Age of Empires III
Guess I am in the minority viewpoint...

I really liked the first 2 AOE but do not like this game at all. I think they changed too much. When C & C made the jump to 3D, their game changes seemed to go more along with the history of the game. I really dont like home city feature. I dont play often but when I do, I like the fact with AOE 2 I could just pic a society, this game seems to require to much "effort" (lack of better word) to develop a game if you are just looking to kill a bit of time. Graphics are great and I think it is a well built game that runs flawless on my intel imac, just too much of a departure from the game play of the other AOE.
This is all coming from a very seldom game player so take it for what its worth.46 of 85 people found this useful

Meh!

I bought this game expecting much more. What I now realize is that I could have saved my money. It looks just ok, but I am disappointed at how I can't zoom out more and that the graphics unit-wise are very poor. In addition, the campaigns are a snore fest compared to Age of Empires 2.
Go with something else, there are much better strategy games on the Mac than this.

I downloaded the new patch to fix the crashes and it did not make any difference.
I Bought also a PC version and run it on windows side of mac and still the same.

Not worth it
Written by BD from seattle

I bought this game based on the positive reviews here but after playing the game I'm convinced that the game creators posted many of these reviews in an attempt to market their product. In my opinion this game is on par with games that Blizzard was putting out 10 years ago. Warcraft 3 certainly is a more compelling strategy game than Age of Empires. I wouldn't waste your money on it. I was bored after the first few campaigns.

Age of Empires III
promising, but below expectations in current form.

I purchased this game with the expectation of playing against a I.B.M Friend, but this game is not capable of such a common scenario.
Secondarily when playing the multiplayer against other Mac's I found that after around an Hour the game frequently drops out. Stating an "Out of Sync" error.
These deficiencies were found within hours of playing and appear very consistently. I am very dissapointed.127 of 235 people found this useful

Doesn't feel like Age of Empires

I was extremely disappointed by this game. The new round maps make it feel like age of mythology (another game which I didn't love) and the gameplay doesn't feel like the previous AOE games.

it may be just me but I purchased this game today and I have installed it. When I am going for the 'learn the basics' option, it gives you some instructions. They talk about 'right and left mouse clicks' to select things.
I can't make my explorer move since I can't 'left mouse click' the position next to the flag! I have no idea how to make the little fellow move and I can't find any kind of help to see whether I need to change settings or something...19 of 97 people found this useful

A GREAT GAME!!! but...

I absolutely love this game, but it's not worth it for the price that it's being sold. They expect me to pay $60 for this game when you can get AOE 3, The Warchiefs (the first expansion pack), and The Asian Dynasties (the second expansion pack that's not even on the Mac yet) for that same price, $60, for Windows. Not to say anything against Mac's (I also have a PC), I have one myself and love it, this is just a total rip off.

Age of Empires III
Not what I expected
Written by DS from Drayton Valley
Nov 25, 2008
I bought this game online after seeing a friend playing it. I didn't watch long, but saw beautiful graphics, and what appeared to be a fantastic and deep game. I paid extra to get it super quick. Yes, the graphics are very very good, and the interface is smooth and easy to pick up.
I was expecting more...variety? Remember Starcraft? I didn't realize this game was entirely based on colonial warfare and weaponry. I figured "Ages" meant something other than upgrades to muskets. Yes there are different "civilizations" you can choose from, but they are all more or less the same. To win, you stomp around the map with a bunch of musketeers and a few cannon and cavalry for backup.
Perhaps I didn't read up enough on it before hand, and didn't play any of the previous games (except maybe one of the very earliest ones, years ago)
The point is, I think I was misled by the title AOE III. It should have been AOE III: Colonial Conquest or something along that line. If you look at a box titled AOE III: Asian Dynasties, you know what you're gonna get.62 of 106 people found this useful

Age of Empires III is not as Good As AOE II
Written by BM from New Westminster

Age of Empires III works very well on my MacBook so technically it does everything that it says that it will do. What it is not is it is not Age of Empires II or even AOE One (I). Those versions were more fun and more versatile.

After playing Age of EmpiresII for forever. Bought III. Love the graphics. I wish there was more of a II feel to it. Seems like the maps are miniscule. Kind of disappointed with the card aspect of it. Cards?

The game sometimes does not start up
Written by LY from Beaverton
Aug 17, 2009
Sometimes when I start the game, the application unexpectedly quits. I cannot find a solution to the problem, even though I have all the updates. But then there are times when the game does work without any changes applied. Sometimes the game works and sometimes it does not. The game usually gets through the opening credits and scenes okay, but once it starts the loading sequence, the game crashes. I have a 2009 17" Unibody MBP and I do not believe this should be happening. I blame Macsoft. If the game was made by Apple, everything would be smooth and seamless.

Amazing!
Written by AP from Sleepy Hollow

As a first time player of this game, I was definitely impressed by the 3D graphics and the overall game-play.
The campaign mode is fun, however I think it is too short. Also after playing for about a month, the game started to become boring after playing every map and opponent. If you enjoy this game I would also recommend the two expansion packs, although they are pricey, it provides hours more of interesting game-play.42 of 49 people found this useful

works fine on macbooks
Written by AC from paris
Feb 1, 2007
I have a macbook c2d 2.0 with 1 gb of ram and this game works fine...i have the shader off and it does not lag even with alot going on in the game. so anyone who is skeptical about the macbooks graphics, no worries. I would only suggest to have atleast 1 gb of ram.
the game itself has not changed very much from the past ones except for mostly gun powder units. after a few weeks or so you will get very bored...and you will need online play for it to stay exciting.60 of 87 people found this useful
