Ok product, way too expensive for what it does

    Written by MD from Quebec

    Pros:
    - A good numbers of features (not as in Quicken but Ibank is clearly not aimed at the same users).
    - Iphone App to interact with (still not free)
    - MobileME sync

    Cons:
    - WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. As stated by another reviewer, 29.99$ max should be advised.
    - Interface should be refined. Some part are too small or too big..
    - Sometimes feels like 'Beta' software
    - CLEARLY not enough bank to download from (Direct Downloads)

    iBank impressions

It is such a pity that Apple does not take a greater interest in helping someone fill this large but basic void in MAC software. I have concluded that you cannot absolutely trust any of the available software to correctly create and manage accounts nor add/subtract from account to account without supervision. Having said that, this product can do what Quicken can and is more visually appealing. I do think it is basically functional but at times I had to trick it into doing what I wanted on setup. I recommend you check and double check everything on setup. Also, I think importing data to do the setup is a huge mistake. Just start anew at the last reconcile date and keep the old data in a backup under the old program. After doing this, so far it is working fine. I should say I do not trust a lot of bank importing either so I avoid it too. Average overall with room to improve.

A good alternative to Quicken for Mac 2007

Written by JC from Fort Worth

This product integrates with I Cal and has a great user interface along with an app for I phone to keep in sync.

This is a great alternative to Quicken for Mac. Unfortunately, it uses the same auto download format that quicken uses and many banks downloadable files are not capatible for Mac, yet. The way around this is to down load the files to a folder and then import them into I Bank.

If you are going to use a Mac product this is the one to get. The best alternative is to use Quicken 2009 premium with Parallels. If you don't want to use windows products at all, then this is the product for you.

The best of what's out there

iBank is a work-in-progress. The one star reviews are a bit unfair. I'm still using MS Money via VMFusion, but wanted to see what was available as MS Money sunsets in a year. Have tried MoneyDance, MoneyWell, MyMoney, Money 3.3.3, and iBank is the best.

It has about 75% of the functionality that MS Money or Quicken has. Good functionality for OFX "Direct Connect" banks (most banks), isn't able to handle "WebConnect" banks like HSBC.

At $59.99 it is too expensive (considering that they are still adding what some would consider to be fundamental features). The last time I bought MS Money is was $39.99 and that was for a mature and extremely robust product. Would suggest that iBank "rightsize" the price to $29.99 - 34.99.

    Too Basic for Money Users

    Written by TK from Tolleson

When I received a new MacBook Air I needed a Mac solution to replace MS Money (after 10 years+). Unfortunately, iBank falls short of this even for basic needs. As other reviewers have mentioned, the lack of online bill payment is problematic. I would also appreciate the option to review all payments to a single payee (for example, show me a screen with all my car payments, the total and details about the payee). Because there's no bill payment function, the reminders should have the option to add notes. Many of my bills are paid automatically but I don't always remember which ones, so I would like to have notations in the reminders screen. Reconciling accounts is also very tricky at first; it gets simpler with practice but it's not user friendly at all. One final and important point--there are several references to using iBank Mobile with the iPhone but it's nowhere to be found in the App Store! I will probably have to stay with iBank since I've invested lots of blood, sweat and tears to get this far but I will keep looking for a better solution--yes, one that's more like MS Money!

Not competitive with Quicken yet but getting there

    Written by CO from Honolulu

The set up of accounts and downloads was easy. The page for selecting items to download is waaaay too tiny. Who can figure out what they're doing in a 2 inch space??

Categories were easy to select but the ones I added don't show up on the charts -- have to hand-add them. Too time consuming!

The Reconcile process is very confusing. Doesn't use the same Total Additions and Total Subtractions that banks use which make it easy to catch errors. Needs a short tutorial on how to reconcile.

Check writing and printing are easy enough. I hope the program is stable. Quicken on the Mac has been giving me problems for the past 10 months! May have to buy a PC just to get accurate financial records if this doesn't work.
