    Great game

Written by LH from Ann Arbor

This game was a port from the PC version and includes the expansion pack. It's a faithful port. I had to buy a copy as it was my favorite game and when I switched, I wanted to run it on my Mac. I was never disappointed. By today's standards, the graphics aren't that great, but the game is so much fun it doesn't matter. Anyone who likes strategy games with many components will love this. It's not uncommon for games to go several hours in certain modes. My record is 6 hours so far. There are several game types such as regicide, campaigns, etc. I like setting up my own matches as opposed to playing the campaigns. They're interesting from a historical perspective, but not all that fun. There are many different cultures represented with different abilities. Some can gain fire ships, others have "turtle" like attack boats. You have naval and land battles and can build castles.

I suggest for those having issues that they try installing the patch that is linked on Apple's site if they haven't already.
I have a Macbook with Intel Core 2 Duo and 4Gigs of ram on 10.5.5 OS X and it runs great.

    Great single player.

First thing I think I should warn anyone of is that you CANNOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM PLAY MULTIPLAYER GAMES WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS GAME ON A PC. You'd think that it'd be compatible over a simple LAN or an IP connection, well it isn't. They don't tell you this either. So I am. I was trying to set up a game with someone over TCP/IP that was running it on a PC, and after 15 minutes of failed attempts and trying everything with the Firewall and internet connection settings, I did some Googling. Turns out, Microsoft didn't want to give Macsoft some of their code or something and so multiplayer only works with other Mac computers. LAN is also not even provided in this version of the game, the only options for multiplayer is TCP/IP, or GameRanger, the new Zone.com I guess. This is an online service similar to battle.net available for Mac and PC users, but again, no cross-breeding. You can only play with other people on your OS.

Other than that issue, this is a great game. I used to own this on PC and I see no other differences, the single player has been converted flawlessly. It runs smoothly on my 1st gen iMac. The installation is a bit weird, but it gets the job done and the game runs well. All the music, sounds, and graphics are the same. And the AI, from what I can remember.

Also, if you're not on an admin account with this game, you need to have Read & Write (including all enclosed items) privileges for the entire folder in which this game is located on your HD. Otherwise, the game will force quit whenever you try and start playing. This too took me some trial and error to figure out.

Most new games being released now are released for Macs and PC's, so these problems shouldn't continue.

But hey, this is a '90's PC game redesigned for Mac computers. Can't expect 100%, not even from Apple.

This program gets one star only because it is the least I can give and provide a review. The program is not compatible with the latest MAC operating system. Check out the blogs on line first. Unfortunately I purchased it and then discovered it did not work. When I went back to the Apple store they insisted it worked. They spent an hour trying to load it, then finally read through the blogs I told them to look at when I walked in. They then told me I was stuck with the useless software because it was opened. I would be careful of any non-Apple software purchased.

    Game keeps crashing

    Written by DH from Kailua

    Nov 29, 2008

I loved this game on my PC sooo much that after I switched over to a Macbook Pro, I bought the Macsoft version. BIG MISTAKE!! The game keeps crashing on me 10 seconds after I begin a mission! EVERY TIME! Nothing listed on the support page and Apple is clueless. My only real disappointment to owning an Apple thus far.

I bought this game at the Base Exchange. I installed it just fine but due to my system being to new The game is not supported. I suggest buying Age of Empires III because it is more advanced and works universally on any Mac. (Intel/PowerPC)

    Horrid but Fun

    Written by JT

    Jun 13, 2008

This game is amazingly fun! When I played it for the first time I was shocked at how amazing it is!
But when i played it more often, it constantly crashed when saving and exiting. Also, when I played one of the campaigns, it went to the wrong game, and it deleted my progress on that campaign (sheesh!)! And when I play for a really long time the colours go crazy!
But even though it had some very serious issues, it is still a really fun game. Buy it because it's cheap, and only if you can stand some problems.

This game is genius. It requires a lot of strategy, but is not to complicated. I run this on both a MacBook Core Duo with 512 MBs of RAM and an iMac DV 400 MHZ with 512 MBs of RAM and play against my friends online from across town whenever he borrows my MacBook, it is a great game and I recommend you buy it.

I remember this game to have been much better on pc. The mac version lag's more and is full of bugs. The disc also behave's rather, irratically during gameplay. The graphics are bland, after having played age of empire's 3. But the history in the game is worth a play.

This game is perfect. I bought it and played till 2 in the morning. Build your own campaigns. Build massive armies. Explore countries and fight side by side of history's heroes such as joan of arc, Genghis Kahn, even robin hood. Definately worth buying. P.S. theres a killer cheat that you can drive a car and shoot people with a cannon. WHEEEEEE!
