I am not a huge fan of this product for a couple of reasons. First of all, there is no way to keep your computer from sliding off while it is in your lap. They give you things to stick to the bottom of your mac but they don't help. If you don't hold it properly the Mac will slide right off. Furthermore, the bottom cushion doesn't stay attached really well. It is supposed to fold over the top but mine always comes off the top and then slides off the bottom. The back support leg is very squeaky and continuously gets stuck in a bad position. I was expecting a lot more from this product it just didn't deliver.

I just purchased one of these for my Macbook Pro 15" and I would agree that it does fit the laptop in size as advertised. If you play games that task your graphics card this will not effectively keep your laptop cool. For usage related to most folks daily work, editing documents and reading emails where you do not heavily task your notebooks ability it does a descent job of helping it keep a bit cooler.

The front cushion falls off very easily as many other reviewers mentioned. If you are frequently adjusting the iLap prepare for this inconvenience.

I also disagree with the names intended use. I am a person who is almost 6 feet tall with rather average leg length and I find it quite uncomfortable in my lap alone. With only front and back cushions touching my lap, I find the ILap squished against my belly and the back cushion pivoting on my knees making it an uncomfortable for lap usage. If you set the ILap on a desk or end table for use it works better. So, using an iLap in your lap is not recommended unless you have something else to place it on making the use of the iLap as a lap stand alone not reasonable.

Also, I came from a windows machine and this is my first macbook. I love the macbook entirely, but I can't live without my multi-button windows mouse. This iLap has no room for an external mouse and expect to use your touchpad or find another place for your external mouse. There is no room for anything but the macbook on the stand.

    Overview:

    Pros:
    - very light / thin
    - pads are soft / comfortable
    - perfectly holds a macbook pro with both cushions in place
    - helps with cooling for light use
    - cosmetically it is pretty descent looking and matches my aluminum macbook pro nicely

    Cons:
    - Not comfortable in lap alone (as comfort pads only in front and back touch lap to far apart to use alone on lap)
    - with no fans on this iLap stand, trying to play graphics heavy games still creates a great deal of heat, so don't plan on it being your only cooling related device in these situations.
    - front pad falls off to easy for people who adjust their laps often. Its not super difficult to reattach, but if there were snaps or something more than just it being slipped on holding the front pad to the stand that would go a long way to holding it in place.
    - no extensions or slides to make for external mouse support. use your touchpad or find something else for your external mouse.

Although the aluminum material for the "shelf" part of the stand is good as a heat sink and lightweight enough that it's easily portable, the material of the cushion isn't as good. This material attracts a lot of lint. In fact there was lint on my cushion when I first opened the box before I even used the stand. That and the fact that I received the package from the "returns" center makes me question whether I was really sent a new product even though I paid for a new product.

For $40 I expected more. The front pad curls so that it no longer covers the bottom of the rim. With the pad removed, the computer slides right off. Tip the stand sideways to move it and the front pad slides off. The underneath support is a thin strip of aluminum and it bends when positioned across my legs. I'm very disappointed with the quality.

If you take off the cushion in the front (which as some reviews mentioned, kept falling off anyways) and put your macbook on it, it will slide right off! What kind of laptop stand is that?! I took the rubber bushings that came in the box with the iLap, which are intended to be attached to the bottom of your laptop and put them on the front end of the laptop stand surface to hold my computer in place. Once I did that, it works fine.

I bought this lap stand for my Macbook Air 13". It was a little pricey but I was immediately happy with it when first using it. The sticky pads that come with it have stayed on the stand for months now without migrating at all and it really holds the laptop in place well. I can shift my laptop around without worrying at all.
At first I liked that it has a removable pad at the front, because it makes it easy to use either on a desk/table or on your lap, but I started hating it after about the first week when I noticed the material is a very annoying texture that basically acted as a fur-magnet (I have three pets). Seeing as it's now covered in hair and all attempts to wash it failed miserably, I just don't use it at all which then leaves me with an annoying Velcro strip that is constantly exposed and it just doesn't look nice.
I also thought I would like that it's metal and not plastic, but i can't stand it because both my laptop and super-drive (which I use often) have the same material exterior and when all three of them rub against each other it's worse than nails on a chalkboard. It could be worse and I like the idea, but you can probably find a better stand.

Was this useful? Better than some but not worth the money.

The removable bolster doesn't stay on... comes off ALL THE TIME!

Great idea & nice when the bolster stays on, but more that not, the bolster slips off and its a pain. Very annoying because then its an uncomfortable piece of metal.
To its credit, the Rain iLap is smart for laptop users to help keep the laptop cool, but the fact that the piece that makes it most comfortable (especially when wearing shorts) doesn't stay on is a reason to have a some redesign work done on this... Who wants to spend 3/4 of their time constantly having to put it back on?...
