    Doesn't support VANGUARD INVESTMENTS!

    Written by JS from Athens

    Dec 6, 2009

This is an iBank problem, and their support staff says they have no current plans to remedy this (in an online statement as of 11/09, they say, "Adding support for OFX 2.0 would be a significant undertaking, and we do not yet have plans to do so, so there is currently no ETA for Vanguard support."). Vanguard is one of the major players in the financial markets, and they use version 2.0 of the OFX protocol, and iBank only supports version 1.0.2. So don't buy this product if you're expecting to be able to download transactions directly from Vanguard. And as more institutions adopt OFX 2.0, you may be left without download capabilities.

At long last - a suitable Mac alternative

    Written by CS from Alpharetta

    Dec 4, 2009

I have been a Quicken user for 12+years and it was the sole reason I held on to a PC - a lonely machine in the basement used exclusively for Quicken. I am happy to report its passing. To be sure, IBank does not have all the features of Quicken, but most of those features are bloat anyway. For how I, and I think most people, REALLY use financial software it is a refreshing improvement; fast, simple, and clean. As others have noted, unlike most of the web based or other light weight applications, it allows you to plan, not just track transactions. That is critical for me, projecting cash flow is the key reason for having software like this in the first place.

    Does just fine

    Written by DD from Urbandale

I needed a software program that projected finances and could handle all accounts when switching from PC to MAC. While there are many that do a good job of tracking where your money goes, for an independent consultant I need PROJECTIONS based on future transactions. I was a longtime MS Money user and while this program does not do everything Money did, I find it very easy and basically it does what I need right now.

Ok product, way too expensive for what it does

    Written by MD from Quebec

    Nov 15, 2009

    Pros:
    - A good numbers of features (not as in Quicken but Ibank is clearly not aimed at the same users).
    - Iphone App to interact with (still not free)
    - MobileME sync

    Cons:
    - WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. As stated by another reviewer, 29.99$ max should be advised.
    - Interface should be refined. Some part are too small or too big..
    - Sometimes feels like 'Beta' software
    - CLEARLY not enough bank to download from (Direct Downloads)

    Frustration

    Written by DO from edgewater

    Nov 15, 2009

After using MS Money for several years and making the switch to Macs, I cannot find an acceptable alternative. iBank has an acceptable appearance but that's the best I can say. Entering accounts is simple to include stocks, checking and money market accounts. This is when the problems begin. Don't have a stock that declares bankruptcy, iBank does not know how to handle this issue and it remains on the portfolio list after numerous means of deleting it. Balancing (reconciling) checking accounts is not intuitive. You are prompted to name a file for each month, drag reconciled transactions to the upper half of the transaction screen where they are filed in the one you just created. After you complete the balancing of the account, you would expect some sort of prompt that you are balanced or or off and then direct you to automatically subtract/add or review transactions, yet no prompt is provided.

    Quality and Service

    Written by JD from Greensboro

    Nov 11, 2009

iBank is straight forward and easy to use, offering all the tools that we've come to expect from financial software for personal banking, and the service is exceptional. My bank changed its way of handling internet downloads and iBank support was fast and efficient in helping me workaround the disruption. The attentive care and concern is worth way more than the cost of the software, making this the best value on any market!

    Not Ready For Prime TIme

    Written by RB from Paris

For simple personal financing the user interface is excellent. For small business use, the report options are weak and limited. To enter a credit in an expense categories is difficult and in no way intuitive. After two months of use, I am looking for another option.

    WELL DONE!!

    Written by JW from Liberty

Finally, a product that is not so proprietary and arrogant and is compatible with QFX, OFX, and QFX formats. Works extremely easy and well with all of the features at my own bank's Online Banking solution including Bill Pay. A great product and highly recommended alternative to the giant players in the personal financial software products. WELL DONE, and thank you.

    iBank impressions

    Written by BD from Soldotna

It is such a pity that Apple does not take a greater interest in helping someone fill this large but basic void in MAC software. I have concluded that you cannot absolutely trust any of the available software to correctly create and manage accounts nor add/subtract from account to account without supervision. Having said that, this product can do what Quicken can and is more visually appealing. I do think it is basically functional but at times I had to trick it into doing what I wanted on setup. I recommend you check and double check everything on setup. Also, I think importing data to do the setup is a huge mistake. Just start anew at the last reconcile date and keep the old data in a backup under the old program. After doing this, so far it is working fine. I should say I do not trust a lot of bank importing either so I avoid it too. Average overall with room to improve.

A good alternative to Quicken for Mac 2007

Written by JC from Fort Worth

    Sep 26, 2009

This product integrates with I Cal and has a great user interface along with an app for I phone to keep in sync.

This is a great alternative to Quicken for Mac. Unfortunately, it uses the same auto download format that quicken uses and many banks downloadable files are not capatible for Mac, yet. The way around this is to down load the files to a folder and then import them into I Bank.

If you are going to use a Mac product this is the one to get. The best alternative is to use Quicken 2009 premium with Parallels. If you don't want to use windows products at all, then this is the product for you.

Quicken is now out of my life.

    Buy from iBank not Apple

    Written by TL from Dunwoody

    Aug 23, 2009

It is better than Quicken for Mac, but not nearly as good as Quicken for Windows. If you buy from Apple or anyone else and don't like it you're out $60. If you buy from iBank online you can try for 30 days and if you don't like it you can get a full refund. I wish I could get my $60 back.

I was a longtime quicken/PC user. The financial changeover has been very challenging and not yet resolved.

    Great Product - Very Pleased

    Written by BS from York

    Aug 22, 2009

In fact great products plural, because I have the iPhone app as well as iBank for my MacBook Pro. I have been a Quicken user for many a long year before switching to Apple. Tired of waiting for the UK version of Quicken for Mac, I bought iBank. I have had no regrets whatsoever. Does everything I want and does it well. The synching with the iPhone is smooth and quick. In my opinion, it looks good too. Support is excellent. Finally, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a work in progress. Yes, I'm well satisfied with my purchases.

I was given a mac as a gift, I was so used to Quicken but tried I-bank since quicken won't work on my new OS. I-bank is awful, I hate it. It's not user friendly, nothing about it is easy.

Managing money was never so much fun!

    Written by AW from SALISBURY

    Aug 21, 2009

I have tried a few personal accounting packages recently and although I'm really only starting to get to grips with iBank I already love it for a number of reasons; it's intuitive, has the best and most comprehensive manual I've seen, is extremely Apple-like, it links to iCal to give transaction reminders if necessary, AND, best of all, it even links to my iPhone via Mobile Me so I can check and add to my financial records on the move. Equally importantly, their customer services are not only extremely helpful and quick to respond but are also unusually proactive. Managing money was never so much fun!

A Solid Product That Keeps Getting Better

    Written by JC from Scottsdale

    Aug 18, 2009

iBank, like most software is an evolving product. Recent updates have taken it to a whole new level where it now is very powerful, stable and easy to use. It is obvious to me that the publisher is paying attention to its customers and is tailoring the product to meet customer needs rather than taking a "here it is" attitude. My only problem is that I got used to the insane way Quicken for Mac works so doing things the simple way has taken some adjustment. :) Seriously! Importing from direct download banks requires one click for all direct download accounts. Banks that require the user to initiate a download from their websites don't pose much of a hassle because iBank will open Safari within itself and grab the download file and initiate the import into the correct file. This is worlds better than Quicken and there is no cleanup of the downloads folder afterward.

IGG seems excited about what it is doing as a company and wants to keep fine-tuning this product to meet customer needs and expectations. There is room to grow, certainly. Check printing is not as robust as it could be but it is adequate and will grow over time, I'm sure. But already this eclipses Quicken and is Universal Binary and ready for the move to Snow Leopard whereas Quicken will need the bulk of Rosetta to be installed in order to run it. This is a perfect time to make the change to something better.

    Very pleased ...

    Written by TJ from Greensburg

    Aug 12, 2009

I am a former user of Quickbooks and am very happily satisfied with IBank ... It has been the easiest software I've seen for personal accounting. Most of the large accounting software programs are to complex and not simplified enough for just general household management but was pleasantly surprised. Another plus was the cost ... again, the larger companies are very expensive but this software was easy on the budget. Love it !!!

I'm so disappointed in iBank. It doesn't support almost any of the financial institutions that our family uses...including some of the big ones...Vanguard, Fidelity, Wells Fargo, etc. Without proper institutional support, it's useless!

Needs a lot of work, crashes are routine, several bugs noted

Written by RS from PRESCOTT VALLEY

    Jul 21, 2009

I purchased this application directly through the developers website. I was impressed, for a few minutes. There is a lot of eye candy in this application, but it really falls short as a financial manager. I loaded all my accounts and grouped all my transactions into categories, relatively easy process in ibank. Soon thereafter, ibank started to crash on a routine bases; most the time while entering/editing a transaction. Another shortfall is that credit cards are handled like a bank account. No credit limit remaining and balances show as positive cash rather than negative amount owed. After entering all my data and using the application for about a month, my amex transactions can no longer be seen, even though the balance is shown in the account tree. Way to many bugs to list. I recommend you go to the forum and look at the problems encountered by others before purchasing. I think there is potential in the long haul for ibank, but will take a lot of work to get there.
