Its Great but...
Written by SA from Andover

This game is really good except that kicking or punting the ball in this game is impossible. I play with an xbox controller and the controller are very different from any other console.

MacBook compatibility
Written by MR from Bakersfield
Dec 6, 2007
Works fine with my iMac but when playing the game on my new MacBook ( just bought it a week ago) all the menus work and then when im about to start gameplay the game shuts down. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it something to do with the graphics card?

Madden NFL 08 by Electronic Arts
pretty solid
Written by RS from Milwaukee

When you first get the game there is a little bug with the "graphics card and the software" of the game. What EA did was sneakily place the needed patch into the "play online" patch and forgot to tell everyone. When it's in it's not a bad game. Unfortunately for me, I spent my off time playing Madden on 360 and completely lost all control for this game. Oh well. Hope this helps when buying for the first time.

Not Too Bad
Written by BW from Austell
Oct 28, 2007
So far the game isn't too bad. I haven't had any of the text issues that some of the other folks have had. My logitech game controller works fine and the graphics are pretty cool. Still looks better on the Xbox 360 & PS3 consoles (of course).
If the online part was working I'd give it a higher rating. I'm sure EA will have it up and going in no time.21 of 42 people found this useful

GREAT TILL LEOPARD
Written by MS from Freeport
Oct 27, 2007
Well this was running great on tiger and I loved it. Finally madden football for Mac users but since I installed leopard it doesn't work any more. It loads & boots up fine but then the trouble starts. you can not see the menu on the bottom because it's all bunched together but thats not the worst part you can't select a controller & then you can't play. Oh the game comes on but it runs on it's own.

What is wrong with everyone?
Written by JS from Hamden

All I can assume out there is that some of you know nothing about computers. They are not consoles, and certain games you cannot just buy and play. If that is what you want, buy a PS3 or a 360. For games, such as Madden 08, you have to do some research. It could be better labeled on the box, but it's there, the game will not work with an integrated graphics card. It is also stated on the Apple store, so it will not run on a Mac Book. Is that fair? No, but these sorts of games require a real graphics card so that is really just a fact of computer gaming. Second, you have to tweak the settings to best suit your machine. I have a MBP, 2.16-X1600-2GB RAM, and playing with the settings, the game runs fine, and looks great. Thank you EA for widescreen support. It looks fantastic. As for controllers, I am using a Logitech controller, again no issues with it. Many Logitech controllers have EA compatibility on the PC end, so they work fine on our end for the Mac.
As for the game itself, its Madden, love it or hate it. Again, widescreen support gain huge kudos from me, and reliable gameplay on my game pad. I have no issue with the menus. They are just lo-res and slightly blurry is all.
And listen to this one piece of advice: take 5 minutes to do your home work, know your machine, know the requirements, save yourself a headache.626 of 965 people found this useful

Update coming for online play.
Written by LM from Piermont
Oct 23, 2007
I just found under support on the EA Sports web site, that it actually does have "mac" listed at the top of the platforms only in the support section. select mac and then type update in the search box and this is what comes up. Good news yet I hate when games are shipped prematurely.
This is what they say at the site.
The Madden Team is currently work on creating and deploying a patch so that Mac users can play online with Madden NFL 08. Once the patch has been released, we will update this article with the link.
I just bought a logitech game pad dual action and it works great with the game and I have no issues with the text as others have running it on my macbookpro 2.16 core duo. I have even hooked it up to my HD TV via dvi out and played in full wide screen. Thanks EA for bringing it back to the mac!! I guess there are bound to be a few hiccups in the first releases I hope they do not release games before they are ready in the future, it is not right.20 of 32 people found this useful

Madden back on the Mac Yes!! Logitech dual action! Online game??support?
Written by LM from Piermont
Oct 22, 2007
I just bought a logitech dual action controller and it's working great, no issues. The game pays great on my macbookpro with 2.16 core duo and ati x1600 with 256 video memory. The only thing that bumbs me out is the online part of the game requires an update, good luck finding anything for a mac on the EA website. It's amazing that they can't or haven't put up a page for mac releases at there site. Apple has rolled out the red carpet for their launch but EA has no info on their site. You need to upgrade the game, where, when, will I be able to play my PC friends online? I read that another company ports EA games by using a pc emulation type software. Which means EA did nothing much to port the games except to hire someone to do it. They better address this or they will loose apple customers and even set themselves up for a class action lawsuit via false advertising. It is an amazing game and I have always been a fan but that does not mean that shipping a game without all it's features working is right! C'mon EA give us the support page we deserve!!

Game play great, everything else... no
Written by PS from Saint Charles
Oct 19, 2007
I don't have the menu problems. after researching that, it seems to happen to graphics cards that are ATI build... so Nvidea and GeForce macbook pros like me are all right. the Mad Catz controller is however constantly scrolling in the menu's makeing it impossible to use it. (assuming you have figured out how to set the game up to use it in the first place) after talking to Mad catz, it seems to happen only on Madden 08. (hmm, odd dont you think?) When trying to connect to Online play, a menu shows saying that you dont have an updated version of the game (as i noticed charlie Frye is still on the browns) and then tells you to find the "update" option in the main menu... all be it, there is no such menu.
All things can be fixed in a patch by EA, all though. The online component should have been imediatly avaiable, this is just riduclous that i have to learn how to use the keyboard for playing... and just playing the cpus i might add.4 of 9 people found this useful

What's up with online play?
Written by SM from Dublin
Oct 17, 2007
I ordered the game because I had bought the Wii version and it sucked. The graphics and gameplay are much better than the Wii's. So in that respect I have to give it a higher score. The players don't look that realistic though. My major problem is with online play. First you can't get it to register through the disk so I had to register through EA online. I'm still having issues getting to go online to play though. It says I have an outdated version. How can I have an outdated version if I just bought it? The instructions say to go to the update from the launch menu - too bad it doesn't exist. How do I resolve this?

madden 08 or madden 05?
Written by RT from Phoenix
Oct 16, 2007
when i heard of madden 08 coming to mac i was very excited about it because i wasn't going to have buy a 360 to play it but after playing it today i was very disappointed and the main reason why is because it looks like a souped up version of madden 05 on the xbox i mean don't get me wrong it looks very good i mean the grass looks real, the weather effects are great but the player bodies didn't get the upgrade it runs well on my mac pro 3.0 dual core intel xeon , 4GB, ATI radeon x1900 xt graphics card with all the settings on high so if your expecting a 360 experience i would recommend not to purchase this game but if u don't mind that i guess it will have to do till next year one more thing if you have usb speakers like bose it will sound awful
