    Typical PC port

Written by DS from Van Alstyne

    Apr 9, 2009

I have been playing this game for about 1 year now. It started out with lots of bugs and crashes, but the update patch and tweaking my graphics settings finally got it working reliably. However, the UI is a typical PC port that wants to rewrite everything MacOS already provides. In addition, it is incredibly slow to do anything such as loading a course, looking at highlight replays, switching out equipment, or even getting back to
the main UI screen. I usually click to start a new round and then go away for a while to do something else while it loads. Once you get into a round of golf things move quite well, but it is very frustrating to click on a "Back" button and have to wait 5 minutes for it to respond. I would recommend this to golf fans, but don't pay over $30 for it.

I have a brand new mac book pro and the game worked fine for a week and now it black screens once I am playing a course. Was great when I got it, now a pain and frustrating. Sorry to say......."keep your money"

    Buy on another platform

    Written by DL from Tucson

This product runs very quirky on my Intel 24 inch Imac with 2 GB of RAM. I enjoy playing the game but the menu selection is jerky sometimes. The screen also gets behind in some cases. In the tournament play it has taken my money and does not send me to the tournament. This is the main reason I am in year 2011 and still on the amateur tour shooting in the 80s. I found an update on the EA sports site but it did not seem to improve performance. I still enjoy the game but I have seen it run much better on other platforms.

I have an iMac24 2.4 game runs okay sometimes, but most times there are a lot of graphic problems and games seems to freeze. The frustration level of the software keeps me from enjoying the game.

    Not so hot

Game play is erratic. I have an coreduo 2.4 iMac and on certain holes it does not play smoothly. I also downloaded the patch that apple recommended. I am very disappointed with the performance of this game.

bug riddenl and no support from Electronic arts

    Written by ND from london

On the electronic arts sports page you can click for support on every platform OTHER than the mac. The sound sometimes turns off totally and you have to restart the game. Bits of text are appearing as block graphics that look like some kind of indecipherable code. I can't find a patch anywhere to sort this. Also my player seems to have an inexplicable growth coming out of his shoulder. When it works its good. No wonder everyone is playing pc games on their mac. Well the ones that can get b o o tcamp to work in the first place (I'm not one of them).

    Don't bother!

    Written by BO from Reston

Just got Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 and am attempting to run it on my MacBook Pro 2.33GHz w/ 3GB RAM. The game is slow to load (7min) and hangs all the time mid game. When it does allow me to play it looks OK, not great, with choppy graphics and less than perfect flow but the load time and the hanging in mid game are just unthinkable, making this game unplayable and not worth the money. All in all I'd say don't expect much from this game. Very disappointed.

    No external monitor support

    Written by JC from Simpsonville

    Oct 22, 2007

I'm running a MBP (2.0 ghz, 2gb ram, 128mvram), and a 30" Apple Cinema Display. The game does not support the 2560x1600 resolution of my cinema display, which is absolutely terrible. On the cinema display, it will allow me to play at 1280x800 and on my laptop screen it will let me play at full resolution. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY AT FULL RESOLUTION ON MY EXTERNAL MONITOR. This is ridiculous. Game is good, besides the display problems. Hopefully they will sort this out in a future update.

This game seems awesome. It would just be a whole heck of a lot better if it worked better technically. I have a macBook pro (2.4 ghz, 2Ghz ram, and this new special real graffics card), but it crashes an aweful lot. Hope I can find something that makes me and these other people a bit happier.

Playable, if you're willing to peform a few workarounds

    Written by DB from Albuquerque

    Oct 18, 2007

I am very disappointed in this game’s technical performance.

I am using a 17” MB Pro 2.4 GHz with 4GG of RAM. I run the game at the notebook's native resolution: 1900 x 1200.

My biggest complaint is that the game doesn’t respect the ICC color profile that I've set up. Whenever the game switches between the main menu and the actual gameplay (or vice-versa), the game switches the color profile back to the default profile, 'Color LCD'. It's possible to Command-Tab back to the Desktop and switch the profile back in System Preferences, but this has to be done whenever the game switches between the main menu and the actual gameplay (which can be quite often). If I don't manually switch back to my preferred color profile, the game has a blueish tint overcast.

In addition, the game hangs the machine. Occasionally, it isn’t possible to kill the program using the keyboard (Command-Option-Esc). The only solution is to hold the power button because the machine becomes unresponsive.

I've also been disappointed with the lack of Mac support provided by EA's website. It gives the user the distinct feeling that EA really isn't vested in the Mac userbase.

As for the game play, I am impressed by the amount of customization provided. For example, there are easily 80 different ways to adjust the physical characteristics of your player. I wish there was a tutorial mode set on a driving range, where the user could learn the basics of the swing.

Is this game worth it, given all of the technical glitches? I'm not sure. I will offer this: if you're totally into computer golf, it might be worth the hassle of having to implement the various workarounds. If you're only marginally interested, I'd save your money for something else.
