Wait to buy Version 3 until developers fix the Sales Tax flaw
Written by RC from San Diego

The newly introduced version 3 introduces a major error: sales taxes cannot be disabled (which you would need to do when selling to an out-of-state customer). Even if you unselect the sales tax option in an Order, the software mysteriously reintroduces sales taxes in the total due when you convert Order to Invoice. There is no way for a user to circumvent this flaw.
Tech support has been apprised, but does not know when the development team will fix this problem.
If you make untaxed sales, wait until the developers fix this flaw before you buy version 3. Alternatively, ask to buy version 2 which does not suffer from this problem.7 of 8 people found this useful

MYOB Checkout
great for small business

I really like the Checkout product. It's easy to use and more importantly, easy to set up quickly for a small store.
It's really built for little stores, although more features are promised each year. It has easy hardware requirements, and best of all, it works with my accounting package, AccountEdge.
Some of the features it has I like are:
You can add a register really easily - just install checkout on your new register and connect them via Bonjour!
It works with AccountEdge's merchant services, so I didn't have to set up a new account.
It comes with some nice reports. You can also customize your own if you want, but I use the management reports.
It has a nice Ending Tills feature that I use to verify daily deposits (and also ensures an honest staff).
It is easy to add or change an inventory item when I need to.
There is security levels for staff people - so they can do what you need them to. I like this feature, because our manager has more clearance than employees.
I think Checkout has really been a great help to my business!13 of 14 people found this useful

MYOB Checkout
No Thanks

I've bought checkout 2.0 earlier this year and had to abandon the product due to huge general limitations.
Make sure you test the demo thoroughly and good luck getting someone on the phone to answer your questions!25 of 42 people found this useful

Good entry Point of Sales
Written by SW from Santa Fe

My wife and I recently returned from a presentation/training on Checkout. We use MYOB AccountEdge for bookkeeping, and wanted to see if Checkout could give us an integrated solution (we use PayGO for our Point of Sales).
Checkout is very intuitive, simple to set up and use, and is way less expensive than many of the other apps out there. MYOB offers packages, so you can get all the hardware needed as well. You can even get a charge-card swiper, so no chance for error in entering charged amounts into a separate unit (important note - it will not process debit cards). And it is Mac-only, so none of this "some features will not work on a Mac" garbage from the PC-centric software. My wife, who is a pro with PayGo, concluded she could set up and start using Checkout immediately.
Now, the downside: It does not track inventory sales history - a BIG negative for us in one of our stores - it gets cumbersome with large inventory, and you have to use a third-party app to print labels, although it works with a scanner to read printed barcodes. Plus, the integration with AccountEdge is through journal entries, so I still have to manually enter payments from sales (that was a disappointment).
I would recommend this to smaller retailers who are currently using spreadsheets (or memory!) and manual cash registers for their inventory and sales. It is an excellent entry into computerized Point of Sales systems. We are considering it for our store where the inventory is less. We like our local merchant services, so will probably not include the card swiper.
The MYOB folks are friendly and very knowledgeable, and they promote a network of consultants who can help users set up and use their software. MYOB is constantly working on upgrades and improvements, so we look forward to more powerful versions of Checkout that we could use in all of our stores.57 of 58 people found this useful
