A little bit pricey, but you get what you paid for. I'll give it 4 start, because of the price.

Great! ... If you don't have an Apple Remote.

I just bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she loves it so far. It's helped her posture, keeps her 13" MacBook nice and cool, and is comfortable for laying down. She hasn't had it for very long so the issue other people have reported regarding the foam padding hasn't come up... yet.

The one problem with this product is that the padding blocks the IR receiver on her mac, so the Apple Remote I also got her for Christmas doesn't work when it's on the stand. Small problem, but it confuses my wife greatly.

All in all, I'd definitely recommend this others.

This is certainly one of those products that feels like it's about 30% too expensive but is worth having anyway. I use the iLap with my 15" MacBook Pro. My MBP gets hot enough to be uncomfortable on my lap, so the iLap is a nice thing to have around. I also use the iLap on my desk - it raises the screen of the laptop to be even with the bottom of the monitor I'm using on my desk. This makes using a dual-monitor set up (MPB screen + monitor) easier.

    Awesome, but a bit Overpriced

A couple other people said that the laptop doesn't stay on the stand, but that can't be true if you use the four clear rubber/plastic pads they give you to stick onto the stand. Also, people have said that the wrist pad falls off, there's a 12-inch strip of Velcro holding it on, it has never come close to coming off.

Overall, its an awesome product that doubles as a desktop stand, as well as being useful on your lap. Its light, looks good, keeps your lap and laptop cool, and for those of you who don't want to scratch the bottom of your laptop, it will solve this problem too.

    Great simple product

My 15" macbook practically lived on my ilap. Whether on the desk, in bed or on my lap, it was there. It gives the notebook a slight forward tilt that makes typing a little easier. However, I hated the fact that the optical drive on the earlier macbook pros was in the front and was blocked by the front cushion. I had to lift my mac over the cushion every time I wanted to insert or eject a disk. Annoying.
I bought the ilap because I didn't have a suitable surface at home to place my laptop on save a pillow which I know will suffocate the vents. I also didn't want any cooling stand that needed electricity or would use up one of the usb ports on my computer. I am not a heavy gamer so I don't need two fans and an air conditioner pointed at my machine.
My front cushion doesn't fall off at all the way some people mentioned. In fact, the velcro is very strong.
I now use my 13" macbook on here and love that the optical drive is on the side. Also, the front cushion is great for protecting your wrists from that brutal edge.
I really think the ilap is has an excellent and simple design. It's lightweight, versatile, and high quality.
However, when you use it on your lap the weight of the laptop is not evenly distributed over your entire thigh but solely rests on the back cushion. Over time this makes me feel as if my thighs are falling asleep, forcing me to shift due to discomfort. For that it gets four stars.

I wasn't looking for something like this when I accidentally came across it on the Apple Store online. I was instantly drawn to it's promise to keep the heat of the laptop off of your actual lap, and it definitely holds true to it's purpose! I use my laptop while sitting on my couch 90% of the time, and the heat often becomes uncomfortable. This iLap keeps all of the heat off of your legs, and the pad are very comfortable and cool. The only complaint I have is that the front pad needs to be handled a little bit carefully, or it could come off unintentionally. This is not a problem, however, because the benefits far outweigh this one minor possibility!!! I also like the fact that the pads both swivel slightly so that the iLap adjusts with you as you move to make it even more comfortable. I highly recommend this to anyone who uses their laptop on their...LAP!

I have been using one for about 2 months. It does what they say it does. I gave it 4 stars. It is a really nice product. But i think it could be a lil better. But i also think it beats all the other products i have tried by miles. I would buy another one.

I really like this product, it totally helps my laptop stay cool and comfy on my lap or at my office. I wish they could come up with a way for the lap pad to stay on and in place better. All in all I would recommend. Maybe a little work on the slipping off of the lap pad and also if they could make it lay flatter for traveling. When I travel I cant get it in my bag and would like to take it everywhere with me. Like it a lot.

    Only One (Minor) Flaw

This does everything it is advertised to do, and deserves its excellent rating. The only thing that makes me crazy about it is that it isn't precisely portable; doesn't fit in my computer backpack at all gracefully, even with the wrist pad removed. I do a fair bit of traveling overseas, so (at least for me) laptop stand portability is essential.

Great angle for typing; hands and arms are comfortable for long periods of time. the only thing wrong with it is that it is hard to stow away in a laptop bag, which makes it hard to use when not at home. Overall good though

I just received my iLap today and really love it! My macbook pro fits perfectly. The velvet cushion is wonderful! I work on my laptop a lot and need the support for my arms. I no longer strain my wrists! I really recommend this product. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth it!

    Resolved velcro complaints

As of March 2008, it looks like they've resolved the complaints about the velcro wrist pad. The pad now attaches with a long sewn-on clip thing, and it seems to work pretty well. Also comes with silicone feet, so the complaints about nothing to help keep it on can also be disregarded.

The Best Thing I Bought For My Laptop

The iLap is really the best thing I have bought for my laptop. I no longer have to worry about moving my computer around so it doesn't heat up. It seems to filter out the heat of the computer except if you have it on for hours and hours, but it's not touching me. The removable wrist/lap cushion is the only minus I would say because it's a little akward taking it on and off.

I don't know how I lived this long with out this nifty thing and I am going to give these out as presents because I think they are so great.

    Can't live without!

    • Written by from Murrieta

I have had this product for about six months now, and I could not live without it. I work with my MacBook pro most of the time I am at work, and the days I forget it at home, I notice. Not only does it limit the heat generated, the extra elevation of the keyboard makes it easier to type.

The ability to use it in the lap has also been a great experience. At home I have used this all over the house, when watching TV or just sitting in bed. I don't have to balance it on my legs, or worry about it burning up by placing it down on a soft surface.

The only reason I did not give it five stars was the price. It was a bit pricey for nothing more than a sheet of metal with some foam. But still I find it to be a good buy.

    iLap is great

I really like to use the iLap whether it is on my lap or the table. The rubber dots really do a very good job securing the laptop to the iLap. The only problem I have is the front cushion. It detaches very easily and the velcro seems to be in the wrong spot to keep it secure. I have removed the cushion and it works great for keeping my legs cool. The cushion is comfortable and nice for resting my wrists on. I do wish it stayed on so I could enjoy that benefit. That and the price are the only reasons I wouldn't give it 5 stars.

The iLap does what it's advertised to do, keep the heat off your lap and it relieves stress on your wrists in both the laptop and desktop modes. I did find the cusioned hand rest gets in the way, but I may give it another try. It was worth the price.

Get more glue for long periods of use

After running some processor-intensive programs I found that after an hour or so the glue on the silicon nubs that rest between the iLap surface and your MBP start to slip. After a few months the glue is completely gone. WIthout the nubs my MBP slowly slides off the stand. Nothing a little superglue won't fix, though.

Very comfortable initially on lap or on coffee table. Highly recommended.
