Exceptional game, runs great on old iMac 24" max detail...

    Written by CM from Troy

    Dec 6, 2008

I have to admit, I went through the single player pretty fast but the multiplayer is pretty darn fun. I have played a number of multiplayer games and this one ranks up there (BF2 is still my favorite). It is a little chaotic at first as you seem to die constantly but you rank up quickly and get better weapons and skills that help you compete better in the game.

Have read a bunch of complaints about how their Mac does not run the game well but I have not had a problem with a 1+ year old iMac 24" (bought it right after they were announced. I run the graphics on full specs and connect wirelessly to an airport extreme and have very low pings and no issues.

Definitely a must buy game. I look forward to more and more games being made available for the Mac.

I will say I have been gaming on a PC so long getting over the lack of a right click button for sighting weapons was a little challenging but I don't really miss it now.

    Silky Smooth and Absolutely Gorgeous

    Written by MH from Smithfield

I put this on my new 13 inch Macbook 2.4 ghz and it's been the easiest, most satisfying computer game installs yet. The game worked perfect right out of the box and runs gorgeous. Online has been great, and maybe it's just because I played a game on a computer in ages, but I'm happily amazed that I can play against PC nerds with my Mac copy. There are always tons of games to choose from.

The graphics are the best I've seen in a game yet, and It's running like a dream.

    somewhat enthused

    Written by WM from Oakland

    Dec 4, 2008

After waiting for a good amount of time for this to finally be ported to OSX. Somewhat fizzled on the outcome. That may only be because of the heavy GPU draw and inefficient use of texturing / gameplay priority allocation. The game is pretty fast paced, which is nice, hands down it's a good single player shooter, but there could have been something done about GPU coding & requirements.
If you play this game with VERY BASIC settings, with a GREAT network connection, you'll get away with about an 80% satisfaction rating on game play, IF you're not picky.
If you are, do not install this on a laptop, go straight to a tower with a 250mb card or above. (minimal)
Just as a comparison, quake wars enemy territory can be turned up to about 75% of the games settings on multi-player and mildly skip, this game if you go above MINIMAL settings you'll start hopping frames.
    Hope this helps.

    It's More Addictive Than, . . . Nevermind!

Written by SF from Fair Lawn

I just felt compelled to meantion that this game specifically is by far the best $55 bucks YOU'LL EVER SPEND! Call of Duty is awesome; especially CoD 4. My husband is the real addict in the family. He can't go one day with playing less than at least 4 hours of CoD 4. He bought this for our iMac 24" as well as for our XBOX 360. He says that it is HANDS DOWN Much Better on the Mac vs. XBOX 360.
The mouse & keyboard make it much easier to play.

You won't stop playing this game multi-user. We recommend the 'Free For All' mode!

Logitech Dual Action Will Not Work...

    Written by DW from Henryetta

    Nov 30, 2008

Amazing game, my all time favorite on a console so I bought it and the logitech dual action controller to extend my play to my new MBP and my new 24" LED Display, not the case. The game does not recognize a gamepad, from which I have tried several, for me the game seems to work with a gamepad instead of a keyboard and mouse. I feel that the developers should have designed that into the game, and maybe they will release a patch in due time. I would not have purchased either item with that knowledge. If anyone has a resolve please feel free to contact me so I can begin to play on my MAC as well... The game gets a 5 out of 5, the controls get a 1 star.

Hands Down. Just put your hands down. 5-Star all the way!

Written by MF from Fair Lawn

Call of Duty is a cult or even a religeon. It's insanely addictive. I've heard that before and can now say that. Seriously, it's probably the best game concept I've ever played. Version wise, I've played CoD 2, 3, 4 & now 5 on XBOX 360. CoD 4 Modern Warfare is by far the best (runner up is CoD 2). I bought it for my iMac 24" and I'm in a different world when I play. I recently splurged & also bought it for my brand new XBOX 360. In all honesty, I enjoy it on the Mac far greater than on XBOX. Using a mouse makes attacking & moving a lot easier.
Do yourself a favor & buy this 5-star game before CoD 6 comes out and this isn't available anymore.
(oh yes, CoD 4 Modern Warfare is MUCH better than the latest World At War CoD 5, which isn't available for the Mac as of this post).

I never thought that my new mac would become my main source of gaming, but ever since i got this game it has been. This game is just simply amazing, great graphics, realistic sounds, just plain best first person shooter out there, and the fact they have it for the mac just makes it that much better.

Really works beautifully on my new Mac !!

    Written by CH from Austin

    Incredible!!
Gargantuan improvements over Call for Duty 2 (also works well on Macs).

Stunning graphics, powerful sound track, adjustable skill levels and plenty of random tangents to ever mission. The Arcade mode is very much appreciated, too.

Best of all, this games does not require any kind of special controls - just your favorite keyboard and mouse (both of mine are wireless, too).

I enjoy replaying missions, adjusting the skill level, and trying different tactics. The sniper rifle is still my favorite, but the door gun on the helicopter was a lot of fun, too.

This game can give you nightmares and I'm often numb when I push away from the computer, but it reminds me of why I love the computer so much. I've played game boxes, too, but it's not the same or as exciting.

    It's good stuff.

Mac OS 10.5.5 Leopard (Current Nov 2008)
ATI Radeon 2600Xt video card (256MB)

    finally but disappointed

    Written by CB

    Nov 15, 2008

well i've been playing COD2 for a long time
    but i won't compare it to COD4
i haven't done the solo mission
    For the multiplayer
i don't understand why there are so many planes in the sky
it's like every maps are next to an airport
when i started to play i couldn't even move because of all these explosions then i got used to it but still that's a lot
when you zoom it's like the guy took some LSD
it's not stable short breath not realistic at all
i do better hunting a bear with another on my rear
the mac version doesn't have many server
no capture the flag or a bad version of it
no replay of the person who killed you; at least you would know where the shot comes from
other than that it is ok
nothing like a revolution or something
weapons on counter strike are a lot better (the assault weapon are like for blind people on COD4)
COD2 is a lot more fun to play (at least for the moment because i'm used to it )
    battlefield more stamina

Example of How A Game Exceeds a Movie

Written by AN from Los Angeles

COD4 was a visceral and moving game, a mixture of FPS with great story. This game surprised me in so many ways; I was glad to see that it did not glorify nor denounce war rather it presented war from many sides, made it personal in a way, offered quotes about war from historical figures... a must play.

Call of Duty 4 and Logitech Dual Action gamepad

    Written by JH from Evanston

    Nov 7, 2008

The game looks exciting and well worth playing, if the controller from Logitech Apple sells and suggests would really work with the game. It's not the kind of game that can easily be played on a keyboard. Very disappointed that the gamepad controller Apple offers doesn't work with it. This is a pretty large error on the part of COD 4, Logitech and Apple for not making sure that the game works with a gamepad.
