Finally!!!
Written by RS from Chicago
Dec 28, 2007
I have been waiting for Madden to finally return to the Mac platform and I am happy to say that I am not disappointed. The graphics are superb and the gameplay is as to be expected from the Madden series. I only had one little graphics slowdown during games where it was raining. I had the weird menu problem but the update from the website fixed it. As to the problems other people are reporting I am baffled. This game runs perfectly on my 17" MBP with 2 GB of RAM and 2.16 GhZ processor.

All the text is jumbled and the drop down menu has no words but it is fun to just play a game on it.

A Great Game and a Great Gift.

I just got the game for Christmas. I installed it on my IMac along with the patch found on the Apple website and it works great. The graphics are beautiful and the game-play is smooth. I also got the MadCatz gamepad which works well with the game. Any previous problems have apparently been fixed by the patch. Thanks EA.

I don't know what people mean when they say it doesn't work with Leopard, I am playing it on Leopard and have for about a week. The graphics are way better than the PS2 version (which is why I got for my Macbook Pro). It may be working because I installed the update that I found on this site before playing. Great game!

it was bad but now it's great!

i was one of many people that had issues with the game. i waited for an update so that the program would work and i eventually found it on an obscure site.
now that it works i'm very happy with the product, great graphics, game play. i haven't tested it out on-line but within franchise mode everything is working very well.
apart from the delays and hard to find updates, i'm very happy with the end product.30 of 52 people found this useful

iMac Incompatible

All system requirements are met with my iMac (Leopard) and I continually receive the message that the computer cannot locate the DVD. I downloaded the patch to no avail. Looks like I'll send this one back.

MacBook compatibility
Written by MR from Bakersfield

Works fine with my iMac but when playing the game on my new MacBook ( just bought it a week ago) all the menus work and then when im about to start gameplay the game shuts down. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it something to do with the graphics card?

lack of options
Written by JN from SOUTHFIELD

I have been out of the loop a few years with madden, but I am disappointed with it overall. If college football was on mac I would have bought that. I will wait to next year for ncaa and I will not buy madden again. I miss creating jerseys in franchise mode and playmaker mode. that was the main draw for me besides the draft. they still have not changed the cheesy "super bowl" graphics when you reach numerous superbowls. It is just a lack of all the good things that was great with Madden.

Excellent experience
Written by JF from Watertown

Purchased Madden 2008 when Apple had its Cyber Monday specials on Nov. 26 and received it Nov. 29. Contrary to what I read here, the game has performed very well on my 17-inch 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro. Graphics and text are sharp, better than my Madden 2006 that I have for a PC. Luck was with me because within a day or two or purchasing the game EA Sports came out with a patch. Perhaps the upgrade headed off the problems that others had encountered. But I've very happy.

pretty solid

When you first get the game there is a little bug with the "graphics card and the software" of the game. What EA did was sneakily place the needed patch into the "play online" patch and forgot to tell everyone. When it's in it's not a bad game. Unfortunately for me, I spent my off time playing Madden on 360 and completely lost all control for this game. Oh well. Hope this helps when buying for the first time.

EA has released a new patch

It looks like EA has released a patch for the game. This should fix any existing issues. It's a simple download from their ftp site:

Worked Great Until I Installed Leopard
Written by MH from Fayetteville
Nov 13, 2007
I was extremely pleased with the Mac edition of Madden '08. I run a 2.16 GHz MacBook Pro with 2 GB of memory, and the game ran flawlessly on my system. I liked the Mac version better than last year's PS2 version--that is, until I upgraded to Leopard. The menus are now garbled to the extent that the game is unplayable.
The game deserves a five-star rating. The system functionality deserves a zero. If you have Tiger, like I did when I initially bought the game, you'll be fine. If you have Leopard, take a pass on this one, at least until EA and Apple create a patch.43 of 60 people found this useful

Major Disappointment
Written by BC from Roanoke
Nov 11, 2007
This is the first Madden (and/or video game) that I've bought since Madden '92 for SNES. I was excited to be able to play one of the only video games I would ever consider owning on my Mac without having to buy an actual game console, but what a major disappointment!
I bought this game & Leopard at the same time. I made sure that my computer met all the requirements to run the software properly only to find out--after upgrading my OS--that the game isn't compatible with Leopard. EA is no help, only to state on their website that they are aware of the issue and that it will be addressed in a software update through Apple.
If you are running Leopard, do not purchase this until it is confirmed that there has been an update released that addresses the issues this game has with Leopard.

Just bought this game for brand new 20inch iMac and it does not work correctly, like most of the other reviews. Apple should not sell this title, and should give refunds if they continue to do so.

Stop trying to make water into wine!
Written by DA from Atlanta

Hey my Madden 08 has been working just fine and I play it on my iMac core duo with 1g of RAM and the entry level video card. My text is fine. My helmets are fine. Just have a better understanding that as an early adopter of this new EA software it may not be the big cats meow, but they are working towards that. This game serves its purpose for 40 bucks. If you're a Madden Stan go out and pay the $300 for the Xbox and $60 for the game and leave you Mac out of it!
