Amazing Speakers! Pricey, but well worth the money!

    • Written by from Port Colborne

I have had many speaker systems, but I do love these more than any others. Coming from an impressive set of JBL Creature III's, these surpass greatly. Love them!

Loud Speakers with lots of Bass

    • Written by from Surrey

    Pros:
    - Great Volume
    - Very Deep Bass (packs a punch)
    - Clear Highs
    - Satelite speakers (relatively compact)
    - Good build quality
    - Features a buit in DAC
    Cons:
    - Lacking Mid Range (Not enough detail)
    - No synchronized volume control with computer
    - Sound is not directed very well (sound goes everywhere)

These speakers are great for watching movies and playing games due to its amazing sub-woofer. Compared to speakers like the B&W MM-1, its missing the Mid Range and does not direct sound directly at you, rather, everywhere (has a very wide sound stage). "5.1 Virtual Surround" is not very effective but I didn't expect that with anything with any 2.1 speaker system. For $399 I think these speakers are great which may also be the reason why Bose hasn't changed them since 2006.

    Better than expected

    • Written by from lawrence

    Pro:
    - Finding out what the 25,000 songs I put into iTunes over the years sound like.

    - Realizing I like country music.

    - More than just a base (mid-range is nice, but I'm not an expert at all.)

    - Powerful computer speakers with rich sound.

    - Nice to hear the nuance sounds that usually get washed out.

(Make sure to place the speakers well to get the full pleasure. Its a powerful system with a great design.

    Con:
    - sys will not work unless wired to a computer
(no wifi, e.g. plug into airport will not work).

    - nothing like my etymotic in-ears which catch every instrument and just sound more lively.
(Sorry that can't be too helpful, maybe its the mid-tones. Im not knowledgeable on music tech, but for what its worth - to me, Bose has always felt like quality lemon on mediocre fish.

AMAZING SPEAKERS!!!! I WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE

    • Written by from San Antonio

These speakers are so good that I am taking the time to write a review.
They are amazing I would recommend to anyone, they have an amazing rich sound and have an amazing base. The only issue is the price but for the sound it gives I think its totally worth it!

    Well worth the money!

    • Written by from kelso

I am very happy with these speakers. There is magic here because all music types play well - rock rocks, classical is classic and folk brings the pie. The bass unit sits on the floor and the amount of sound down there is minimal but the effect at the computer is delightful from the hardest rock bass to the pulsating bass viols in a Mozart concerto. Another surprise is the depth and reach of the sound beyond the computer. The sound is the best at the computer but barely diminishes throughout the room, showing the full power pushing these speakers. The only caveat to my praise is that these are computer speakers but they are darn fine ones. One warning - follow the setup directions - turn off the iTunes equalizer! You can experiment later, but the equalizer can ruin the sound quality.

Best Sound I Ever Bought for My Desk

    • Written by from Beavercreek

The speakers and their little stands fit nicely on the corners of my desk and the sub-woofer sits on the floor at the back of my desk (the cord that runs topside to the speakers was too short to place the sub-woofer at the front edge of my desk). That "short" lead wire from the sub-woofer is the only "short" coming of the system. The sound is fantastic whether I'm listening to my iTunes radio or music stored on my computer or watching my Elgato TV feature of my MAC. When I watch a movie on my MAC'S Cinemate 27" screen and listen to my Bose sound I am just as happy as if I'm in my home theater room. This is a great Bose product and I highly recommend for the person who wants great sound out of little space. Unfortunately Bose uses a USB Connection which severly limits the kind of devices and places one can use the system. It would also work great with the 32" Flat screen I use in the bedroom (which has awful sound) IF the Bose had an optical connection (since my MAC has optical output just as all my flat screen TVs do). If the Bose had an optical connection I would gladly pay $399 to purchase for all five bedrooms that have 32" & 37" TVs with awful sound, BUT I WILL NOT pay $1,500 for Bose's "wave" sound bar. That is lost business for Bose in my opinion. The USB connection for all those desktops and laptops that don't have optical outputs is great, but why not do both and keep the sound as true and clear and digital as possible for those who have optical connection? But the bottom line here remains that this Bose is a great system for sound and clarity and range.

certainly not fair to compare with hi quality floor standing speakers with good amplifier

    Great Computer Speakers

    • Written by from Rumford

I bought these speakers well over a year ago and get this, had them hooked up to my sony flat screen T.V. I was still saving for a real surround sound system because everyone knows the speakers on a flat screen are terrible . So, I hooked them up and I couldn't belive the sound that came from them, Amazing. Well time went on and I just recently bought an iMac and hooked these speakers up to it. The sound quality is incredible. All I had to do was go through utilities and I was all set. If you look through the owners manual on these speakers, they even list hooking these up to an iMac, directions included. I have know idea what other people are talking about when they are downgrading these speakers, personally, you really have to hear them. But remember that they are still computer speakers, not an extreme home audio system. Believe me when I tell you, these little speakers do the job just fine. Well worth the money.

awesome but no surround sound (5.1) for iTunes Purchasing movies.

    • Written by from Grenoble

Awesome speakers. 5.1 surround sounds works well with dvd movies but disappointed about the fact that it won't be recognised as a 5.1 home theatre by iTunes. So you won't be able to use the 5.1 surround sound.

It's kinda painful to spend that money on these but after few hours of entertainment you won't regret it at all.
You will discover your entire library.

Buy them, but not for "surround sound"

    • Written by from Montreal

This is a wonderful sound system for sitting at your desk and listening to music. The sound quality is amazing, there is *no* distortion and they have some real fidelity.

The construction is excellent, the design is well-done and the materials are certainly not skimped out on. These feel like a sound system I will own for a decade. The desk controls are very good; a remote would have been nice, though.

That being said, don't get these if you're looking for surround sound. This is an amazing sound system with great audio, but it's not a surround sound system. I got them just because I wanted good speakers and I was very satisfied.

    BC5 is a good spend

    • Written by from New Albany

I have owned my BC5 for nearly 3 years trouble free. It is a near field unit designed to perform within range of one's arm's length. I think the adoring public forgets this fact. The BC5 can over perform and light up the room, but close or near field sonics is its specialty. Fortunately we live in an age of gadgets. High Resolution Technologies offers the HRT iStreamer. It allows one to connect the ipod, iphone, or ipad directly into the BC5. The Digital Signal Processor submitted by Bose is usurped by the Streamer which has its own sound card or DSP. The sound is more in your face. Bass response booms and the whole unit performs far better. I touched the rear of the bass module its warmer to the touch. Minus the istreamer the BC5 has met my ear expectations for ambience during school study nights. I recommend the BC5 because it musically works.

    Buy these speakers!

    • Written by from KELOWNA

Before I bought these speakers, I read the reviews and was having a hard time deciding on whether I should buy them or not, there was a lot of different reviews. Well I bought them and I do not regret it. I am very picky when it comes to the sound of my music and these Bose rock really well. I adjusted the itunes equalizer, even after they suggested not to, and I love the sound. Very good quality and great bass. I mean they aren't pushing a thousand watts per speaker, but they are only computer speakers and great ones at that.
