    Great, but.....

The game it self is very fun the play. This is the catch, say if you have a macbook and you just bought Star wars: Empire at war, you will have to use the lowest graphics, or it will glitch or gameplay will be slow. Still the graphics are not that bad in lowest. Well if you have a macbook pro you will be fine in highest graphics. Great game and the price is very good.

Even though this game has average graphics but that is made up for by the freedom that the game gives you in your strategy.

This strategy based game is a must for star wars fans and people who enjoy other games such civilizations IV.

    Boring gameplay

    Written by MH from palatine

    Jun 10, 2009

I bought this game because the previous Star Wars war strategy series "Galactic Battlegrounds" was a blast to play and was fun for hours on end. However with this new one, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. Battlegrounds was much less restrictive in terms of how you played, you could build wherever and whatever you wanted. Resource gathering was actually intuitive and fun. This game just feels as if you are on a sort of pre-manufactured playing board. All the buildings are pre-built and resource gathering only consists of going next to an asteroid and clicking a button. If you want a war strategy game that feels like you are actually doing things yourself and can do things the way you want, stick to Rise of Nations and Galactic Battlegrounds.

    Greatest Mac game ever.

This is by far one of the greatest games I have ever played for mac. It's so fun to rule your own army and send them to many different planets. I wish the expansion pack would come out for it on mac though. But a very great game.

    The Ultimate Test of Strategy

    Written by CC from Libertyville

A completely new feel for RTS (Real Time Strategy) games, with the bulk of the game based, not on the battlefield, but on the galactic map, where you can create your units, upgrade tech, and fortify your bases on the planets you control. While the heroes are strong and the Infantry takes way to many shots to kill, the way each unit is controlled and the way you use them will undoubtedly decide the outcome of the battle, while the skirmish games are rather underdone, the open-ended galactic conquest game mode, is without a doubt the most realistic of any strategy games before.

Great strategy game for Star Wars fans!

If you like Command & Conquer types of games and you are a Star Wars fan, you will probably love this game. It really takes you back to the original trilogy atmosphere. Pretty good graphics and amazing sound. The heroes seem overpowered, but I didn't play on the harder levels. For instance, I could easily take over an entire planet with Darth Vader and Han Solo was almost invincible in space combat. Also, a couple times the computer would seem to send insane stacks of ships to my planets. More than he could possibly have considering the amount of planets it controlled. Still a very good game.

    MEDIOCRE and repetitive

Written by SC from LOS ANGELES

    Jun 13, 2008

Even after seeing so many middle of the road reviews I bought this game. why? Because it's Star Wars and the trailers looked good. Well, the game is really mediocre at best. The land battles look like Starcraft but with only 5% of that games playability, and the space battles LOOK like "X-wing vs Tie-Fighter" but with about 10% of that game's playability. Both the land and space battles take place in small squares. We finally get to do some gaming with planetary bombardment , troop landing, and base attacks and it takes place it what looks to be a big back yard. There is little fine tuning and space combat is almost 2 dimensional in application. Everything that is playable is only representational of the objects or events. The size relation of things that we are too familiar with is just so way off that the game is hard to enjoy. Troop and ship limitation is frustrating as well. Star Wars: EMPIRE AT WAR is a poor rehashing of the older STAR WARS:REBELLION... yes, with great updated graphics but with far less strategy. It does feel like two incomplete games with a lot of potential.

    Fat Chance Playing Online

    Written by BT from Ulysses

I've had this game about a year. The space battles are fun. I like the hero units in space and on land. I can't figure out how play online, it said my CD Key was incorrect. I reinstalled, and now it says my password doesn't match my e-mail or my user name is incorrect or in use. Oh and sometimes it still says my CD Key is incorrect.
I play many games online and have never had so many problems trying to get a game to work online. Lucas arts endorsed this?
Neat game but since I can't seem to figure out how to play online it's boring. If your looking for some online gaming, this is not for you!

    Dreadful

    Written by NM from Frederick

    Mar 7, 2008

This game is less playable than the original command and conquer released in the early nineties. The graphics are boring and the game play is laughable: to control your ships, you literally drag a little fleet icon to one of three circles over a planet. What is that!?

Land and Space combat consists of "Click Here and your guys stand and shoot a laser beam every five seconds".

There also seems to be a complete absence of hotkeys.

Whoever developed this game should spend a weekend playing Warhammer 40k.

Save your money. Go buy a board game.

This game was a great addition from lucas arts. If you like games like age of empires, and other RTS games, i would recommend this one. Its a strategic game that combines a board-game space kind of gameplay, with the RTS ground combat style gameplay. It really makes you feel like you are taking over the universe. Good times. DO WORK.

    well........ ok

    Written by ML from Wakefield

    Jan 11, 2008

well i was looking at other reviews of this game, about not building bases and only sending little amount of troops and that's just not true. you do build bases and you can send as many troops as you want into the battlefield. it's just that these are executed in different ways than other strategy games. each planet is different and every battle is different. the game is so-so and i was saying that i would probably like it more if i could play it online. so i got my CD key re-entered and low and behold, no one plays this online. so play the demo first. if you like that demo and that you can play this game definitely get it. if you play the demo thinking that the game's multi-player will carry it, well you probably shouldn't get it.

    Not very Fun

    Written by CS from Montreal

    Nov 27, 2007

I bought this game expecting to be able to build bases and armies. I was disapointed...

You have only a few troops to be able to land on each planet, you cannot create a base and build your economy when you are on a planet.

I grew tired of the gameplay after playing it only for the weekend. The idea is just not that interesting, there are a lot of better strategy games out... save your money!

I love this product! The game has great graphics and the battles are very intense. You catch on to control the game easily, and it works great! I only wish they had the Forces of Corruption Expansion pack. I tried that one on PC and it had lots of new units and scenarios. Overall, a great game!

Not supported on th 8600M GT (Macbook pro)

    Written by AJ from Anchorage

    Sep 20, 2007

I have just invested a large amount of money on a top notch computer only to find that empire of war does not work on the 8600M that have been newly installed on the macbook pros. The game will start and work for maybey five minutes and then completely freeze my computer up at which time I have to restart. It's realy sad to see one of the few (very few actually) good games ported to mac fail so miserably. Aspyr, Apple, and anyone else interested in keeping games alive or even the remote possibility of them on macs are going to have to work harder than they are if they intend to keep customers.

Great game and yet where is the expansion?

    Written by AF

    Sep 16, 2007

Ok do not get me wrong this game was awesome the graphics are great they put a LOT of effort into this game but from what I got from Aspyr it seems that Lucasarts did NOT give them the rights to either port over the expansion or the map editor. Personally this is a big let-down considering the potential of this game. I sent an e-mail to Aspyr and Lucasarts trying to convince them to port both over to the mac and it would great if people reading this could do the same because all I got was silence. Maybe if they could see how many people would buy the expansion they would port it over.
    Thanks

Great game idea, but poor execution. Some of the features don't even work without the update/patch to 1.05 Rev A, and good luck trying to get the patch to work.

I had really hoped to run this software and find myself saying "Impressive".

Instead, I'm forcing myself to play it at it's default settings until I think I've gotten my $50 worth.

Great Game, but there are some down sides...

    Written by JW from Aurora

    Jul 11, 2007

I was very happy when this game finally arrived at my house. I easily installed it, although I had trouble finding the serial number (Note to Buyers: It's on the back of the manual!). The game runs superbly on my Mac (Intel-iMac 2GHz, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600). I was able to run the game with the graphics settings almost maxed out, though my computer did lag a bit during some intense skirmishes.

One thing that disturbs me is the way space is addressed. Ships run on a 2D plane, they cannot go up nor down, thus your tactics are limited.

Otherwise, this is a fine game that any Star Wars fan will love.
