I've been using this for 3 weeks now & it's worth every penny. Rubber "soles" help secure MB Pro in place. Cushions work great except that the velcro makes it harder to put back on. The aluminum helps discipate the heat nicely. I used to a couch pillow previously, but the heat was insulated & the fan turned on frequently. Since using iLap, the fan has not turned on once. The aluminum also keeps the weight much lighter than what I expected. Recommended for those working in front of the TV & in the office just the same!

I've had this for about a week now, and I don't know how I lived without it! The cushions are really comfortable, and my posture has improved. I have a mild case of carpal tunnel and it has helped ease my pain. It was much lighter than I expected. It includes silicon feet for your laptop so they don't slide, in case the feet on your laptop wear out. My only (minor) complaint is that the cushion is attached with Velcro, so it can be a pain to put back on. I definitely recommend it.

    Great product

I have been using the iLap for about a year now, and what people say about notebook sliding off is true (using the small feet included). However, when you clean off those little rubber feet supplied with this that sit between your notebook and the bottom aluminum of the stand, the notebook doesn't slide anymore. Like anything, it just needs a little cleaning every now and then to keep the notebook in place. This is a great product for sitting in bed with while using your notebook, or when playing games, or any other activity where the bottom casing of Apple notebooks tend to get rather hot. A great buy, would recommend to others.

I looked at a lot of "cooling stands" for laptops. Most had active fans powered by the USB bus. I didn't want that as it would reduce battery life.

The difference in the temperature of of my MacBook is amazing. Absolutely cool to the touch. In principle, it reminds me of the old iMacs with "convective cooling."

    I couldn't be more pleased.

    Very Skeptical

    • Written by from Bartlett

WOW - I first bought Griffin's elevator for my office (trying to save some $$$). That's the problem...it has to stay at my office (not to mention it's wide open bottom still doesn't cool the MBP very well.

Well, I bought the ilap last night and I'm already seeing the effects of the ergo comfort. I was skeptical about the heat issue...especially when I got home, opened up the box and saw ONE rain drop looking hole in the platform just under the area of the trackpad.

I WAS WRONG! This thing has no cooling fan, it's just the raw metal and it's keeping my temps way down. As I'm writing this, smcFanControl says my temp is 45C. And my fans are running just below 2000RPM with apps open and my display at full brightness.

GO RIGHT NOW - BUY ONE OF THESE! If you're using a MAC, then you know the beauty of spending a little more for the highest quality computer product on the planet. Take that mentality and get the higher end iLap. It's worth the $50!!

I have my MB Pro sitting on my desk, with an external keyboard and mouse. MB Pro is very secure and works great when I want to watch a movie in bed.

    Much More than Expected

    • Written by from Vancouver

I bought the iLap to raise my MBP off my lap for heat relief. It does much more.

It adapts to almost any seated position. It makes working in bed practical and comfortable. The velveteen wrist rest is super. It keeps the MBP cooler and my lap much cooler. Even the footpads work to keep everything solid. It's sturdy and light.

This thing turns any comfy seat into a comfy work station. I'm very happy.

    Really Worth It!

This is a very comfortable, affordable and convienient way to do what you gotta on your mac without a table or desk setup. If you're business savy, this is more useful for the on the go student. Its arm rest is very soft and the whole thing actually helps you maintain your posture so you don't hurt your back. In fact, it's in my lap right now and I couldn't be more relaxed. :)

This is the BEST laptop stand I have EVER OWNED. Usually all the stands that are available to buy, especially those you find in computer stores are all made out of cheap plastic and also look cheap. This product is made of aluminum with a back 4" stand coated in Velvet which is very comfortable which is made of very COMFORTABLE ROLLED PADDED Velve is very comfortable while in one's lap as it is a tprotector. IT IS EASILY removeable since it attaches to the laptop STAND with Velcro, And all that you have to do is pull on one end of the side of Velcro, (WHICH RUNS ALL THE WAY ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE STAND) as it EASILY removes to where you can then use the stand on a hard surface, after you are finished and want to use it on your lap again, you can VERY EASILY put it SECURELY back on. I just cleaned the Velvet pad with a rollable dust and partical remover to clean the Velvet and it removed ALL the dust and lint effortlessly. I then cleaned the rest of the stand and afterwards, it was as if it were in brand new condition. This stand may be somewhat Expensive to some people, but if you are reviewing it on Apple's site, then no one should complain as I certainlly wouldn't complain over $50 bucks after spending $2,700 PLUS TAX on my Macbook Pro. I want the BEST laptop stand to protect my laptop and remember. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. This item is GREAT!!!

    Best I've ever had!

    • Written by from KIRKLAND

I've had the Rain Design Stand for over 2 yrs. now. I've tried numerous others over the years as this is my 3rd MacBook. This is beyond any shadow of a doubt the best I've ever had. It keeps my Pro cool regardless how many hours it's on and in use.

I'd recommend this stand to everyone. Previous ones I've tried, the rubber pads
to hold your computer and keep it from sliding, always started coming off within a a few months. They may have cooled the computer from what it would be like without a stand but my computer still got hot on the bottom. Not with this one!

Being disabled, I use my computer in bed. Sometimes it's sitting on a pillow, sometimes on the flat surface of the bed itself, sometimes on my lap.
No matter where it is, I always use this stand.

The height/angle is adjustable and that section is lightly padded on the bottom. I assume that was intended to protect furniture, as well as be comfortable resting on you. It works. When I'm reclined and it's on my lap, it's still comfortable sitting on me with the adjustable portion forward.

The wrist pad/bolster folds up or down. It's velvet covered foam.
The foam has held up well and the bolster is comfortable to use.

Yes, as another reviewer commented, it does come off occasionally, but it's easy enough to put back on. You simply slide the underside of the "U" at the front bottom of the stand into the groove on the attachment part of the bolster. There is velcro type material on both the stand and the bolster to help hold it there. In order to wash the bolster, it has to be removable.

My only complaint is that after 2+ yrs., and all the use it's had, I've finally worn away the "velvet" nap of the fabric where my wrists or forearms rest, but that's
no big deal. It doesn't look as nice as when it was new with these shiny spots, but it still does the job.

Bottom line: A lot of thought went into the design of this stand.
    Highly recommend.

I was pretty bummed when I first bought my MacBook because the computer was so hot sitting on my lap. I am a hot-natured person, so I would have to go find a desk or table top on which to sit my laptop so I wouldn't burn up! So I bought this iLap, and the difference is unbelievable. It sits comfortably on my legs, and thanks to the design, the computer stays relatively cool. The pads also make it much more comfortable to use my MacBook! I love this thing!

I had a cheap solution called Lapinator, but that started warping and had been pretty lame from the beginning. This product is much better. More comfy on my lap and a better angle and everything.

I had the ugly dual-fan cooling pad, and it was nosily and took up a USB port. The iLap really helped with the over heating issues, and puts the laptop into a more comfortable position when typing.

i bought this primarily as a heatsink because as we all know, the macbook pro can get really hot. after using it for a mere few hours, i can honestly say that i can place my hand on the bottom of the laptop without cringing. it does what it says it does, it really does keep the laptop cool. And you can put it on your lap now too!

    Successful Heat Sink

    • Written by from STAMFORD

My 15" Powerbook G4 was overheating every few minutes to the point of going into a forced sleep. After weeks of dismay and bringing it to the Apple Store, I bought an iLap and haven't had a problem for the years since. It's comfortable to use on the desktop and on my lap.

I've tried other models of heat sink stands, but the only ones that I've seen results with (via Temperature Monitor) are the Rain Design iLap and mStand (which is great for on the desk but not on laps).

Highly recommended! Saved hours of frustration and repair costs!

    Lap and Desk Saver!

    • Written by from BALTIMORE

It's 90 degrees in my house right now, but my laptop is sitting comfortably in my lap thanks to the iLap.

Yes, it does seemed overpriced. But I've never regretted purchasing it. I mostly used this on a desk that had an acrylic top. The heat from my Macbook Pro was causing the table to warp. The iLap fixed the problem perfectly, and also elevated it closer to the level of my external flat panel display.

This is the best purchase I've made since buying an apple notebook. I use the iLap all the time. At work, sitting at home, and lying down in bed. It's great! The velvet cushion is easy on my thighs and wrists.

    Comfortable and cool

    • Written by from Kingman

Very comfortable whether on the sofa or a motel room bed. Adapts easily to crossed legs, etc. But the most amazing thing to me is how much cooler my 15" aluminum PB runs. All PB users know how hot they get underneath. After working on the iLap for three hours in Photoshop and Dreamweaver -- heavy CPU operations -- the bottom of the PB is warm, but not hot. Amazing heat sink capability. This alone makes the iLap worth it, because it's extending the life of an expensive computer. If I had to cite an objection, it would be that the rear padded stand is riveted to the main legs. If it were detachable, the iLap would fit in my Brenthaven Trek backpack along with all my other gear. (Come to think of it, it wouldn't be that difficult to drill out those rivets and replace them with lightweight bolts and wingnuts.) But this by no means is a reason not to buy this. As far as price goes, $50 is a small price to spend to extend the life of a $2200 PowerBook. Footnote: That front pad is an answer to prayer when it comes to cushioning the heel of my hands from the front edge of the PB. Thanks, Rain Design. iLap rocks.

I am really glad I have this iLap. I work with my MacBook in my lap all the time. Although it is very warm, it can be in your lap. Using the iLap makes it very comfortable. It keeps the heat off your legs. The hand rest cushion is a extremely comfortable. It is also very ergonomic.
The only regret is that I didn't buy it sooner.

Exelent Product & Just what I was looking for to keep the heat down & raise things up a bit while sitting at the desk/table. Also, if you are tall, you can keep the front cushion on for an even more relaxed session at the desk ;)
For those complaining about the velcro, I have found NO problem with attaching or removing the cushion. Just slip it on from the non velcro side first & it will automaticly attach itself when you let go :)
It is comfortable on the lap, keeps your legs/laptop cool & has a nice rise on the desk.
