    Intego does work

    Written by TP from Richfield

    Jul 29, 2009

I had a drive-by Unix Arc-Bomb Trojan through an I-Frame injection happen to me on a nationally known router/UTM site. I normally have my NoScript engaged not to let Java/Flash run, but that time I was going to download something and had Java and Flash running for that site This was no false positive, after talking to their webmaster they shut the site down for 2.5 days. Their site was infected. I would of never known what hit me if I did not have an anti-virus/malware program. This was 1.5 years ago. It is 100 times worse now with PDF/Java infections attacking the browser. You HAVE to be protected, even with a Mac. I am not worried about a virus, I am more worried about malware on OS X.

I just don't get the disappointed people. I have been running their products on 6 Macs and have never had issues with any of them. Sure your computer will slow down a bit if you are in a full active scan, as for automatic background downloading and email scans I notice no slow downs.

I buy the 2 year plan on virus definitions, so I only pay $44.90 for 2 years of definitions. $23 a year, That's fair

I am surprised that some people are having a hard time with this software, as I have been running it for a few months with no problems at all. It is mostly invisible, running scans when I connect another volume or boot my mac in the morning.

Other Virus protection software I have used has been so bad I abandoned using it, but this one behaves very well and does exactly what it's told. If it starts a scheduled scan and I want to use all the CPU power for another task, I simply close the progress bar window and I get no argument. Other software I have used will not allow me to interrupt or postpone a scan, it will lock up my machine instead, not this one, it does what I say!

I am running it on a mid 07 2.4 MacBook Pro, which has heaps of grunt, so maybe the moaners are using older, less capable hardware.

To the uninformed, be informed, welcome to the real world where millions of Mac-Haters can't wait to shoot the Mac OS down in flames. A recent scan of a friends disabled computer revealed 12 malicious items with root access including, 'OSX/RSPlug.B10!s1', 'OSX/RSPlug.A9!s1', 'OSX/RSPlug.gen7!s1', W32/FraudLoad.vaoa, et-cetera.

I COULD HARDLY BE HAPPIER WITH THIS PRODUCT, THANKS, INTEGO.

This slowed my machine down to barely a crawl. Not worth the time and the hassle.

After I installed this product, I began to have problems with Safari freezing. I had to uninstall the intego product. This was a waste of money.

    Very Good

While this software is advertised as non-intrusive, the first scan of any drive or device will slow down the operation of your computer. I have a 2.4 GHz MBP with 4 GB of RAM, and it still suffered some beach balls when trying to surf the web while running the initial scans.

As mentioned in the ads for this software, though, it works on a similar principle to Time Machine. Subsequent scans only search through files that have been modified since the last scan. Consequently, once the initial scans are done the software is non-intrusive to say the least. Even when you enable real-time scanning, which lets the software scan files as they are opened or run, there is no discernible effect on system performance.

    I highly recommend this software.

    Awesome Product

Intego's VirusBarrier X5 is the best anti-virus software I've used on any system. I've had problems with anti-virus programs slowing down my PC or conflicting with Windows security features. So I wanted to make sure that wouldn't happen to my new MacBook, running Leopard. I'm pleased to say it has not affected my MacBook's performance at all. VirusBarrier is simple to install and use and now I feel much better knowing not only is my personal information on my MacBook safe, but I won't be passing virus' to other family members who still have Windows based PCs.

probably not compatible with Time Capsule

If you have a Time Capsule, I strongly suggest trying VB's free trial download before buying it. I didn't, and subsequently spent DAYS trying to get everything back to normal. The guy at Intego tried to support me through it, but it never did work.

    Best protection for Mac

    Written by PS from Raleigh

    Jan 14, 2009

VirusBarrier is the best virus protection for a Mac. It uses less resources than Norton AntiVirus and it finds viruses that NAV misses. Tech support is very responsive and you may try it out for 30 days free from the Intego web site before you buy.
    Just try it.
If you are a person that wants to understand how it works or you want to customize the configuration, just read the manual.

    FABULOUS PROTECTION!!

Several of my friends and I have used this award-winning software for years now, and no problems!! So easy to install and use, it works beautifully and invisibly in the background. This "security" is well worth the money. I had problems with Norton's anti-virus products in the past when on Tiger, but never had a bad moment with Intego products!! Intego works exclusively with Mac's - not just some afterthought. Go for it!!

    Dissapointed

    Written by CF from Mason

    Sep 6, 2008

Bought the software and it arrived promptly. There is no manual in the box, which struck me as strange for 70$ software. I installed it with a little intuition and told it to start scanning. For some reason the software counts the # of files on your computer...useless?...yes. The software has a one year license for updates which I was unaware of. It scanned and found no viruses, which is good. I guess everyone is right, there are very few viruses for Macs, or this software doesn't work. (im assuming it does) I downloaded new definitions which was simple and easy and set up the scanning schedule. Had some trouble turning on the Real-Time scanner which scans in the background without having the program running.

Installed this product, and it seemed to work in the scan. However, It slowed my machine down so slow, it became pretty useless (Almost like a Windows Machine). I had to turn off the Active Scan to get my computer back. I guess I will have to live with occasional manual scans.

    Fast and Easy

This is how a Macintosh security product should work. Obviously, the developers at Intego have their stuff together. I have tried competing products in the past - including Symantec, McAfee and Virex. All were more painful than the bad stuff they were trying to protect from.
The initial HD scan takes awhile, but, it doesn't tie up the ability to do other work. Love the interface.

    Great Mac AntiVirus

Easy to use, easy to install, easy to understand
It runs invisibly in the background as soon as I startup so I don't have to do anything.
    Updating is easy too!
They are a Mac only company so I know they are dedicated to the platform and that makes me feel pretty confident about the product as well.
I highly recommend this antivirus !!!
