plug. Plus it should have a 'dead man' that plugs into the lower outlet but doesn't, resulting in the prongs pulling out a bit, exposing the metal. I have a MacBook Pro and I plug in the huge brick into it and it just makes a mess. Where USB chargers are pulling only 5/12 volts, I don't understand why there aren't more smaller 2/4-up USB chargers out there.

    It sounds!

    • Written by from South Pasadena

I bought this surge protector because of the USB capability... It worked well BUT it makes a tiny sharpie electrical sound (like electrical interference). It won't be a problem for people who doesn't pay so much attention to little sounds but for me was unsustainable... I had to return it 3 days after...

    hate this product

    • Written by from Honolulu

just recently purchased this item and i was so glad to use it. i tested it at home the same night that i got it and it seems to be working properly. i brought it to school the next day and everyone was using it. all their macs are charging but mine. i thought it was due to my charger so i immediately rushed to apple store to get it fixed. however, when i was at the store, my charger was doing its job charging my computer...i even asked the guy to try and use my surge protector but it was still working...two days later (with a huge paper due in 2 hours), my computer was not charging again just right after i used this product because when i was using a different surge protector couple of hours earlier, my computer was charging.
    MY CONCLUSION:
there is something about this product that always seem to mess up my charger...2/3 usage resulted into an inoperative charger....i would rather just get a targus brand...plus, this item doesn't look durable at all. think twice and research before buying this product

I swear by this small wonder...

    • Written by from Wilkie

...around the house and on the road.
Sharp looking, with a clean, Apple-centric design sense.
This mini-power bar has taken up residence in just about every room in my house.
Really great, and well worth the money, especially for anyone who travels.

    Not bad...

    • Written by from Littleton

I managed to get this 'somewhere else' for a real good deal but I've got one from Apple too earlier this year. All of them give a slight high pitch hum that goes away when something is connected and drawing power. So far I've been able to plug in 3 devices via AC and 2 USB, all work. USB only pumps out the 500ma 5v rating, so expect newer iDevices to charge slowly. I have/can charge(d) my iPhone 4 and iPad 16GB at the same time, but the iPad says "not charging" when the screen is on.

my only issue is the weakness in the outlet connection, I've had it fall out once and I wasn't too happy about that. the plug cover that comes with the device helps brace but not when you've got 3 heavy cords pulling it down. just keep that in mind when you plug in heavier cords or blocks.

    Good idea but...

    • Written by from Dallas

...not the best execution. I was so excited to find this surge protector because I loved the idea of the USB ports. I was even more excited when I saw that the plug turns so that it can either run up and down or lengthwise. It's just too bad that the darned thing won't stay plugged into a wall outlet. The plug on the surge protector itself sticks out too far from the wall, and once you have things plugged into it, the weight of the surge protector, plugs, and cords pulls the surge protector out of the wall socket. Bummer.

    more versatile than I expected

    • Written by from WAQUOIT

I've had this for over a year, plugged my iPhone 3G into it and also a Boston radio. No problems, reliable. Surprisingly has two Mac usb outlets on the top so you don't have to use an adapter for your power cords. Very convenient, more uses than I expected.

Does not charge iPad via USB

    • Written by from Kanata

Great product, but will not charge an iPad (which displays "Not Charging").

Can't blame Belkin as they made this before the iPad came along. Just too bad that I have to carry multiple power plugs around again.
