Does not work according to spec

    Written by TR from Sausalito

    Nov 6, 2007

I checked the tech specs twice (both here on the Apple site and on the box itself) -- then I used the System Profiler application on my Mac to make sure I had everything right. I had everything right - and even a few things over-spec.

But, it was completely unusable. All of the menu items overlapped each other and the game was useless. Great. What was EA thinking? This is a disaster.

    SO MAD!!!!

    Written by BR

    Nov 5, 2007

Ok so i read everyones reviews here and it seemed like anyone who has leopard or a mac book where having the trouble. SO just in case i went to the store asked one of the people at the genius bar if my computer was positivly compatible. Of course they check it out and are like wow absolutley. (i have a new 20" Imac..the aluminum ones) she said no problems but u cant return it once u open the software. Well guess what its not working overlapping text, text i cant see, controller scrolls forward...BS, I am running it on Tiger with the stock video card (HD2000 something) and thats what sems to be the problem....I WANT A REFUND OR IT TO BE FIXED

    Works fine for me...

    Written by KS from Germantown

I'm sure all the bad reviews are valid, but to be honest, it works fine on my 17 in. MacBook Pro. (2.4 gHz Core 2 Duo, 4 gb RAM, 7200 RPM HD). I'm currently using Leopard, in fact it's the first thing I installed after switching to 10.5. I'm not too crazy about the menus, they aren't widescreen, but the actual game is. I have the video settings quite high and the game looks just as good as my PC version.

    Apple Should be Embarrassed -

Written by JS from Haddon Heights

    Nov 4, 2007

I purchased this game while in the Mac store in Marlton, NJ. The salesperson told me it would play great on my 24inch iMac and that there were no reported issues. Needless to say the only purpose this piece of garbage is useful for is serving as a coaster. I can't read the menus. Not worth trying to play the game b/c you are working around too many graphical issues. And I can't get a refund. The fact that Apple continues to sell this product online and in stores despite the reported issues with the product should be grounds for a class action lawsuit from everyone who has been ripped off here. I expect more from a company that prides itself on its customer service.

    Buyer Beware!!

    Written by ST from Brooklyn

    Nov 3, 2007

This game does not work on new iMacs with the ATI Radeon X1600 graphics cards. The game loads up fine, but there are serious glitches in the menu bars. They show up jumbled and unreadable.

Currently there is are NO software updates for the glitch. I received this game as a gift, so I am going to sit on it until EA release a patch.

Most disapointing piece of software i've ever bought. I was so very excited when I heard this was coming to the mac but then I get it and it refuses to work. Menu text jumbled up in OSX 10.4. Won't even launch in 10.5! I want a refund.

UNPLAYABLE. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

    Written by EG from Loganville

    Oct 30, 2007

Do not believe any of the positive reviews for this game. I assumed that since Apple was making such a big deal about EA Sports games being available for the Mac, that they would at least be functional. Well, you know what happens when we assume... The game doesn't work on any level. It can't remember that I want to use a gamepad, it always goes back to keyboard as the default input device. Once I do start gameplay, the menu endlessly cycles through and I can't pick plays, choose sides, nothing. Not with a mouse, not with a keyboard. Nothing. Apple isn't going to tell you this game isn't ready for prime time, so I will. Don't buy this game. At. All.

    Not Too Bad

    Written by BW from Austell

    Oct 28, 2007

So far the game isn't too bad. I haven't had any of the text issues that some of the other folks have had. My logitech game controller works fine and the graphics are pretty cool. Still looks better on the Xbox 360 & PS3 consoles (of course).

If the online part was working I'd give it a higher rating. I'm sure EA will have it up and going in no time.

    GREAT TILL LEOPARD

    Written by MS from Freeport

    Oct 27, 2007

Well this was running great on tiger and I loved it. Finally madden football for Mac users but since I installed leopard it doesn't work any more. It loads & boots up fine but then the trouble starts. you can not see the menu on the bottom because it's all bunched together but thats not the worst part you can't select a controller & then you can't play. Oh the game comes on but it runs on it's own.

    Written by JK from Milledgeville

unplayable. The menus are absolutely unreadable. I had to click around for 5 minutes just to quit. There are only a few hardware configs for the mac how could this not have been tested? I am stunned that this was released to the public as a beta (no alpha) EA I expect a quick fix or a refund soon.

    Awful

    Written by SM from Osterville

    Oct 26, 2007

I recently purchased Madden 08 for my Mac and it does not work. I am very dissapointed in the fact that a game that does not work was released. I have spent many hours on the phone with EA customer support, and the problem was with Mac. "A patch will be realesed shortly" I was told. Guess what that was almost three weeks ago, and no patch. I am extremmly dissapointed with this, I love my Mac and am very dissapointed in the service I have recieved, I feel as though they do not care, they got my 50 bucks and are trying to run and hide, so I can not recieve a refund. I am very dissapointed in this and would like it to be fixed, but until it is I would not purchase another game.

    What is wrong with everyone?

    Written by JS from Hamden

    Oct 24, 2007

All I can assume out there is that some of you know nothing about computers. They are not consoles, and certain games you cannot just buy and play. If that is what you want, buy a PS3 or a 360. For games, such as Madden 08, you have to do some research. It could be better labeled on the box, but it's there, the game will not work with an integrated graphics card. It is also stated on the Apple store, so it will not run on a Mac Book. Is that fair? No, but these sorts of games require a real graphics card so that is really just a fact of computer gaming. Second, you have to tweak the settings to best suit your machine. I have a MBP, 2.16-X1600-2GB RAM, and playing with the settings, the game runs fine, and looks great. Thank you EA for widescreen support. It looks fantastic. As for controllers, I am using a Logitech controller, again no issues with it. Many Logitech controllers have EA compatibility on the PC end, so they work fine on our end for the Mac.
As for the game itself, its Madden, love it or hate it. Again, widescreen support gain huge kudos from me, and reliable gameplay on my game pad. I have no issue with the menus. They are just lo-res and slightly blurry is all.
And listen to this one piece of advice: take 5 minutes to do your home work, know your machine, know the requirements, save yourself a headache.

    Great Game for the Mac

    Written by SP from Raleigh

    Oct 24, 2007

All in all, this is a great game for the Mac platform. I've only been playing for a few days, but I haven't run into any showstoppers yet on my SR MacBook Pro. The graphics are excellent and frame rates are good. It may not have all the features of the console versions, but it's better than all the other football sims out there for the Mac right now ;-) And it's saved me from buying a 360!

@Black Helmets: I fixed this by turning helmet mappings off under Menu -> Settings -> System Settings -> Video tab -> Helmet Mappings. No more black helmets.

    Help!

Written by GG from Jersey City

    Oct 24, 2007

I pre-ordered the game and got it as soon as it shipped, and of course it won't work on my mac mini. Could not find anything on the web anywhere about it, and I am glad in the days since, there have been posts here. What is this upcoming 'fix' folks are referring to?

    Update coming for online play.

    Written by LM from Piermont

    Oct 23, 2007

I just found under support on the EA Sports web site, that it actually does have "mac" listed at the top of the platforms only in the support section. select mac and then type update in the search box and this is what comes up. Good news yet I hate when games are shipped prematurely.
This is what they say at the site.

The Madden Team is currently work on creating and deploying a patch so that Mac users can play online with Madden NFL 08. Once the patch has been released, we will update this article with the link.

I just bought a logitech game pad dual action and it works great with the game and I have no issues with the text as others have running it on my macbookpro 2.16 core duo. I have even hooked it up to my HD TV via dvi out and played in full wide screen. Thanks EA for bringing it back to the mac!! I guess there are bound to be a few hiccups in the first releases I hope they do not release games before they are ready in the future, it is not right.
