Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
MACBOOK'S BEST VALUE BLUETOOTH LASER MOUSE
Written by AB
Jan 1, 2008
Consider what I have always wanted in a mouse and why I prefer a Logitech v470 mouse over Apples Wireless Mighty Mouse (WMM) for my Macbook:
1. BLUETOOTH WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY- wireless freedom. No messy wires. And no external USB receiver/dongle that takes up one of the USB ports. Both v470 and WMM have bluetooth.
2. LASER TECHNOLOGY -Laser precision technology delivers smoother cursor control on virtually any surface. Both v470 and WMM have laser.
3. TWO-BUTTON MOUSE- I find v470 easier to use compared to the WMM. The right-click in WMM works best when only one finger is in contact with the right part of the mouse.
4. FORM & STYLE- V470s color is white and matches my macbook perfectly. It fits nicely into even larger hands and has a built in battery indicator near the scroll wheel. The WMM just feels so flat.
5. DURABILITY - V470 has a light and a very solid overall design. Logitech is known for durability.
6. SCROLL WHEEL - The v470 has a wheel that can be rocked from side to side. Scrolling is smooth and accurate. The WMMs scroll ball usually stops working when dirt gets inside the ball which means you have to clean it regularly.
7. BATTERY INDICATOR - The v470 has a battery indicator light built in the mouse whereas WMM has none. The v470 has a battery life of up to 4 months. There is an on-off switch to conserve the battery
8. EXTRAS - The v470 comes with its own carry pouch to protect it from scratches.
9. BEST VALUE BLUETOOTH LASER MOUSE- I find all the features I want in Logitechs v470 and is priced at 50 dollars compared to Apples WMM priced at 70 dollars.

Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
I'm pleased with it
Written by SR from Tempe

I received the V470 about six weeks ago and have generally been happy with it. The native drivers in 10.4 / 10.5 work well, including the horizontal scroll, so I didn't install the Logitech Control Center pref panel.
I've used it heavily at home and work with no problems. If the mouse is left on with no activity for an extended period (say overnight), then it takes a few seconds of motion to bring back the connection. I would expect this as a battery saving feature. I have had no problem with the bluetooth link dropping or unpairing, and I really like not having to use up a USB port for a separate receiver.329 of 477 people found this useful

Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
Very Satisfied
Written by SC from Little Neck

I read many negative reviews of Mighty Mouse and decided to go to this product.
This has very elegant feel to it (if you were thinking about MM because of its beauty, this won't let you down either). And clicking is easier than MM that I tried in Apple retail store. This mouse also supports 4 way scroll (I didn't know until I received it; so 360 degree scroll is doable) and no laser beam (red light that you expect) comes out to hurt your eyes (I don't know how this laser works). This might be small for the people with big hands but for me it's perfect. 20 bucks difference is not that much (Most of Apple products are more expensive than other counterparts anyways) but since I read about scroll ball problems in almost all of the MM reviews, I decided it's not worth the trouble. This is a big win for Logitech (yes it provides great looking pouch too) and well connected to Bluetooth of my Macbook.73 of 100 people found this useful

Awesome Mouse

Iv had this mouse for about a month now, and it works great with my new macbook. I got this mouse after reading some reviews about the mighty mouse and how the right click didnt always work, i was afraid maybe id be missing out on some more apple innovation, but iv never had a better mouse. the connection stays solid all the time and hasnt failed me yet, the buttons are light and responsive, and the scroll wheel works great with the side to side scrolling. the design is nice and compact yet not so small you feel like nothings under your hand. other pluses are it matches my white macbook and came with a carrying case if i ever need to travel with it.

Only one complaint
Written by JS from Fort Riley
Jul 11, 2008
I've been working with the V470 Bluetooth Mouse for a couple of days now and have had a chance to notice one thing that could use improvement. Whenever you don't use the mouse for awhile and it goes into "idle" mode it takes awhile for the pointer to respond to movement once you use the mouse again. This is a bit annoying because for the first second or two the pointer is jittery and doesn't move smoothly across the screen. It wouldn't be such a problem if it didn't do it so often. Seriously, every time I don't use the mouse for a few seconds it acts this way. Logitech needs to correct this issue if they want to contend with the Mighty Mouse. The Mighty Mouse never did this.

Excellent once you Repair Disk Permissions
Written by PM from CHICAGO

This mouse is one of the best I've ever used but it took a little work to get it there. If you are having any problems with the mouse skipping, jumping, freezing up, losing connection, etc, it's a simple fix: Go to your Applications folder>Utilites>Disk Utility. When it opens, select your Hard Drive from the list on the left and click "Repair Disk Permissions". Voila! Mouse will work like a dream.

LOVE IT! (BECAUSE IT DOES WORK WITH LEOPARD!)

This mouse is GREAT egronomically and on the wallet, from function to design the V470 laser mouse is greatly appreciated. I just purchased the V470 a couple weeks ago for my 15"MBP and the Blue Tooth connection is great and it frees up an extra USB port for whatever else i may need it for (unlike some of the other wireless mouses on the market). As far as connectivity, I have had no problems establishing a connection, I can be about six feet away from my MBP and can still point and click. Also setting up my V470 was as easy as turning on my MBP litterally (but that's the way macs are built). If anyone is thinking about getting a wireless mouse may I suggest you get this over Apples Wireless Mighty Mouse (WMM), it is a hundred times more egronomical, clickincg and scorolling is smoth and twice as easy and well if money is a factor it cost alot less than the WMM. Besides the fact that the Logitech V470 in my opinion looks a lot cooler sleeker and more stylized than the WMM. And it works with Leopard to say the least!

Problems seem fixed!
Written by AP from New York

I also had some of the problems mentioned, but then I saw the post on AUgust 29, 2008 by PM from Chicago: "If you are having any problems with the mouse skipping, jumping, freezing up, losing connection, etc, it's a simple fix: Go to your Applications folder>Utilites>Disk Utility. When it opens, select your Hard Drive from the list on the left and click "Repair Disk Permissions". Voila! Mouse will work like a dream."
I did that (it takes a few minutes) and it seems to work flawlessly now. I give it 4 stars because the jury is still out and also because Logitech could have figured it out and provided a fix.30 of 30 people found this useful

I Love This Mouse!

It was pretty easy to set up (once I found the reset button on the bottom). I am using it on an iMac (not a notebook) Love the right click and the roller wheel. This mouse is much nicer than the mighty mouse that came with my computer - a more natural fit to my hand. I highly recommend it!

I bought this a month ago for my mac book pro. It took an hour to get it to connect, and get everything set up. But since then I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to reconnect but it just can't. This mouse doesn't work. I called Logitech and they said that Mac had changed some key numbers that inhibited it from working! Don't buy this till they fix it, it's not worth the headache! And returning it has been a nightmare!

Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
mostly good

Overall I like the mouse a lot, having finally given up on the wireless Mighty Mouse. This one has a right-click button that always works.
What I don't like about it is that sometimes when my hand isn't on the mouse, it will go through a rapid cycle of putting messages up on the screen that read "mouse disconnected", then "mouse connected", then "mouse disconnected", etc. I'm not sure what triggers this or what makes it go away.
Also, less often, the button won't register. I'll think my Mac is frozen until I try clicking with the trackpad, which works fine. When this happens I can fix it by turning the mouse off and then on again.41 of 61 people found this useful

Great Mouse!

This mouse was not available at the mac store when i purchased my macbook a week ago. After purchasing my computer, i went to fry's to check out what bluetooth mouses were available. I had my eye on a microsoft one until i walked passed this logitech one. The main reason why i chose this mouse was because i purchased a white computer, and this one matched the computer. Once i got home, it was as simple as turning on the mouse and clicking on the bluetooth button on the computer. Thats it. I didnt even have to load the logitech control center program. The laser pointer is very accurate, the scroll wheel allows you to scroll up, down, left and right. Overall, its just a fabulous mouse.

amazing product. no usb hanging from laptop anymore, all wireless and bluetooth. works with all versions of windows from boot camp, even 64 bit. you can also set the middle button for cascading windows in vista which is cool. I also use it for expose in mac. great connection, good product. BUT very expensive in apple store, try buy.com, which is 15 dollars after rebate, which is 50 dollars cheaper.

Works almost all the time.
Written by MC from Oakville

The V470 is a great notebook mouse that has many great and unique features. Particularly, I find a great use for the side-to-side (left/right) scrolling feature, which is really useful on my 13" MacBook.
Otherwise, there may be some connectivity issues, that will require you to remove the mouse from the list of Bluetooth devices on your computer, and re-search for it.

Logitech V470 Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks
Very good, but not perfect.
Written by BG from Hampton

I've owned this mouse now for several weeks. Not long enough to comment on battery life, so far, but I can say that for a mouse its performance is decent. This is, by definition, a portable mouse so it's somewhat small. I have large hands and I was worried that this would be an issue, but it turns out that it's not too bad at all.
With that being said, I'm not certain whether all bluetooth mice seem to be jumpy, or if I've just been having lousy luck. After leaving the mouse still for about 10 seconds (or any amount of time longer) when you first move it it'll jump a bit. You'll have to do that "Ok, where's the cursor" thing for a second or two, but then you find it and it works fairly well. It does not perform well at all with the native Mac mouse driver, but once you install the Logitech software and play with the settings a bit, it tracks and scrolls much better and with an accuracy as good or better than any other bluetooth mouse I've used. I try to avoid installing unnecessary software but the Logitech Control Center makes a big difference here.
As for physical design, Logitech did a great job. It feels solid and well-built. The buttons and scroll wheel button give a nice satisfying click, with just the right amount of resistance. Of course, all the buttons are programmable. I honestly feel like I could throw it across the room and it'd come back for more - which is good since as a portable device it's intended to travel. Like I said before: the mouse is a bit small, but it's got a nice steep curve to it so it's easy to grip and I don't get cramps in my hand from trying to use it. You can tell that they definitely paid attention to ergonomics while trying to maintain portability.
Despite being all plastic, the silvery colored parts are intended to match the anodized aluminum of modern macs and their keyboards. This mouse matches my aluminum wireless keyboard perfectly. Plus, despite what the product pics show, the little light on top lights up blue - not green - to indicate a successful pairing or connection.
The only difference between this mouse and it's PC cousin is the color of the plastic, and this mouse works just fine on Windows.
This mouse may not be perfect, but I believe it's flaws are more from Bluetooth than from this mouse. I'm glad I bought it, and I'd do so again.22 of 25 people found this useful

Purchased for my MacBook. Much better than the apple mouse. If you want a bluetooth mouse, but this one.
Smaller footprint compared to the standard Apple mouse, but heavier and feels more solid. Contoured to fit your hand very well. Nice 'click' with minimal travel (unlike the mighty mouse) so 'click and drag' is very smooth. Works on a wider variety of surfaces than the Apple mouse.
Installation was idiot-proof.
I'm going to buy another one for my iMac.20 of 21 people found this useful
