What is wrong with everyone?
Written by JS from Hamden

All I can assume out there is that some of you know nothing about computers. They are not consoles, and certain games you cannot just buy and play. If that is what you want, buy a PS3 or a 360. For games, such as Madden 08, you have to do some research. It could be better labeled on the box, but it's there, the game will not work with an integrated graphics card. It is also stated on the Apple store, so it will not run on a Mac Book. Is that fair? No, but these sorts of games require a real graphics card so that is really just a fact of computer gaming. Second, you have to tweak the settings to best suit your machine. I have a MBP, 2.16-X1600-2GB RAM, and playing with the settings, the game runs fine, and looks great. Thank you EA for widescreen support. It looks fantastic. As for controllers, I am using a Logitech controller, again no issues with it. Many Logitech controllers have EA compatibility on the PC end, so they work fine on our end for the Mac.
As for the game itself, its Madden, love it or hate it. Again, widescreen support gain huge kudos from me, and reliable gameplay on my game pad. I have no issue with the menus. They are just lo-res and slightly blurry is all.
And listen to this one piece of advice: take 5 minutes to do your home work, know your machine, know the requirements, save yourself a headache.631 of 970 people found this useful

problems....
Written by MC from New York
Oct 15, 2007
I have a new imac, and the game is not displaying properly on it. The text is all jumbled on the screens, and the drop-down menus are illegible. Anyone else having problems? The game is unplayable right now--hence the one star.
Is it just my computer? Anyone else having issues?391 of 701 people found this useful

EA has released a new patch
Written by JD from Seattle

It looks like EA has released a patch for the game. This should fix any existing issues. It's a simple download from their ftp site:

Excellent experience
Written by JF from Watertown

Purchased Madden 2008 when Apple had its Cyber Monday specials on Nov. 26 and received it Nov. 29. Contrary to what I read here, the game has performed very well on my 17-inch 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro. Graphics and text are sharp, better than my Madden 2006 that I have for a PC. Luck was with me because within a day or two or purchasing the game EA Sports came out with a patch. Perhaps the upgrade headed off the problems that others had encountered. But I've very happy.

Worked Great Until I Installed Leopard
Written by MH from Fayetteville
Nov 13, 2007
I was extremely pleased with the Mac edition of Madden '08. I run a 2.16 GHz MacBook Pro with 2 GB of memory, and the game ran flawlessly on my system. I liked the Mac version better than last year's PS2 version--that is, until I upgraded to Leopard. The menus are now garbled to the extent that the game is unplayable.
The game deserves a five-star rating. The system functionality deserves a zero. If you have Tiger, like I did when I initially bought the game, you'll be fine. If you have Leopard, take a pass on this one, at least until EA and Apple create a patch.43 of 60 people found this useful

pretty solid

When you first get the game there is a little bug with the "graphics card and the software" of the game. What EA did was sneakily place the needed patch into the "play online" patch and forgot to tell everyone. When it's in it's not a bad game. Unfortunately for me, I spent my off time playing Madden on 360 and completely lost all control for this game. Oh well. Hope this helps when buying for the first time.

Most disapointing piece of software i've ever bought. I was so very excited when I heard this was coming to the mac but then I get it and it refuses to work. Menu text jumbled up in OSX 10.4. Won't even launch in 10.5! I want a refund.

UNPLAYABLE. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.
Written by EG from Loganville
Oct 30, 2007
Do not believe any of the positive reviews for this game. I assumed that since Apple was making such a big deal about EA Sports games being available for the Mac, that they would at least be functional. Well, you know what happens when we assume... The game doesn't work on any level. It can't remember that I want to use a gamepad, it always goes back to keyboard as the default input device. Once I do start gameplay, the menu endlessly cycles through and I can't pick plays, choose sides, nothing. Not with a mouse, not with a keyboard. Nothing. Apple isn't going to tell you this game isn't ready for prime time, so I will. Don't buy this game. At. All.

boy o' boy. the madden curse is true, everyone gets hurt and now the game is hurt. It barely loads to begin with, once it does, the menus are all garbled. Lots graphic issues on a brand new aluiMac with a 256 HD video card. EA, how do you put out this game without fully testing it.
It's going back tomorrow!49 of 79 people found this useful

I don't know what people mean when they say it doesn't work with Leopard, I am playing it on Leopard and have for about a week. The graphics are way better than the PS2 version (which is why I got for my Macbook Pro). It may be working because I installed the update that I found on this site before playing. Great game!

Works fine with my iMac but when playing the game on my new MacBook ( just bought it a week ago) all the menus work and then when im about to start gameplay the game shuts down. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it something to do with the graphics card?

Major Disappointment
Written by BC from Roanoke
Nov 11, 2007
This is the first Madden (and/or video game) that I've bought since Madden '92 for SNES. I was excited to be able to play one of the only video games I would ever consider owning on my Mac without having to buy an actual game console, but what a major disappointment!
I bought this game & Leopard at the same time. I made sure that my computer met all the requirements to run the software properly only to find out--after upgrading my OS--that the game isn't compatible with Leopard. EA is no help, only to state on their website that they are aware of the issue and that it will be addressed in a software update through Apple.
If you are running Leopard, do not purchase this until it is confirmed that there has been an update released that addresses the issues this game has with Leopard.

Great Game for the Mac
Written by SP from Raleigh
Oct 24, 2007
All in all, this is a great game for the Mac platform. I've only been playing for a few days, but I haven't run into any showstoppers yet on my SR MacBook Pro. The graphics are excellent and frame rates are good. It may not have all the features of the console versions, but it's better than all the other football sims out there for the Mac right now ;-) And it's saved me from buying a 360!
@Black Helmets: I fixed this by turning helmet mappings off under Menu -> Settings -> System Settings -> Video tab -> Helmet Mappings. No more black helmets.

No Problems Here
Written by TW from Salem
Sep 21, 2008
I read a lot of reviews about the problems running this game, but my Macbook Pro (17" 2.33 GHz Intel Duo) hasnt had any problems with menus or game play, although I haven't been able to get registered with EA, which I think is a problem with my internet, not the game. I cant speak to Leopard problems however, as I am running Tiger, 10.4.11 to be exact.
