Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
BETTER THAN PC VERSION - OUTSTANDING!
Written by DR from FREWVILLE
Oct 29, 2008
I have just purchased the MAC version after playing the same game on a PC (single player and multiplayer with my son).
Yes, I am lucky enough to have the latest iMAC 24" running at 3Ghz, the NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 and 4 Gigs of RAM.
The game is superb. Much better than PC - with no lag. Even whith the large screen 'spitting multiple enemy' and lots of carnage. Best MAC Game available for the First-Person-Shooter! Seriously Good.
I hope that COD5 (I understand very, very nice) is being worked on now .... it will bring Mac into mainstaream very quickly.34 of 45 people found this useful

Great game, great performance.

Fantastic, it is about time a good game came out for mac, one that runs smoothly and for the first time uses the full potential of the computer you dented your wallet for.
Game runs great at 1280x800, resolution is plenty high with anti-aliasing set to 2x. Set texture details set on high and extra, turn off depth of field and smooth smoke edges etc... looks great and yields 30+fps

Played a few Multiplayer matches works perfect. agian. its about time this game hits mac.

Perfect Game for the Perfect Gamer
Written by AR from Boonville
Oct 24, 2008
I had purchased a MacBook Pro 3 months ago and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare runs perfect on it with medium settings. Single player is short and easy to complete. The multiplayer is even better, however there aren't many servers as there is with the PC version. I do recommend a cooling pad if you are going to be using this game for your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.

Same problem as another post: the single player application unexpectedly quits within seconds of launch. contacted ASPYR and looked everywhere. There seems to be no solution at the moment.

My favorite Game
Written by MH from Germantown

This is by far the greatest game i have on my mac. The graphics are perfect and it hardly ever lags. The campaign is great and the characters really develope throughout the story. Multiplayer is definitely the greatest part of the game. The challenges and experience points really make it fun. I have an old 2006 desktop with leapord and it runs perfectly

Doesn't work with limited support from ASPYR
Written by NM from THE WOODLANDS
Oct 20, 2008
I installed the game on my MacBook Pro 2.5 core duo as soon as it arrived from the Apple online store and it doesn't run. Every time I run I get an error that "The COD4 Application quit unexpectedly" on single player and sometimes multiplayer runs, sometimes not.
I called Aspyr technical support and went through 2 rounds, one being remove install and reinstall, the other being remove install and reinstall under admin account. It should work but doesn't and we can help you was the final answer.
Seems like it would be a fun game game if it worked. I can't even return it as it is opened software so I am out $55.50 of 83 people found this useful

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Yes, multiplayer is fantastic...
Written by EE from Warner

The multiplayer is really what makes this game; Its frantic action and awesome rewards system creates one of the better experiences I've had playing video games.
However, I've been having trouble finding full servers, so the mp isn't really living up to its full potential.
The single player, on the other hand, is disappointing. I beat it in under 6 hours on normal and I'm pretty bad at games like this. There are some jaw-dropping moments, moments which really got my heart beating faster, but they aren't enough to make me recommend this game as a single player experience.
The graphics are incredible...but they suffer from frequent glitches that mar the general believability of the action. These glitches include bizarre, inverted reflections of the environment which can be seen in the heat rising from the flames, and bodies floating mid-air when shot off a balcony. These don't interfere with the gameplay...they're just minor annoyances.
This game is good...but is it 55 dollars good? Buy Call of Duty 2 for ten bucks on ebay and spend the rest of your money on something worthwhile...or wait until Aspyr comes out with a patch and the multiplayer community has a little time to develop.

Poor Performace
Written by DK from Carrickfergus
Oct 16, 2008
Anyone who says that this game runs on full settings on a Mac Book Pro is somewhat glossing over the truth.
I have a 2008 Mac Pro 8 core with 8800GT and 2GB of RAM. I have to lower the graphics settings considerably to get the game up to a playable frame rate. My Mac gets 10-15fps with full settings under OSX and with the same settings in XP Pro under bootcamp I get 40-120fps with FULL settings. I wouldn't bother with this release, unless you want to play the game at a substandard quality for the level of hardware you own.
Also the Mac version is way behind the PC version as far as patches are concerned, so there aren't many servers to play on and you cant play with your PC buddies.53 of 97 people found this useful

I love playing Halo on my mac but I am pretty bad at it. Until COD4 it was the only game worth buying to me. I got this game when it came for mac right when I heard about it and absolutely love it! The one player is great, but what shines for me is the multiplayer!
It is a simple decision to make. If have looked at this game and think you will like it, it will be. get it and love it!28 of 38 people found this useful

The only games that I only used to play on my iMac were Halo and Halo Demo, but I was excited when I received this game yesterday. It truly is a change from the former games, but this game is just awesome. Every level is a challenge and the multiplayer is really, really fun. I recommend this game to anybody who anybody likes action games. This truly is a seller. Take it from me, you won't be disappointed.

It awesome that mac is finally coming out with games like this but why do no stores even sell em? I even went to my local apple store and they didn't have COD 4. Awesome game but they need to start actually selling it somewhere.

Multiplayer Issues but Single Player Great
Written by JB from Mount Dora
Oct 9, 2008
I have been playing the PC version for a number of months and the graphics are superior on the Mac vs. the PC side running on boot camp. The multiplayer version is way behind on its compatibility with the PC and console players. The latest version for the Mac has fewer than 10% of the available servers vs. the PC side. Aspyr has promised to upgrade the Mac version to the latest PC version for server compatibility, but be aware that the multiplayer version of this game is still very limited in the number of players you can battle!

I'm not shocked that the game runs perfect on my Mac Pro. But what had me impressed is how well it runs on the MacBook Pro and iMac 24" as well!
Now Mac users can finally experience one of the best games in the Call of Duty series, and this will hopefully open up the market to even more popular games developed for OS X seeing how popular COD4 is!14 of 19 people found this useful

I bought a brand new MBP like 3 months ago, and I am also a gamer... at first i thought there won't be much great games for Mac since it is not really developed for game purposes, and the review of the other games that are on the market is not tempting at all...bought CoD4 to give it a shot, so far so good. Except for a some sound compatibility issues while loading the game, but it does not really matter..but the graphics to meds, and it work out all fine and nice, but i do not recommend mighty mouse for the mouse choice...im thinking of getting the deathadder or just a normal logitech mouse...

COD4 On Mac
Written by GH from Putney

Finally!! A little late to the game but no problem. I bought a MBP from apple and did not upgrade, just played as is, and on even the maxed out settings this game runs great. No glitches, a couple hiccups, but no real problems. The servers have ppl on them 24/7 so don't worry about not playing online. I highly recommend this for any gaming mac user.
