Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Doesn't work with limited support from ASPYR
Written by NM from THE WOODLANDS
Oct 20, 2008
I installed the game on my MacBook Pro 2.5 core duo as soon as it arrived from the Apple online store and it doesn't run. Every time I run I get an error that "The COD4 Application quit unexpectedly" on single player and sometimes multiplayer runs, sometimes not.
I called Aspyr technical support and went through 2 rounds, one being remove install and reinstall, the other being remove install and reinstall under admin account. It should work but doesn't and we can help you was the final answer.
Seems like it would be a fun game game if it worked. I can't even return it as it is opened software so I am out $55.50 of 83 people found this useful

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Poor Performace
Written by DK from Carrickfergus
Oct 16, 2008
Anyone who says that this game runs on full settings on a Mac Book Pro is somewhat glossing over the truth.
I have a 2008 Mac Pro 8 core with 8800GT and 2GB of RAM. I have to lower the graphics settings considerably to get the game up to a playable frame rate. My Mac gets 10-15fps with full settings under OSX and with the same settings in XP Pro under bootcamp I get 40-120fps with FULL settings. I wouldn't bother with this release, unless you want to play the game at a substandard quality for the level of hardware you own.
Also the Mac version is way behind the PC version as far as patches are concerned, so there aren't many servers to play on and you cant play with your PC buddies.53 of 97 people found this useful

Same problem as another post: the single player application unexpectedly quits within seconds of launch. contacted ASPYR and looked everywhere. There seems to be no solution at the moment.

Call of Duty 4 and Logitech Dual Action gamepad
Written by JH from Evanston
Nov 7, 2008
The game looks exciting and well worth playing, if the controller from Logitech Apple sells and suggests would really work with the game. It's not the kind of game that can easily be played on a keyboard. Very disappointed that the gamepad controller Apple offers doesn't work with it. This is a pretty large error on the part of COD 4, Logitech and Apple for not making sure that the game works with a gamepad.

Not worth the money!!!
Written by BS from RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA

The positive: good graphics, realistic game play, runs flawlessly even on computers with only recommended configurations.
The negative: way too short, too linear compared to Call of Duty 2 you feel forced through missions.
Summary: not worth the $50+ dollars youll pay through the Apple store.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
finally but disappointed
Written by CB
Nov 15, 2008
well i've been playing COD2 for a long time
but i won't compare it to COD4
i haven't done the solo mission
For the multiplayer
i don't understand why there are so many planes in the sky
it's like every maps are next to an airport
when i started to play i couldn't even move because of all these explosions then i got used to it but still that's a lot
when you zoom it's like the guy took some LSD
it's not stable short breath not realistic at all
i do better hunting a bear with another on my rear
the mac version doesn't have many server
no capture the flag or a bad version of it
no replay of the person who killed you; at least you would know where the shot comes from
other than that it is ok
nothing like a revolution or something
weapons on counter strike are a lot better (the assault weapon are like for blind people on COD4)
COD2 is a lot more fun to play (at least for the moment because i'm used to it )
battlefield more stamina

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Big disappointment
Written by AS from Cam
Sep 16, 2008
There is a lot of hype about this game. It does not live up to it. The multiplayer, agreed, is relatively good. The single player is a huge let down. The level design is poor, the story is short and not as good as it could be, the graphic are mediocre and the AI, both enemy and team-mate is the worst I have ever played with. I cannot express how much hatred I have for this game, and why do people say it's so brilliant?! There are far superior games available, even for Mac. Do yourself a favour and don't buy this game. Spend your money on something more deserving, like bog roll or something.

Multiplayer Issues but Single Player Great
Written by JB from Mount Dora
Oct 9, 2008
I have been playing the PC version for a number of months and the graphics are superior on the Mac vs. the PC side running on boot camp. The multiplayer version is way behind on its compatibility with the PC and console players. The latest version for the Mac has fewer than 10% of the available servers vs. the PC side. Aspyr has promised to upgrade the Mac version to the latest PC version for server compatibility, but be aware that the multiplayer version of this game is still very limited in the number of players you can battle!

Audio Problems in Snow Leopard
Written by AS from Leicester

I really enjoyed playing this game in Leopard. However this game does not work properly in Snow Leopard. Mainly due to the fact that the Audio starts to stutter after a while. They need to come out with a patch.

Yes, multiplayer is fantastic...
Written by EE from Warner
Oct 20, 2008
The multiplayer is really what makes this game; Its frantic action and awesome rewards system creates one of the better experiences I've had playing video games.
However, I've been having trouble finding full servers, so the mp isn't really living up to its full potential.
The single player, on the other hand, is disappointing. I beat it in under 6 hours on normal and I'm pretty bad at games like this. There are some jaw-dropping moments, moments which really got my heart beating faster, but they aren't enough to make me recommend this game as a single player experience.
The graphics are incredible...but they suffer from frequent glitches that mar the general believability of the action. These glitches include bizarre, inverted reflections of the environment which can be seen in the heat rising from the flames, and bodies floating mid-air when shot off a balcony. These don't interfere with the gameplay...they're just minor annoyances.
This game is good...but is it 55 dollars good? Buy Call of Duty 2 for ten bucks on ebay and spend the rest of your money on something worthwhile...or wait until Aspyr comes out with a patch and the multiplayer community has a little time to develop.

Logitech Dual Action Will Not Work...
Written by DW from Henryetta
Nov 30, 2008
Amazing game, my all time favorite on a console so I bought it and the logitech dual action controller to extend my play to my new MBP and my new 24" LED Display, not the case. The game does not recognize a gamepad, from which I have tried several, for me the game seems to work with a gamepad instead of a keyboard and mouse. I feel that the developers should have designed that into the game, and maybe they will release a patch in due time. I would not have purchased either item with that knowledge. If anyone has a resolve please feel free to contact me so I can begin to play on my MAC as well... The game gets a 5 out of 5, the controls get a 1 star.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
somewhat enthused
Written by WM from Oakland
Dec 4, 2008
After waiting for a good amount of time for this to finally be ported to OSX. Somewhat fizzled on the outcome. That may only be because of the heavy GPU draw and inefficient use of texturing / gameplay priority allocation. The game is pretty fast paced, which is nice, hands down it's a good single player shooter, but there could have been something done about GPU coding & requirements.
If you play this game with VERY BASIC settings, with a GREAT network connection, you'll get away with about an 80% satisfaction rating on game play, IF you're not picky.
If you are, do not install this on a laptop, go straight to a tower with a 250mb card or above. (minimal)
Just as a comparison, quake wars enemy territory can be turned up to about 75% of the games settings on multi-player and mildly skip, this game if you go above MINIMAL settings you'll start hopping frames.
Hope this helps.18 of 33 people found this useful

I'm with the other fellow. Waaaay too short!!!
Way to linear - forced through them - yes.
Don't bother wasting your dollars on this one.
Beautiful graphics and very stable, etc. but there are plenty of good graphics that are longer, and don't force you through.8 of 52 people found this useful

Great game but...
Written by JK from Shawnee

The game is awesome but it needed more action
Pros:
*Great Graphics
*Great Sound
*Sorta-Great Gameplay
Cons:
Short Storyline: I don't play online. I got the game on a Saturday, and I finished it on Sunday Morning
But besides the short storyline, the game is pure awesomeness.64 of 85 people found this useful

Excellent stuff

Had doubts about buying this game, especially after reading about some of the graphics issues and freezing. Well, I bit the bullet and bought it eventually, and all I can say is its awesome !! I do agree that the easy setting means if you're a normal sort of person, you'll finish it in not very many hours, but it's still awesome going through it again on the harder settings. Had no problems with running it on my newish Macbook Pro with the game running well on the 9400 card, but was so much smoother on the 9600 card. Well done Aspyr, totally recommended

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Not a bad game, but could be better.
Written by ER from Mililani
Feb 2, 2009
For being on a Mac with the integrated graphics card, this wasn't too bad of a game. I thought the story line was good, I heard that it comes from the movie Enemy at the Gate. Anyway, I received the game on a Wednesday and I finished it that Saturday. Very short story and game, wasn't too impressed with that.
What I did like was the action of the game. The combat action seemed very realistic and the weapons fire and gun smoke, tracers, sound e.t.c were all very good and realistic. The tactics that the soldiers used were also very realistic. I spent 8 years in the U.S Army Infantry so I was looking for tactical movements and all that good stuff us Infantry guys do and they did it probably 90% of the game.
"Death From Above" mission had to be my favorite. This mission takes place in a AC-130 Gunship and you are the gunner. I have watched many videos on you tube where the camera is in the gun seat of these planes and this game looks as if they put you right in the seat of the actual gunner. The graphics were crazy and very, very, realistic in this mission, best mission over all in my opinion.
The only thing I did not like about the game is that you cannot play the enemy. You have to play the Americans or the British S.A.S. I did not like that, I think if they would let you play from the enemy perspective then the game would have gone longer and would have given more variety.
The online play is very fun and very action packed. I like the online play, if you are into Counter strike, Team Fortress, e.t.c then you will really like the online play with this game. Again, not to bad of a game, but with a few adjustments as far as putting some variety into it like being able to play from the enemy side, I think the game would have received five stars from me over all. Hope this review helps some one interested in playing the game.
