Age of Empires III
promising, but below expectations in current form.
Written by DW from viewbank

I purchased this game with the expectation of playing against a I.B.M Friend, but this game is not capable of such a common scenario.
Secondarily when playing the multiplayer against other Mac's I found that after around an Hour the game frequently drops out. Stating an "Out of Sync" error.
These deficiencies were found within hours of playing and appear very consistently. I am very dissapointed.127 of 235 people found this useful

Good Addition
Written by CN from North Hollywood

If you are a lifelong fan of AOE, this is definetly a good buy. It's simple to grasp if you are familier with the past versions, the graphics are a step forward, and the gameplay is very similar as well. It's great that it is now made for macs too.
Easy 5 stars!
Good job!834 of 1158 people found this useful

AWESOME!!!!!

Five stars all around. I've been waiting for this since it was first announced three months ago and was well pleased when it came yeterday. My only complaint is that it won't work on an older eMac (32 vs 64 MB Graphics), so I can't play over the network. Great product, shows a large improvement over AOE2 in graphics and performance. FIVE STARS!!!!!

EXCELLENT AS EXPECTED!!!!

Luckily I got this game for Christmas and it is by far the best game I have ever played on a computer. The graphics are incredible. I have a 12" PowerBook G4, 1.5GHz, GeForce FX Go5200 w/ 64MB VRAM, 80GB, 512MB SDRAM. This game is well worth the money, especially if you are a history buff like me.

great game

this is a wonderful game. the graphics are awesome, but you really need the high end processors to get the screenshot quality graphics. plus i found that many screenshots online are of the home city menu screen, which are technically "in game" screenshots, but not places where the action takes place.
still, if you like this style of game. this is probably the most interesting one that i have played.46 of 60 people found this useful

Met expectations
Written by JG from Yakima

These are my initial observations after owning and playing the game for less than an hour. The graphics are beyond comparison to its former (Age of Empires II), particularly the water and detail of landscapes. Runs very smooth with a MacBook Pro (2Ghz, 512MB, 128 MB graphics); couldn't tell you with other models. The interface is an upgrade, and may take some getting use to; in addition to the Home City. Same 'ol concept as I and II; hope the WarChiefs package becomes available to Mac OS systems. I don't expect to become bored with it anytime soon, seems how I've been playing AoE II, until I purchased III. Started playing the minute I received it in the mail; just hope it doesn't ruin my good study habits.

works fine on macbooks
Written by AC from paris

I have a macbook c2d 2.0 with 1 gb of ram and this game works fine...i have the shader off and it does not lag even with alot going on in the game. so anyone who is skeptical about the macbooks graphics, no worries. I would only suggest to have atleast 1 gb of ram.
the game itself has not changed very much from the past ones except for mostly gun powder units. after a few weeks or so you will get very bored...and you will need online play for it to stay exciting.60 of 87 people found this useful

GREAT GAME, but needs at least a gig of ram
Written by RJ from Coon Rapids
Feb 10, 2007
Running it on a PowerPC iMac G5 512RAM 1.8Ghz. Works almost fine - I would recommend having 1gig of RAM for this one - It gets a little choppy sometimes. This is a five star game all the way. It's worth the fifty bucks or so because it is an investment in hours upon hours of fun. The Home Base feature is a great addition.

simply economical... a category all of its own, a very first creation of its kind. I've never before seen flawless graphics, mountable horses, raging war gorillas, and cataclismic sized spectacles! it's truly a thriller that keeps u on the edge of ur computer chair the whole 9 yards and then some.. some say u need a gig of ram.. i disagree that 2gb couldnt be better. anyways buy this game and u'll be rip-roarin hootin and hollerin for starcraft 2!!

Age of Empires III
Best RTS EVER MADE
Written by NW from Arlington
Mar 17, 2007
I've played so many RTS's it's hard to recount them all. But they all had flaws. Age 2- some cheap units, not enough siege artillery, and grainy graphics. Starwars GalacticBattlegrounds- a game using the Age engine, but again, seroiusly lacking in graphics. Warcraft 3- Too hard for my puny mind, and I had to use cheats. AoM- whacked out AI coupled with seroius cheating. Empire Earth- Cheating AI. Rise of Nations- Too much micromanagement. But the only game I have played that lacks a seroius flaw is Age 3. A fun AI will make newcomers to strategy and old buffs alike love a good game. The home city gives a sense of unity and determination to all your skirmishes. The graphics are a little less amusing than the game sites parade- People torching a building doesn't make its roof fly off- but this is a great choice for an RTS, all in all.

Plays fine on my MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac G. Graphics rock on MBP. Immense replay value. Easy setting is easy and games are short (I can often beat the opponents while on my evening train home). It's fun to play.

A Masterpeice

This game is a great update to a classic franchise. It feels fresh and new but still retains the elements that mad previous games of the series so fun to play. The visuals are breathtaking, from individual leaves falling from the trees in New England, to the flash on muskets. It runs just fine on my 2.1Ghz imac G5 w/isight. If you are a fan of the series, or enjoy RTS games in general do not pass this game up!
